I Am So Middle aged.

DioneTheDiabolist · 16/04/2021 23:39

I'm menopausal.
I can't dance properly anymore. I now "mum dance".
I'm thinking of doing a dance class to rectify this.🤦‍♀️
I eat kefir yoghurt every day.
I've told off teenagers (that I dont know), twice, so far this week.😬
I still love my skinny jeans.😳
It's Friday night and I am drinking gin and posting on Mnet.Gin

There is no denying it, I am a total and utter middle aged woman. And it's alright.😎

@DinosaurDiana

Skinny jeans are the best, my legs don’t wobble when I wear them !!! I don’t like gin so it’s Prosecco for me. And I didn’t tell any teenagers off today, just had a row with my selfish ignorant neighbour instead 🤣
I think your’re my secret twin sister Grin

Had two proseccos at after work drinks yesterday and felt extremely tipsy Blush

I was tidying back of wardrobe and found very high heels. I took them down to go into shoe dump at supermarket when my DS saw them. He could not stop laughing and asked which museum I had raided. Nowadays I like to potter in the garden. I sit and listen to the birds whilst I drink a glass of coffee in morning or wine in afternoon. I have definitely slowed down. I think lockdown has slowed me down now I don't want to speed up again.

@UhtredRagnarson

Hang on! Are skinny jeans middle aged??
I was just thinking the same! Blush

That’s why I can’t 💃 I thought I was just shit.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 17/04/2021 12:18

i like gardens, and flowers and washing on the line and scented bin liners! whatever next.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 17/04/2021 12:19

oh i love hearing the birds, i like to walk my dog early and hear the dawn chorus, well, a little later than dawn now!

AbsolutelyPatsy · 17/04/2021 12:19

there were some teenagers loitering near our work and we were all too scared to tell them off Grin

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 17/04/2021 12:30

I have binned all underwired bras and now shop only for "comfort bras". What a revelation they are!
I have transformed my daughter's old bedroom into my "library" and I love it in there. I can do crafts, read, meditate in there and it's brilliant.

However, I fell over in the kitchen the other day! No real reason that I can pinpoint but DH heard the crash, came in, asked "did you just fall over?" I'm turning into a doddery old lady I think. I'm 55 Grin

danadas · 17/04/2021 12:39

Although not quite there yet, I came to the realisation that I am rapidly approaching middle age when:

  • My period was late and I immediately assumed the beginning of menopause rather than pregnancy.
  • My eldest reached 18
  • My idea of a relaxing afternoon is watching Midsomer Murders.
  • I haven't yet taken advantage of any of the relaxing of restrictions
  • I now take 7 tablets a day having only 18 months ago not needed a single one.

I am gradually accepting all this 😁

SinisterBumFacedCat · 17/04/2021 12:40

I am peri menopausal, have an a achey hip, have to wear a pad if I go running, do physio and running (I never would in my healthy days) am sandwich generation caring for DC and mum with dementia, I have given up on denim for leggings, can’t wear synthetics as they make me itch, am on a gluten fucking free diet, am allergic to EVERYTHING, like plants, gardening, miss actual shopping, have secret fantasies about celebrities who would not look at me now and I FUCKING LOVE GIN.

KateF · 17/04/2021 13:01

I think I've always been middle aged so at 51 my age has finally caught up with the rest of me! I love my slippers and cardigans, like to read, garden, bake, knit and listen to Radio 4. I tried going on Instagram but didn't get it.
The teenager I work with calls me mum because I grumble about hanging up her coat and putting her shoes away, encourage her to eat vegetables and bought her wellies for her birthday because she constantly had wet feet (our nursery is on a farm)! My own dds call me 'the good dinosaur'.
I was very bclose to my grandparents and live pretty much like them, i.e.old fashioned.

ShitzandGiggles · 17/04/2021 13:18

DP and I love coach holidays. They are the most fun ever, we don’t have to drive, we meet interesting people, we can drink in the daytime and the coach drivers are great and really knowledgeable. We can’t wait for the catalogue to arrive and we can plan the next one.

The kids look at me strangely with pity in their eyes when I tell them about our next trip.

IEat · 17/04/2021 13:18

@DioneTheDiabolist

I like watching TV as it's being screened. I'm not a fan of Catch-Up telly. Adverts are god's way of telling me there's dishes or laundry to be done.
Me too. It feels weird to watch catch up when there’s tv shows being screened that I want to watch too
BooksOnTheShelf · 17/04/2021 13:27

[quote Impatientwino]@DioneTheDiabolist swearing like a bunch of mumsnetters sailors in the park. Think showing off type loud swearing every other word for no reason. Fuck man, I'm going so fucking fast on this swing and after this I'm going to the fucking shop to get a fucking drink cos I'm fucking thirsty! Loads of little and primary kids around including mine as school just kicked out.

