Wondering whats actually normal. I shower every 2-3 days in the evenings.

I was a single mum with a newborn, a 3 year old, a 5 year old and a 6 year old. Still showered daily! I would feel dirty if i didn’t.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/05/2021 23:07

Yep. Can't function properly until I've had o e in the morning.

Happycat1212 · 03/05/2021 23:08

My oldest 2 were born a year apart and still managed, I just don’t get that as an excuse, literally takes 5 minutes when they nap or are in bed for the night.

Please stop. The pp has pointed out their struggles. If you don't understand them, that's fine, but continuing to berate them because they don't do things in the same way that you do, is unnecessary. They've already stated they feel overwhelmed, so your comments are probably not helping?

Someone asked how old my children were! I can respond, I’ve had two toddlers, I had a newborn and a one year old.

That's great. We know. You can stop now. You're reality is your reality. No one else's.

I shower after 2 or 3 days. Otherwise it's a soapy flannel on the underarms and other bits, rinse the flannel and rinse the bits, dry off.

CandyLeBonBon · 03/05/2021 23:36

@seriouslystressedoutmama I remember feeling like that too. I hope you're ok Thanks

Calyx72 · 03/05/2021 23:40

To add - I work with occupational therapists who say it's just as good to wash with a flannel rather than shower every day. I would be told by family or colleagues if I had bad hygiene as well.

miltonj · 03/05/2021 23:58

Yes of course. As do all my friends and family. Seems I've wrongly assumed that it's the norm judging by this thread!
I don't shower twice a day now but did when daughter was newborn as by the end of the day I'd be covered in milk and baby vom.

Water is a luxury in many places and many people needlessly showering twice a day and the fuel used to heat the water, still I suppose you’re doing your bit elsewhere to look after are plant

That's a little like telling children to finish their dinner because there are children going hungry elsewhere.

Very true. But I do look after my ‘plants’ as well Smile

@Happycat1212

Ok well medical conditions aside which goes without saying really🙄

I don’t get how being a single mum is a reason to not shower, loads of us are single mums it’s not an excuse to not clean yourself, I wouldn’t leave my house if I hadn’t showered.

ahh bless , god forbid the boiler conks out then , it would be a day or more until you could leave lol

Growing up in the 50s, most people bathed twice a week (very few showers around) and we weren't surrounded by smelly people. There are some real holier-than-thou people on this thread, aren't there?

there are indeed , im really struggling to understand how bathing every other day or every third day makes you stink unless you are in a tropical country or work in manual labour , im not even sure holier than thou is the correct term to be honest , neurotic perhaps lol
Sparklingbrook · 04/05/2021 07:24

'Neurotic' 'holier than thou' for showering as and when you want to? What a strange reaction, and quite defensive.

mathanxiety · 04/05/2021 07:24

It's very possible that people who wash less frequently than the norm get used to their own 'musk', @chaosrabbitland

Theoldwoman · 04/05/2021 07:25

Is this a trick question?

Of course I shower daily, as do my husband and children.

JPduck · 04/05/2021 07:36

Bath every night so I go to bed clean.

AuntieMarys · 04/05/2021 07:37

Yes. Twice a day in hot weather and after exercise.

Why would it be a trick question? Do you not realise other people are different than you?

People aren't those things for showering daily or twice a day, they're those things for judging (in quite cruel terms) others who don't.

Y'know, others who shower as and when they want to.

EvilOnion · 04/05/2021 08:10

These threads might as well be scripted, every month or so they come around with the same neurotic answers at either end of the spectrum...

Do what works for you, humans do have a natural scent, unless you're very sweaty/prone to b.o then skipping a day here and there isn't a big deal - lots of people are afraid of smelling of anything except man-made "nature smells".

But also having severe eczema I do need to Slough flaky skin off most days with a flannel so a shower with emollient (which I bloody hate!) is the easiest way.

A face, bits and pits wash every morning and shower every other day with a hair wash 2x a week is enough to keep me smelling/looking clean thankfully. If I want to have a shower/bath more often I do - life doesn't need to be so regimented!
