I'm menopausal.
I can't dance properly anymore. I now "mum dance".
I'm thinking of doing a dance class to rectify this.🤦‍♀️
I eat kefir yoghurt every day.
I've told off teenagers (that I dont know), twice, so far this week.😬
I still love my skinny jeans.😳
It's Friday night and I am drinking gin and posting on Mnet.Gin

There is no denying it, I am a total and utter middle aged woman. And it's alright.😎

@LadyWithLapdog. And me.

topcat2014 · 17/04/2021 18:35

We are a truly middle aged house
DW and I have our own couches and blankets
I fall asleep watching Gardeners World
I don't drink because of having a bad night.
Very good at recycling.

Vanfanran · 17/04/2021 18:46

I'm 41 and embracing middle age, but hating the perimenopause.
I only ever wear skinny jeans with cardigans, started drinking gin on my 40th birthday and couldn't imagine life without my slow cooker. I get very excited about going to Home Bargains and make my own bread. I have to say I love my life
I know far too much about red wine

Hang on! Are skinny jeans middle aged??

Yeah, but it's a very very recent thing @UhtredRagnarson. YY to the craic in TGI's.Grin I remain committed to free range, organic methods of production.Wink

I'm a member of the RHS & National Trust
I always have a reusable bag with me
I never wear heels
I'm happily middle aged

I have found my people! It was my (42nd) birthday on Monday. I received:
A new pair of walking trainers
A gardening through the year book
A pair of Clark' s ankle boots (exactly the same as the pair I have been wearing for the last two years- which have been re-designated as gardening boots)
A big, flowy scarf
I should add, I requested all of these presents apart from the scarf! To top it off, got my text on Friday to tell me I could book my Covid jab, which was great but a tiny bit depressing at the same time to be in that age bracket.😂

WellTidy · 18/04/2021 07:19

I wear sketchers go run trainers pretty much all day every day now. Says it all, really.

Cheermonger · 18/04/2021 07:22

I love my pyjamas, slippers, comfy clothes, feeding the birds, gardening, my greenhouse, lone coastal walks, greatest hits radio, tidying the house, peace and dreaming about retiring.

I can’t do squats any more as my knees hurt and I say oooof when I sit down 🤣

Mercedes519 · 18/04/2021 07:37

Morning my people!

Just sat down with a cuppa, crochet and Countryfile while the house is quiet. Bliss....

LazyDaisy10 · 18/04/2021 08:05

I love gardening ,Baking, reading, blankets, gin.
I only wear skinny jeans, trainers, no heels at all.
I'm loving top of the pops on bbc4 Friday nights.
I'm in bed by 10.
I bought extra pegs for the washing line and was excited I would be able to get more washing out on a dry day.
I'm middle aged I!

Spinningaround21 · 18/04/2021 08:18

I’ve found my people!
I’m nearly 42, I’m an ageing indie kid all about music, festivals, gigs and going dancing in dingy clubs until 3am when I was in my youth.

I now enjoy gardening, decorating and food old walking, joggers and comfy shoes. To be fair I still love music but can’t go to go gigs right now. But I love going out for breakfast or lunch or eat earlier tea and being home earlier. I can’t keep awake late unless it’s cos of insomnia!

I can’t handle wine anymore either, which makes me sad as I really like a glass of wine!

I should add I’m content and happy. Confident in my own skin (well more so than before)

pickingdaisies · 18/04/2021 08:20

(Quick look round at all the cardis and sensible shoes, sound of R4 burbling gently in the background)
Yes, I'm definitely in the right place!
I was frankly getting worried that I might be easing out from middle to old age, but if the WHO say I'm middle aged, I won't argue.
I was incensed at gardeners world being bumped last week, and baffled at the MNers declaring we could just watch Netflix.
No!!! Friday night is Monty night! With a nice glass of pinot grigio, but just the one, otherwise I'd forget to cover up the sweet peas and be fit for nothing the next day.
Radio 2 is a bit shouty in the morning, so it's radio 4 until Ken comes on. Have started listening to - brace yourselves - Classic FM 😬
Have caught myself saying that today's music all sounds the same. And the classic, We used to have proper music when I was your age.
Grumble that actors mumble and there's too much sex on TV.
Swear much more than I used to!
Hate busy pubs, if I can't get a nice quiet table I won't stay.
My first thought on getting my first jab was Yippee!! My second was, I might stop off at the garden centre on the way home😁

Spinningaround21 · 18/04/2021 08:21

I also realised I was middle aged when I was excited about having new fencing fitted ( does block the neighbours more) but FFS fencing? Hmm I do love it tho!

