I Am So Middle aged.

I'm menopausal.
I can't dance properly anymore. I now "mum dance".
I'm thinking of doing a dance class to rectify this.🤦‍♀️
I eat kefir yoghurt every day.
I've told off teenagers (that I dont know), twice, so far this week.😬
I still love my skinny jeans.😳
It's Friday night and I am drinking gin and posting on Mnet.Gin

There is no denying it, I am a total and utter middle aged woman. And it's alright.😎

I have embraced my love of purple Grin

I'm middle aged. I used to catch up on celebrity gossip with the magazines at the hair salon. Now they no longer have them I don't know who any of them are.

I've hurt my shoulder and neck putting out laundry. I used to dance for hours in heels and not put anything out.

I like an early night with a book (still always loved it).

A late night or a bad night's sleep leaves me feeling worse than a hangover.

I look at things thinking "ooh that looks comfy".

However, I'm still much younger and cooler than my DM was at my age. I'm 55 (how the hell did that happen?).

Beachcomber · 17/04/2021 08:06

Does anyone feel like a sort of middle aged 23 year old?

I'm perimenopausal (47) and very happy with how middle aged and quietly boring I seem to have become. However I still don't quite feel like a "proper" grown up.

I like getting up early on a Sunday morning and watching alan titchmarsh . He is nice and calm and soothing.

Mercedes519 · 17/04/2021 08:07

@Frownette I’m impressed you even put on the high heels. I think I still have some at the back of the cupboard but genuinely cannot remember when I last wore them!

And yes to telling teenagers off. My DC are a bit older but I did that more than once in the playground. Like a PP they did grumble but the joy of middle age is that you sound like their mum so it works.

And I love a bit of Countryfile. Live in the middle of a city. And yes I do go out and pick up litter. I have a special litter picker and everything...

I read the title to the tune of Tim Minchin’s - “so rock”

  1. I have designated gardening crocs and my bras are full support rather than underwire plunge. I love being this age! I relish in my comfort and wince at the people who may look great, but must be so so uncomfortable!
Cam2020 · 17/04/2021 08:10

I'm feeling middle aged and bloody loving it. Skinny jeans, gin, gardening, flat shoes becasue my feet have finally rebelled against years of punishment, enjoying coastal walks - its all great.

BramStoker · 17/04/2021 08:11

I've started appreciating the local landscape and countryside far more than I did in my youth. I get a real buzz from discovering local footpaths that I was previously unaware of and scrutinising the OS map to link up the footpaths to create a walk.

Yes I have most definitely become middle aged (I'm 46) Grin

purplebagladylovesgin · 17/04/2021 08:13

I too told teenagers off for littering in a National trust beauty spot near a bin!

I felt the rage rising as they dumped their Mac Donald's take away cartons under the car they were eating in and made to drive off. Bad enough they were eating it but to dump it was the end of my patience.

Knocking on the window and telling them it was unacceptable did result in denial, but two sheepish teenagers got out of the car and collected the rubbish.

I did feel very middle aged.

I also wear ultra comfy flat fur lined boots and thought I'd try to look younger by wearing my heeled boots the other day. I got as far as the porch and changed back. I can't be doing this looking good but hurting anymore. Comfy comfy comfy all the way including knickers.

I drink gin and I'm loving the HRT.

Maybe I'm actually old rather than middle aged? Shock

Arrowheart · 17/04/2021 08:13

I love slippers

I'm obsessed with succulents

Think a night in with a good crime drama and a gin and tonic is hedonistic

Wear long flowing dresses instead of jeans

Love blankets, especially ones I've crocheted myself

121hugsneeded · 17/04/2021 08:14

Ha! I have to dust my high heels that are neatly on shelves with their matching handbags. As I mostly wear boots now and use a small backpack instead of my mulberry's or prada bags. I've morphed into someone who feels confident and comfortable in myself without the trappings I thought were essential to 'fit into my place' . It's a good place to be . I'm happy here.

