Do you shower every single day?

Wondering whats actually normal. I shower every 2-3 days in the evenings.

OP posts:

I don't run much water, enough to cover my hand if I put it flat in the sink.

Splash face with water, face wash on - wet bar of soap, swipe under arms to lather a little - put face cloth in water, wring out - wipe face then under arms, rinse face cloth wring out and wipe genitals. Throw in washing machine when you leave the bathroom.

Admittedly due to previously mentioned time constraints and multi-tasking I do this whilst brushing my teeth and sitting on the toilet so I suppose any drips go down there... Sure, showers are better but you do what you have to do!

Tides me over until the evening and haven't managed to flood the bathroom yet, I'm not sure why people think you slosh around a sink full with a flailing sopping wet flannel 🤣

@AppropriateAdult

I’m amazed at all the people who are positive they would ‘feel dirty’ if they didn’t immerse themselves in water on a strict 24 hour schedule...
If you're used to showering every day, you'll probably notice that you're less than fresh if you skip a day. If you usually shower every second day, you won't feel that way because it's normal to you.

Some people won't smell on the second day, some will (especially if they don't do some kind of wash of the important bits). I don't think we're necessarily the best judge of our own scent though,as we become noseblind to it.

@LudoBear

I have got some weird skin condition that means my arms and legs itch like mad for up to 2 hours after showering. I've been to the doctors and they can't find a reason. My skin isn't dry and no visual signs. I've tried all sorts. It's worse if I shower in the mornings so I only shower in the evenings. I wear clean clothes every day. I'm single, live alone, don't work at the moment. I'm 100% sure i don't smell as I don't do any exercise, don't sweat unless its super hot in which case I'll shower more. I've asked my mum and she says I don't smell. She would tell me if I did.
Take a antihistamine before you shower.

I shower daily to help with my 5am alarm. I can’t function without it. I wash my hair every 2-3 days and wear a shower cap when not doing my hair.
I also like a long bath once or twice a week in the evening to chill out. I’ll do a hair mask and face mask at the same time.

bunburyscucumbersandwich · 04/05/2021 11:23

No cause it dries out my skin and makes my eczema sore.

Taikoo · 04/05/2021 12:30

Every morning, when I get up.
My hair is super greasy and has to be washed daily.
My bits also smell in the morning unfortunately, so I have to shower.

MatthewHBpig · 04/05/2021 12:35

@Jennyfromtheculdesac

In the absence of a shower or bath, how does one manage a decent wash without soaking the bathroom floor? I seem to soak my feet with just washing my face over the sink, never mind anything else!

I rarely do it, occasionally for the children.

Lay bath sheet across floor. bath mat on top? Unless you are washing an octopus 🐙?

Ladywinesalot · 04/05/2021 13:01

Everyday.
I’m a sweaty Betty and if I don’t I’m greasy and smelly.
It feels horrid and is bad manners.

I can understand those that have skin issues might not want to shower/bath everyday but otherwise don’t you smell? Doesn’t your arse need a wash after you poo?

Or maybe you just don’t get Care and enjoy your stench? K

What a goady post. Does it make you feel better?
EvilOnion · 04/05/2021 13:19

🤣 @Ladywinesalot the question was about showers specifically.

Most people are capable of washing without a shower and why would anyone with skin conditions smell less than anyone else because they can't shower as often? That makes no sense...

You might want to see your doctor if you need to need to wash every time you go to the toilet rather than wipe and if you're particularly greasy. I'm afraid that's not the norm for most people so hopefully they'll be able to investigate for you Smile

Ladywinesalot · 04/05/2021 13:25

@EvilOnion You ok Hun?

You seem to be having a real melt down there over the idea that people like to shower everyday and don’t want to walk around with a dirty arse.

And how would you know what most people do? Go around sniffing arses do you? Confused

Ladywinesalot · 04/05/2021 13:29

@LST Why goady?

Op asked of others showered everyday as op doesn’t.

Other posters claim to not washing/showering everyday.

Have you ever been around people and they smell badly because they don’t wash/shower/bath regularly?

The smell is bad and it makes me feel sick.
So infecting your bad hygiene on others is bad manners.

We are talking about not bathing everyday not not bathing for a week ffs. Your comment about enjoying your own stink was unnecessary

Sakura7 · 04/05/2021 13:41

Most people are capable of washing without a shower

Sure, but very few people would actively choose a sink wash over a shower.

OP was asking what's the norm, and that's a daily shower. That's shown to be the case from this thread and from various surveys done over the years.

Same as you. Generally every 3 days unless I've done something very sweaty. DCs have a bath twice a week with option of extra showers or a bath if they want to run one another night. I don't actually care what people consider normal, this is our normal.
Ladywinesalot · 04/05/2021 13:51

@LST
But maybe some people do enjoy their own stink Confused

I don’t get why someone would not wash themselves or their clothes and I force their vile hygiene on everyone else!
(Unless a poor mental health or other health reason)

But if you are just lazy and arrogant to not care about your stink then I can say I have a problem with it.

toomanyjobsin1day · 04/05/2021 13:57

Every day a shower or a bath!

Again, not having a shower everyday does not make you stink. It doesn't mean they have vile hygiene. What is wrong with you?

Frymetothemoon · 04/05/2021 14:02

Yep, every morning.
Grossed me out a bit recently when I found out my mother washes her hair more frequently than she showers (as an aside, could this be linked to possible onset of dementia?)

I wash my hair more frequently than I bathe (wash hair daily, bathe every other day).

Why does this 'gross you out'?

Nonmaquillee · 04/05/2021 14:06

Every morning and if it's hot, in the evening too. I feel awful if I haven't showered.

Frymetothemoon · 04/05/2021 14:09

@thevampireswife

It grosses me out because she only washes her hair every 3-4 days.

We also have concerns that she may be showing signs of dementia, hence my wondering whether this could be a sign

EvilOnion · 04/05/2021 14:12

@Ladywinesalot a meltdown? Really. Right-o "Hun" 🤣

Cherrycee · 04/05/2021 14:14

I wash my hair more frequently than I bathe (wash hair daily, bathe every other day).

Genuine question, why?

It seems like an extra effort to wash hair without washing your body. Doing it in the sink/over the bath is much more of a faff than just doing it in the shower.

I've seen a lot of people say they don't shower every day because they don't want to get their hair wet or frizzy, so it's interesting to see the opposite.

Cherrycee · 04/05/2021 14:17

@Frymetothemoon

Unfortunately it was a sign of dementia in my dad's case, he simply forgot about self care. He used to shower daily beforehand.

Is this normal for your mum or is it an obvious change?

@cherrycee

Thank you.

It's a change, not sure how sudden it's been. I was planning on giving her GP a heads up anyway so I'll add this to my points.