Whenwillitmakesense · 18/04/2021 08:34

Hello!

Yes to almost everything

will also add...

Love getting plants in pots now rather than cut flowers (I can plant them out when I am bored or the flowers die back)

Going down stairs in the middle of the night and my knees are stiff is not a pretty sight

Have so many high heels but never wear them - if I do it’s for a 2 minute shuffle from the car to where I am going and I have flats in my handbag for the way home...

Naggymom · 18/04/2021 08:55

This thread is like a warm cosy blanket! Have really enjoyed scrolling through it. Middle age certainly has its advantages. Wish there were more threads like this...

ceilingsand · 18/04/2021 08:57

I'm a few years post menopausal.
I like gardening and painting.
I have two cats.
I went to a festival and couldn't sleep in a noisy uncomfortable tent- think not Bridget Jones. I went to bed before the big act.
I like walking much more than I ever did when I cared about ultra stylish footwear.

thegcatsmother · 18/04/2021 09:28

I have listened to Classic FM since it began.
I love being in my 50s. I have nothing to prove; am comfortable in my skin, and have no f*cks left to give.
I have a new job, which is tiring after 15 years not working, but hope to go part time in a year or so.
I wear flat boots in winter; fitflops and Gabor flats in summer.
My wardrobe is Seasalt, Joules, Lands End, old bits of Boden and some East. Jeans are M&S Sienna straight leg.

Yes, I'm grey, but unlike my Mum at my age, no perm, no frumpy pleated skirts etc.

OhWhyNot · 18/04/2021 10:25

I have started to wear trainers before I would only wear them at the gym as I just thought they were no flattering on me

Wow they are so comfortable to walk around in (converse are not)

I just don’t care as much and it’s so liberating

Not going out not a problem for me

OublietteBravo · 18/04/2021 10:31

I agree with much of this thread. But not the jeans. In the last year I’ve barely worn my skinny jeans at all (I have girlfriend jeans, slim boyfriend jeans and flares instead). But they’re the only style of jeans my 16 year old DD will wear (she’s currently coveting my M&S trousers - maybe she’s middle-aged). Actually not the cardigans either. I don’t really wear cardigans.

I’m 45 - and I’m perfectly happy being this age. I can afford nice wine (I spend more per bottle now that I drink less of it). I very rarely wear heels and when I do I require them to be firmly strapped to my feet. I love jigsaws. Hanging the washing out makes me happy.

dragoncena · 18/04/2021 10:32

I'm not even 40 but have been middle aged for at least 5 years now. My bones creak, I have a "bed fleece" and I knew it was definite when last week I went onto the Pavers website and was lusting after the comfortable looking shoes.
A good Friday night for me is settling into bed with my slipper socks on to watch Gardeners World. The dc often make fun of my TV history and joke that if anyone broke in they would assume I was a pensioner.

hrtlocker · 18/04/2021 10:47

I take inordinate pleasure in giving all categories of laundry the correct treatment and folding towels is my happy time.

I have a single whisker sprouting out of my neck that is completely colourless but the texture of piano wire. I do battle with it daily.

I take pride in my cat pilling technique.

OneKeyAtATime · 18/04/2021 11:06

The bed fleece made me smile. I have a spare fleece in every room of the house in case I get old. I am 35.

LazyDaisy10 · 18/04/2021 11:40

After reading this thread I've just ordered 3 cardigans from next.Grin

weekend2021 · 18/04/2021 12:09

Pulled a face of disgust when DD (25) told me her DP was going for a sunbed session (despite spending many an hour on them myself in years gone by)
Told same DD that she needs to buy ‘quality’clothes instead of Primark.
Bought some Girlfriend jeans in a bid to look ‘relevant’ - I look more like a builder but kept them as they are sooooo comfortable.
Spent 2 hours pressure cleaning patios while the weather is nice, instead of lying in the sun in my cossie.
I’m technically past middle age though unless I live to be 122.