Iamanunsafebuilding · 17/04/2021 08:14

I hear you, am definitely middle-aged. We're overhauling our garden having never gardened before but are inspired by the Rich brothers on Garden Rescue! I'm also seriously considering finding more comfortable (not underwired) bras, I'm quite large of nork (38E) and underwired bras just annoy me now... I was quite late to the skinny jeans party so I'm not ready to leave yet!

Poorlykitten · 17/04/2021 08:17

I have started to turn the radio off as ‘I don’t understand new music’. I get excited if it’s a sunny day because there’s more opportunity to garden.

Echobelly · 17/04/2021 08:17

I got quite excited by the new dishrack my husband bought this week Grin

I'd probably still be buying boot-cut trousers if you could get them anywhere

I buy lots of stuff at Boden and Joe Browns

Ostryga · 17/04/2021 08:19

I realised I was a proper grown up when I told some 16/17 years olds off for messing about with lifts and they actually looked sheepish, as if they’d been told off by an adult Shock In my head I’m still 18.

If I have a heavy night now it take about 3 days to recover. I used to go raving in fields, no sleep and go to work the next day!

abouttogoon · 17/04/2021 08:21

Sorting out the hair ion my chin has become a daily battle rather than just finding the occasional one or two 😱

AlTempleton · 17/04/2021 08:22

In the past two weeks I have bought a bread maker, a food processor and a soup maker. All our meals for two weeks have consisted of things that are blended, grated or chopped.

My husband commented that it was like eating baby food and joked when were we going to wean ourselves onto solids, which of course made my menopausal rage flare up. But menopausal rage aside, I honestly can't remember when I was last this content. I've spent hours and hours in the kitchen making soups and rearranging cupboards and listening to audio books.

UhtredRagnarson · 17/04/2021 08:23

I have started to turn the radio off as ‘I don’t understand new music’.

The first time I did this I was 21! Grin I’ve been middle aged forever

Iamthewombat · 17/04/2021 08:24

I'm obsessed with succulents

I’ve never heard this statement before and I salute you for admitting it.

Anyway OP my view is that you must rage, RAGE against the dying of the light in relation to the ‘mum dancing’. Get the dance lessons, do whatever you need to do, but don’t slide into the step together choo choo train rut.

jackstini · 17/04/2021 08:24

Made a quiche yesterday
All my jeans are skinny
Get excited when the weather looks good for our weekly walk
More excited when I find a nice cardigan
Am 48 - have found my people Grin

PoppityBoo · 17/04/2021 08:25

I’ve started buying non wired bras, and two weeks ago bought a pair of gardening clogs from Aldi. Also, instead of an Easter egg this year my mum bought me a ‘nice pot for the garden’. It’s all downhill from here.

Nocaloriesinchocolate · 17/04/2021 08:27

I was really depressed yesterday. I was paying for the car park, juggling hard back book, handbag, shopping bag and phone and dropped the ticket. A much younger woman came past and asked if I was ok to pick it up myself. It was really kind of her and I thanked her but wondered afterwards if it was because I looked old! It was particularly saddening (this is sort of light heartedA) because I’d just had my hair done after months and all the grey was covered up again so I felt ten years younger!

Fallsballs · 17/04/2021 08:27

I invested in a 5 pack of incredibly large pants from M&S that are bigger than one of DD’s crop tops. I wear crocs and spent all yesterday gardening in a tracksuit.
I like going to bed early and only have one drink as “it doesn’t agree with me” too.
I have never looked at Tik tok, hate Facebook and can’t say memes correctly.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 17/04/2021 08:30

Oh l love this thread!
44 and occurred to me the other day l haven't worn heels for months if not years.
My new passion is gardening .
Bought some sports wear the other day because it is comfy- not done any exercise in it yet.
And recently discovered Desert island Discs.
Plus l lose my shit if anyone leaves the door open if the fire is on because it causes a draught .
Too far gone to care now!!
