Thought you might like to see a picture of my new kitten. I lost the last of my DCats last August and we were going to wait until we moved next year to get another. My friend’s DCat had a lockdown litter due to the vets’ not offering routine services like spaying for so long and this little darling was the last one left. She has been in a house with dogs so hoping my DDogs will accept her and vice versa, always had a good experience with introducing kittens before. She arrives on Sunday 😊

It’s lovely to have something happy and exciting to share, and so pleased for those who have had hugs and meals out.

@Evenstar what a beautiful kitten. Two friends have had puppies during lockdown, both cocker spaniels. I met one on Sunday and am now feeling very broody but our old boy would not cope with a boisterous puppy he is nearly 17 so we shall hang on until he is gone. Three dogs would be a bit mad although we have done it before. We have always had cats with dogs, never had a lick of trouble. It is amusing when friends bring dogs to visit who are used to cats fleeing so they can give chase. Ours just give them a look and stroll off with their tails in the air showing their bums, it confuses dogs no end Grin

Evenstar · 18/05/2021 22:46

@justasking111 when it stopped working for us was when we had a break from DDogs after we lost our nearly 14 year old Golden Retriever due to me working more , we had 3 DCats when we introduced an adult DDog 4 years later. Two of them had lived with dogs before but seemed to have forgotten and one had never lived with a DDog. We ended up with a stair gate and dogs downstairs and cats up, I think if one animal is young it usually works well.

I have 3 dogs and it is a bit chaotic once you have more than 2, a bit like children really from my experience as you are outnumbered.

BogRollBOGOF · 18/05/2021 23:04

I'm outnumbered enough with 2 DCs. The Force is strong in them Grin
I like the idea of pets but CBA with the effort of cleaning as it is without adding more mammals to the mix. If DH was interested and would be hands on, that would be different but none of his family have ever had pets other than extended family and working farm dogs and it's beyond his comfort zone.

I've had a very nearly normal day! DH has been out in the office (technical issues rather than properly back, but it's helped me get my head in to gear for some deep cleaning which is much needes.

She's lovely!
Worldgonecrazy · 19/05/2021 07:17

Lots of stuff on Twitter about unvaccinated being blamed for everything for the next 6 months. As I’m not on MSM I’m not seeing it, other than that awful piece in the independent which was shared. Scary times, don’t fall for it.

ISaySteadyOn · 19/05/2021 09:48

You mean that if someone steps into the street and a dog bites them, it's my fault? Oh, ok. Yes, trying to avoid MSM as well.

DS starts his new school soon!

Just checking in. lovely to hear good news stories.
Won't be on here much I don't think as I've gone very hardcore now with the latest round of 'scariant, it's all the fault of crazed conspiracy theorist anti vaxxers' nonsense. So it's best I vent my spleen elsewhere rather than endangering our lovely AD threads!

You can still do random tangents Wink

It's so hard to judge the quality of information and the tone of what's going on out there. I'm trying not to look too deep and just maintain a healthy cynicism about the mainstream media.

I hate all this ongoing uncertainty. I wasn't hyped about 17th May as much of the indoor stuff on offer is not appealling until masks are ditched. I don't have company in the day for things like cafes, but eating in at the weekends should be better.

It's looking like parkrun is struggling to get enough landowner permission to restart on 5th June. The NT is a big hinderence as they're the biggest single landowner. I love our juniors being back. It's the most normal and natural point of my week.

BogRoll, I was so sad about Park run. It's one of the many madnesses about all this that drives me nuts: that when we've known all along that fitness and Vitamin D have a massive positive effect re so many illnesses and of course the deadly Covid, that exercising has been made even harder, everyday 'exercise' like walking to a bus stop or popping out of the office for lunch has been minimised and that people have been vilified for being out in the sun. Such a short sighted approach to public health.
Ho hum. 3 meals out this week - supporting the poor old hospitality industry at the cost of my waistline!

Parkrun has been the most inclusive health initiative in the past decade or so (I know it's older than that, but I'm meaning its more recent growth).

I did my first run in 2015 and was about 30 mins and trickling in at the end, and back when the tail runner had a decent jog. A few years later and that's the main pack finishing time and people walk it gently in about an hour. It's such a lovely community thing. My most local one is missing its first and second birthdays, and it goes past an old people's home where there'd often be a carer and a couple of residents marshalling. Isn't that an amazing way to remain engaged with the wider community!

I was hoping to do my 50 by my 39th but got delayed by a stormy winter and more cancellations than usual, so I set the target for Easter 2020...

