I Am So Middle aged.

DioneTheDiabolist · 16/04/2021 23:39

I'm menopausal.
I can't dance properly anymore. I now "mum dance".
I'm thinking of doing a dance class to rectify this.🤦‍♀️
I eat kefir yoghurt every day.
I've told off teenagers (that I dont know), twice, so far this week.😬
I still love my skinny jeans.😳
It's Friday night and I am drinking gin and posting on Mnet.Gin

There is no denying it, I am a total and utter middle aged woman. And it's alright.😎

I am so middle aged I have to get up to pee in the night. Sad

Same, more than once Sad

45 in a couple of weeks so properly middle aged, but like a PP said also feeling like I haven't properly grown up. My mind hasn't but my body aches and pains make me feel older!

But YY to the likes of gin, plants, cardigans, leggings, Joe Browns, flat Mary Jane shoes, "slow" TV, Talking Pictures and twee cat knick knacks Grin

Chemenger · 21/04/2021 09:51

I don't feel like a proper grown up most of the time. I'm always slightly surprised when people come to me for advice at work, it's hard to believe that they see me like I saw the senior staff when I was young!

This myth about 'heels' needs to be debunked.

DC and their friends see heels as middle-aged. Or on someone their age naff.

It's all trainers and chunky boots.

BuddhaAtSea · 21/04/2021 12:19

@AreyouthereGoditsme

I met a friend yesterday and sat in the sun on camping chairs in an empty carpark with a nice view for a picnic. We had blankets on our knees. I'm 40.
😂😂😂 love it. Totally something I’d do!
Teafirst · 21/04/2021 13:42

I'm 44 and happily embracing the onset of middle age.

Skinny jeans all the way
Love a cardigan
Comfy shoes - albeit Adidas gazelles or saltwaters. But my heels are resolutely unworn
Crocs for the garden
Love radio 2 but am putting Classic FM on more and more
Lockdown has brought out all my grey hair, including grey eyebrow hair sobbing
I run around insisting everyone wears sunscreen and hats, or gloves and hats, always have snacks and drinks with me.
I'm fussy about what coffee I drink and love an early morning cuppa on the back doorstep listening to the birds while everyone else sleeps
Wine = headache, even if only one glass. I'm fine on gin though
Big pants
Love getting all the washing dry on the line
I sprained my ankle last week stepping out of the back door

There's no hope. 😂

cricketmum84 · 25/04/2021 12:14

I had a new Tupperware delivered today. A lovely salad bowl with separate sections for dressing and wet ingredients so my salad doesn't wilt. I'm ridiculously excited by this!

I have to use a walking frame and now DH is back in the office from tomorrow I can't carry a plate through from the kitchen :) I'm so excited to prep my lunch now!

4cats2kids · 25/04/2021 15:08

I’ve got a bad back and am bathed and in my pyjamas by 7pm, even on weekends!

I totally don’t understand my teenager’s worldview.

SmellsLikeTeenageBoys · 26/04/2021 14:23

Not only do I regularly forget my age and have to work it out, the other day when I did that my mum pointed out that I’d got it wrong.

My kids were Hmm

I gained a year though, so yay Grin

Mercedes519 · 28/04/2021 11:15

Ha, coming back to this thread as yesterday I was a bit snippy with some young people loitering in our corner shop when I wanted to buy some milk.

I asked if they were finished and suggested they get a wriggle on. Unashamedly Grin They slunk out of the shop with their fizzy pop and sweets.

Dogatetheleftovers · 28/04/2021 13:10

My teenage DCs remarked about a nice bag that an “old lady” was carrying when we were out in the car. I looked over at said “old lady” to see that she was probably younger than me! 😟

Gingernaut · 28/04/2021 13:18

When buying clothes, I hate those roll up sleeves with a button and a strap sewn in - I carefully cut them out as, most of the time, the sleeves aren't even full length.

Same with pockets on shirts, jumpers and blouses - I carefully cut those off too, when I am able.

These little details look weird and are simply extra work when I'm ironing.

I hate ironing

Gingernaut · 28/04/2021 13:19

I am also looking forward to new clogs made for people with plantar fasciitis.

StrangeAddiction · 28/04/2021 13:30

Nooooooooo you're all liars!!!

Doing all those things (apart from drinking gin) does NOT make me (43) middle aged!

I'm so far down with the kids I can't even get back up! Ok, that might be down to my achy hips rather than being hip.

Oh my god I really am...middle aged

Gingernaut · 28/04/2021 13:42

Nah, fam!

Not even lyin'.

Gingernaut · 28/04/2021 17:28

Aldi are selling National Geographic branded LED magnifying lens for £4.99. Very good value. Blush

topcat2014 · 28/04/2021 18:27

@DioneTheDiabolist

Me too with the 'not on catchup' - you miss it you miss it!

The great thing is, because catch up is 'there' I no longer have to mess about with any video or dvd recorders - and also, I never need to watch stuff either..win win

Sammiesnake · 28/04/2021 18:38

Yes!!! Although I love a glass of Cava / Champagne over gin. I love flat shoes and enjoy comfortable kitten heels for work. Also enjoy gardening / home renovation shows. Can’t be bothered with any uncomfortable clothing any more. Very happy in my own skin being middle aged and avoiding the radio as can’t understand modern music at all (although love Radio 2 on a Sunday morning).

speakout · 28/04/2021 18:45

Nah, not buying into it.
Now into hard core yoga- feeling fitter than I did at 25.
My new business is exciting, I wake up with energy and enthusiasm

Age is a number.

AnSionnachGlic · 28/04/2021 18:58

I bought pair of " Hotter" slippers last month, and have been marvelling at the comfort. My teenage dds think its hilarious, as I call them my ' house shoes'!!Blush. I also love nothing more than getting up before everyone, have a cup of coffee on my own, listening to Lyric FM ( classical music station in Ireland), whilst sitting admiring my handiwork in my garden! I turned 50 last month so there is no hope for me now.......and I love itSmile

Mercedes519 · 29/04/2021 06:50

Morning peeps! Am up before everyone else with a cuppa and a book. Thinking about the terrible fact that I have to wear proper clothes today for a meeting. No heels though!!

Feet are cold though, wonder if I should get some slippers....

knackeredcat · 29/04/2021 09:17

I'm loving my fugly but oh so comfortable footbed mules - similar to Birkenstock Bostons but much cheaper Grin

Camphillgirl · 15/05/2021 10:58

I am middle aged

Buy newspapers not for content but for coffee time crossword and sudoku
Eat food esp jam that past it’s sell by date loudly exclaiming my nose will let me know if it’s “off”
Obsession with charity shop finds and Aldi prices vs Waitrose
Never get on floor as I can’t get up again
Tut loudly at Ford Fiesta or motorbike exhaust noise
Lap blankets everywhere
Bed by 10 (thinking longingly about it at 5)
Up at sparrow fart.

Yep i’ve reached my comfortable vs fashionable age hurrah bliss

I used to wear proper slippers and still do in winter with moutain warehouse ski socks - cheap, durable, thick, warm. Too thick for non- winter footwear unpess slippers/ sligs.
But i fell over a pr of semi ugly cork open sligs in Aldi a while back and cork really provides good cushioning and insulation. Added to to they they were only £8. Maybe they or Lidl diddle dumpling my son John will have then (again) later in summer
