I Am So Middle aged.

DioneTheDiabolist · 16/04/2021 23:39

I'm menopausal.
I can't dance properly anymore. I now "mum dance".
I'm thinking of doing a dance class to rectify this.🤦‍♀️
I eat kefir yoghurt every day.
I've told off teenagers (that I dont know), twice, so far this week.😬
I still love my skinny jeans.😳
It's Friday night and I am drinking gin and posting on Mnet.Gin

There is no denying it, I am a total and utter middle aged woman. And it's alright.😎

Just bought new glasses - not the ones that suited me best, but ones that had plenty of space for my varifocal lenses

DioneTheDiabolist · 18/04/2021 13:05

Ooh, I got varifocals @pickingdaisies and can't be doing with them so I take my glasses off when reading or doing close work. I keep them on a string thing so I don't lose them.Blush

Yeah, but it's a very very recent thing @UhtredRagnarson. YY to the craic in TGI's.grin I remain committed to free range, organic methods of production.wink

Grin aye, me too!!

I hate to admit it @DioneTheDiabolist, but I have to take mine off a lot too, they are useless when I'm using the laptop. Must get a string thing, that also seems like a middle aged sort of thing to do Grin

cricketmum84 · 18/04/2021 19:58

I just spent 20 minutes searching for the glasses that were perched on top of my head.

RatintheCat · 18/04/2021 20:03

I BLOODY LOVE GARDENING!!!!!!!!

DH asked me if something was wrong as I've just spent 2 solid days gardening and talking about gardening when up until now I hated it. Peak middle age, this must be the only advantage of reaching a very early peri menopause!

Bluedeblue · 19/04/2021 10:37

I fancy Captain Birdseye. Blush

Chemenger · 19/04/2021 10:41

And most of my TV viewing now consists of cookery/baking/gardening/diy programs.

I think you forgot The Repair Shop in your list.

Chemenger · 19/04/2021 10:49

I love cardigans. I have the ultimate, super warm grey wool cardigan with a hood, that I wear to drink my morning (half-caf otherwise I won't sleep) coffee in the garden listening to the archers from the night before and doing the Guardian (quick) crossword. I have only worn sketchers or big fluffy slippers for the last year.
In my slight defence that cardigan is from Anthropologie so can't be completely beyond the pale? My 20 something DDs also approved of some new trainer type sketchers I've just bought.
Oh, and I like jigsaws.

Chemenger · 19/04/2021 10:49

@Bluedeblue

I fancy Captain Birdseye. Blush
Then you should definitely watch the film The Captain and Mrs Muir.
TechnoDino · 19/04/2021 11:04

I muttered something about maybe going back to yoga lessons... my teenage DS laughed and said “you’re SO middle aged, yoga, really?” then rolled his eyes, paused and delivered the killer line “you’ll be on mumsnet next” Grin

cervixuser · 19/04/2021 11:06

I would like to be middle-aged but I'm 63 and wonder if i still qualify

SantanaBinLorry · 19/04/2021 13:13

I've got knocking about cardigans and naice cardigans.
Gloves and sunnies to hand at all times, no-one likes it when Ive got cold hands and I cant see properly.
I have a blanket for the car.
Skinnies and leggins aaaall the way, until I can get a pair of jeans that sit on my hips again '90's stylee. I'm small (bodied) and skinny anything high waisted makes me look like weird.
Glasses chain - check.

And this...
"I frown at people in cars outside with loud music on. I have done this at 2am in the dark."
I'm always staring out of the window at people making NOISE the bastards.

lightlypoached · 20/04/2021 03:53

Love of gardening, tick, (taking photos of my favourite blooms, and visiting Wisley RHS)
Blankets (I even knit them), double check
Jigsaws, hell yes,
Cardigans , yes but only if cashmere
Creaking joints, and a bad hip, yes, and ouch. (Am writing this at 3.30 am because my hip woke me up)
Insomnia and 4am menopausal waking, grrrrr yes
Delight in drying washing outside and then folding neatly (after sniffing it) , oooh yessss
Sensible shoes, mostly
Scowling at people making noise, often
Telling young people off, when required
Yoga , natch
Not staying up too late, absolutely
Jeans , skinny flares
History documentaries (and Lucy Worsley especially) , smashing
Saggy neck and obsession with serums, yep
Houseplants, tons of them (and I talk to them)
Sex , sparingly and carefully in case I pull something or overdo it and end up walking like John Wayne
Tea, I have a drawer of different types and 2 teapots. And. A milk jug
Top of the pops repeats, and Trevor Nelson. . They don't make tunes like, they used to
Hankies, asked for, some for Christmas.
Chin and neck hair, yep but I need a ridiculously magnifying mirror to see the little buggers
Forgetting words. Saying 'You know, the thing', quite a lot.

You are my people. Grin, and we are all fabulous.

Poorlykitten · 20/04/2021 08:54

I was out shopping for the first time in ages at the weekend, I saw a jigsaw and thought ‘oh, that looks nice.’ I nearly bought it too. Is this the beginning?

Pigwig10 · 20/04/2021 09:29

Spending half the night throwing my quilt off as I’m too hot, then retrieving it and tucking it under my chin as I’m too cold ✔️. Wearing leggings as much as possible because they’re comfy ✔️. Scowling at the radio because the kids have changed the channel and now it’s something called ‘Grime’ or just thumpy ✔️. Getting excited when it’s a sunny, warm and breezy day as it’s excellent for drying washing on the line ✔️. Plus I went ‘out, out’ at the weekend for the 1st time since last year, wore a lovely bright dress and...flat Vans pumps 😱. In my defence I find I can no longer walk confidently in high heels and broke my wrist in the same restaurant I was at when my stiletto argued with the polished floor and lost the last time I was there!! I’m 50 so definitely middle aged 😂

TawnyPippit · 20/04/2021 09:34

@OneKeyAtATime

The bed fleece made me smile. I have a spare fleece in every room of the house in case I get old. I am 35.
This is one of my favourite typos!!
Spied · 20/04/2021 09:39

Saw some beautiful 'Springwatch' and 'Gardeners World' greeting cards in the supermarket yesterday. First thought was I must buy them and put them in frames.

DioneTheDiabolist · 20/04/2021 11:16

Today I discovered that the other mums at preschool thought I was DS2's granny.BlushBlushBlush

Honestly, noisy stupid cars are one of the things that get me curtain twitching!
MyGhastIsFlabbered · 20/04/2021 14:51

@Chemenger I love The Captain and Mrs Muir. Not from fancying the captain, I just think it's such a lovely film - the ending always gets me slightly!

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 20/04/2021 14:51

Sorry it's 'The Ghost and Mrs Muir'

Chemenger · 20/04/2021 15:37

So it is! As I typed it I knew it was wrong.

AnotherBoredOne · 20/04/2021 15:57

All of the above!

pickingdaisies · 20/04/2021 19:22

@cervixuser, a pp has kindly posted a report from the WHO which puts 60 something's into the middle aged bracket. Who are we to disagree? 😁