MercyBooth · 19/05/2021 23:36

Look at this. Dated the DAY BEFORE they "cancelled" Christmas.

www.hsj.co.uk/patient-safety/covid-infections-caught-in-hospital-rise-by-a-third-in-one-week/7029211.article

It makes what Chris Hopson was saying in the run up to Christmas really beyond the pale How DARE he and others guilt trip the public in the run up to/over the subject of Christmas and beyond HOW FUCKING DARE THEY

LivinLaVidaLoki · 20/05/2021 06:41

@MercyBooth I saw something like that at the time. Made me sick.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 20/05/2021 06:50

I'm currently engaged in a Facebook spat with some arsehole. Someone on a local chat group is off to Greece in July and has asked for ideas for a few things to do.

So I suggested a few things and the most cost effective way to do them and wished them a happy journey. Some arsehole posts "you can't travel to Amber list countries, for anything other than essential travel"

So I posted that the travel ban has lifted and you can now travel for leisure. You just have more restrictions on your return from an amber country. "The PM has said "people shouldn't" not people "can't". It's the press constantly conflating guidance with law again. Legally you can go.Their response....

"You're wrong. Watch the news"

"From the BBC:

"The government's traffic light system is guidance rather than a legal requirement, and some travel companies have opted to still offer holidays to amber destinations so long as the Foreign Office has not advised against all but essential travel there.

The UK's largest tour operator, Tui, is currently offering holidays to amber countries such as Cuba, Barbados and Antigua and to some Greek and Spanish islands

Flying to an amber list country for a holiday isn't illegal - but it remains frowned upon"

I shared the above. But I wish this government would stop with all this "you can do this legally now, but dont"

Either something is allowed or its not.

BogRollBOGOF · 20/05/2021 07:09

We have our bookings and as it's by ferry it's pretty low risk. We're not mixing destinations. We'll mainly be in our cabin (which I prefer anyway... trying to manage the DCs in a communal lounge for 4 hours halfway through 12 hours of travel is of immeasurable joy....)

The big thing putting me off air travel is masks. Trying to navigate around an airport is not relaxing anyway, and while I'm generally fine with flying there's a lot of sensory input. I really doubt that the usual European destinations are going to be problematic.

If it's true that airports are mixing red with amber/ green destinations to the point of close contact, that needs adressing, like the issues had been with hospitals over the winter.

I hate this constant scapegoating narrative.

It's to keep you on the back foot. More psychological warfare. I never had much trust in the psychological professions due to my mother dismissing all my feelings as projections but even the tiny bit that was there is lost.
BIoodyStupidJohnson · 20/05/2021 11:49

Hello all. I had to find you again on the lovely new thread! Evenstar your new kitten is absolutely beautiful.

Well the house move went alright in the end. Nicola didn’t stop us at the border or anything.

It’s ok here, roolz-wise. I’ve eaten inside in restaurants more over the last four days than in the entirety of 2020 and the first three months of 2021. There’s a bit of discreet encouraging to get people to check in to test’n’trace by QR code but I just pretended to do it and nobody batted an eyelid. Ditto spaced-out tables, but not too much Perspex divider nonsense. Case numbers here continue to be very, very low.

Seriouslymole · 20/05/2021 13:08

Hi all - it's been ages since I've darkened your doorstep but felt the need for a bit of sanity. I see Lord Coe has been on about Parkrun and saying how crackers it is to not be allowing it as it's one of the best initiatives for public health. I'm a bit gutted as I'm nearly at the end of C25K with DS who is 12. I run a lot anyway and have been so pleased he's stuck with it. I was going to get him to do a Parkrun at the end of it as a big "wow, look what you can do" but note that the juniors are now only doing up to 10 and the others haven't started at all. Sigh.

We were supposed to be starting back with our choir tonight and now the committee have sent a very sad email saying it's been postponed again as the rules have changed...I could have cried, was so looking forward to that.

BogRollBOGOF · 20/05/2021 15:33

The juniors are temporarily 4-10 until the 5ks come back. It's not so much that it's a major cohort in itself, but many on the parkrun system do 5k instead and HQ was concerned that there would be a substantial move to the 2ks increasing the numbers and overwhelming some of the younger end of the cohort. There are a lot fewer jprs to disperse amongst. At the point that they initially hoped to get the jprs back in Jan, it was an easier "sell" as a children's activity and lower risk cohort..

It's frustrating as our jpr is going well.
I'm really missing something to focus on in my own running and my mojo has crawled off again.
I hope that the SD gets dropped in a month as that seems to be the main sticking point.

Worldgonecrazy · 20/05/2021 15:58

Mr Crazy wants to do a park run but is worried his competitive nature means he will try and beat the youngsters/ more experienced runners and hurt himself. Why can’t men just trot at their own pace instead of trying to beat everyone else? He does this when we run together too, if any male is faster he gets quite upset Grin
