Wondering whats actually normal. I shower every 2-3 days in the evenings.

OP posts:

Y'know, others who shower as and when they want to

Well this sums it up doesn't it? Do what you like as with everything. The OP asked the question (but doesn't seem overly interested in all the answers Confused.

A face, bits and pits wash every morning and shower every other day with a hair wash 2x a week is enough to keep me smelling/looking clean thankfully.

This comes up on every one of these thread and never gets explained.

How is it easier, more pleasant, and crucially - more effective, to have a ‘face, bits and pits wash’...?

Why not just step into a quick hot shower??

Messing around naked at a sink, soaking and wringing out a miserable face cloth?

Just have a shower. There’s nothing ‘regimented’ about it. Confused

I am sure if I attempted that I would flood the bathroom, also not a fan of a flannel. I agree it's quicker to just shower.
EvilOnion · 04/05/2021 09:00

@SaturdayRocks because not everyone has a shower, sometimes the electricity meter is running low, sometimes the heating is on the blink and it's too fecking cold...

For me, I do it because I prefer to shower before bed and time in the bathroom is hectic in the mornings - my son is Autistic and has a very regimented routine (of his own doing) so it's into the bathroom, run warm tap, face wash on, brush teeth, pee, rinse face wash off, swipe soap bar under arms, rinse off with face cloth, wipe bits, quick pat dry and into my room to get dressed, deodorant, moisturiser on. Pjs and face cloth into laundry basket.

Whole thing takes 5 minutes because I have to multi task! Nothing miserable about a face cloth... We've a lovely stack that get used once and laundered Grin

EvilOnion · 04/05/2021 09:02

They're also excellent for exfoliating without using products or spending a fortune. Love a face cloth me 🤣

Sparklingbrook · 04/05/2021 09:03

I don't do flannels or dishcloths. I am pretty sure my parents do a sink wash they would think a daily shower was very decadent. I think that's due to being 80+ though, they have 3 showers in their house.
They also never use the dishwasher.

EvilOnion · 04/05/2021 09:06

I'm mid 30's so definitely not my age, I agree I'm in the minority but that doesn't phase me.

It's just my morning routine but I'm flexible with it - really not sure why it matters tbh. Washing is washing whether it's in the sink/bath or shower 🤷‍♀️

Sparklingbrook · 04/05/2021 09:12

My Dad was obsessed with the immersion heater growing up how long it had been on etc. I think old habits just stay with them.

There's often threads about sharing the bath water which we did when we were growing up but I vowed that as soon as I was an adult with my own bath I would never do it again. But there's lots of posters on here who think it fine.

EvilOnion · 04/05/2021 09:15

We definitely don't share bath water! That's just skin and stink broth to me 🤣

Oooh don't start everyone off! Grin You'll be saying you share bath towels next. Shock
thinkIamdone · 04/05/2021 09:18

2-3 days as my skin gets so dry and flaky despite body lotion. I do wash every day of course. In the summer when it's hot I shower daily as I feel sweaty. So basically I shower when I need it

EvilOnion · 04/05/2021 09:20

Hahahaha, We only use towels when we're clean so...

Ah, we all have our own different coloured towels. I'm not sharing with no teenager. Grin
EvilOnion · 04/05/2021 09:22

We have our own - classy beach towels (DS wanted watermelons so we all joined in) whether everyone actually sticks to their own is a different story I suppose.

cookiecreampie · 04/05/2021 09:23

Yes. Quick bath or shower in the morning ,a longer bath at night. All adult people should shower at least once a day.

RedcurrantPuff · 04/05/2021 09:23

Yes every day without fail

mermaidsariel · 04/05/2021 09:26

Yes of course. Sometimes twice. I would feel horrible if I didn’t.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 04/05/2021 09:29

I shower every other day otherwise I believe it's bad for the skin n hair to shower daily. Plus I can't be faffed.

DH showers daily as he 'needs to'. 🙄

Kids on the other had.... 12 yr old dd is very reluctant to shower 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Unless they can't, of course.

I have a skin conition and was told not to shower every day by my GP. I shower every other day but do wash my "neccessary" areas daily.

This definitely makes sense for people with skin issues, or anyone who likes that kind of routine really.

The important part is having some kind of wash (face, pits, bits at a minimum) in between showers.

I think to not wash at all for three days or more, as some posters seem to be suggesting, is quite unpleasant.

AppropriateAdult · 04/05/2021 10:39

I’m amazed at all the people who are positive they would ‘feel dirty’ if they didn’t immerse themselves in water on a strict 24 hour schedule...

blowinahoolie · 04/05/2021 10:43

[quote Tippexy]@blowinahoolie oh come on no need for the biscuit!

Jennyfromtheculdesac · 04/05/2021 10:48

In the absence of a shower or bath, how does one manage a decent wash without soaking the bathroom floor? I seem to soak my feet with just washing my face over the sink, never mind anything else!