There's a giant field behind the park so told them that if they want to swear that was fine but go sit in the field away from small ears but if they want to play in the park then just be a bit respectful of the environment they're in and who is around them. They grumbled a bit but did quieten down and get on with their game.

As they left a bit later one of them turned and waved at me and shouted 'Bye Karen' in the most sarcastic voice.

It was incredibly difficult not to laugh but I did my best unimpressed scowl on behalf of us middle aged folk everywhere Grin

Oh how teenagers have changed! I remember being on the train when my son was about 2 with some teenagers doing similar. I was only 26 myself and very alternative looking at the time.

I was just debating with myself whether to say anything when one of the lads spotted my son, looked at me and turned to the others and said, "Watch it, there's a little kid there," at which point, they all looked round, apologised and stopped. I just smiled and thanked them.

No idea if it was because I looked like I would otherwise curse their families or they were just decent kids Grin

EscapeDragon · 17/04/2021 13:44

I have taken up stamp collecting.

My menopausal rage is catching. Today my DH had a monumental rage at a woman who tipped a great bag full of stale bread over a bridge and onto a river bank. He informed her that she was fly-tipping and the bread would be eaten by rats. After this telling-off, apparently she looked very sheepish and DH said "She's not going to do that again."!

Having just cleared out the magazine rack I now have a pile of gardening magazines and copies of Woman's Weekly to get rid of. Although I might go through the WWs first and cut out a few recipes.

At the moment I am drinking tea and contemplating which of my many cardigans to put on.

hennybeans · 17/04/2021 13:50

I feel really happy being middle aged.

All my shoes are bought for comfort ( except Dr Martens which take a while to get there).
I wear nothing but knee length or longer dresses, haven't worn jeans since they were bootcut as skinny don't suit me.
I love nothing more than spending an evening listening to a crime podcast whilst working on my cross stitch or knitting.
One of the things I am most looking forward to this year is the WI jam group starting up again ( I'm not so keen on the actually monthly meetings).
I really appreciate a quiet house and window with a good view to look out.
I feel more comfortable and like myself now at this age ( 41) than I ever have.

user1494055864 · 17/04/2021 13:51

@Crispina

Today I hung a yankee candle air freshener from my car rear view mirror and started a thread on mumsnet about jam.
And this is how mumsnet classics threads are born GrinGrinGrin
peak2021 · 17/04/2021 13:53

OP glad you feel the urge to celebrate this! Even more so that you still wear jeans and not hideous leggings (well all leggings are hideous).

Deathraystare · 17/04/2021 14:07

Work men types are even worse. The number of times they would start swearing as I walked by. Not searing at me but conversations like the above poster mentioned. Perhaps the teens are trainee work men'.
"Yeah I went to f-ing Tescos and got a f-ing pork pie. I f-ing love pork pies. F-ing got two, didn't I?"

I swear like a sailor myself so would hardly be impressed at them!!!!

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 17/04/2021 14:15

Embrace the middle age. Just don’t be tempted to try things you did as a teen - it won’t end well;

Tried ice skating. Was only on 10 mins, fell over, went flying. Damaged muscles round shoulder and had to go to a&e as it hurt so much I thought I’d dislocated it.

Tried trampolining. Apparently you can get whiplash if your core isn't very strong. My chiropractor laughed, but pulling muscles across the middle of the back where the bra strap is, isn’t funny at all.

Hahaha

Deathraystare · 17/04/2021 14:34

I am feeling very old. Still got that darn lung infection so huffing and puffing everywhere. Walking is a struggle at the moment because of it. Still can't get a GP appointment for it (only interested in my BP) so I will have to go back to A&E on Monday.

Not told any teenagers off for quite a while!
I am noticing how much I go oof and aah when getting on a bus, sitting down and getting up again!

Midnightstar76 · 17/04/2021 15:16

Joining in too. I am 44 and don’t drink wine as it now gives me a headache. Love watching gardeners world. Oh and live in my skinnies. I really enjoy knitting and crochet. I am contemplating joining WI

orangejuicer · 17/04/2021 15:50

38 going on 39 and definitely on the way to feeling middle aged -

New washing line yesterday has made me very happy.
Had a spat with a woman last weekend as she was harassing people for money on the street. She asked me and I blew my top. I wouldn't have had the confidence when I was younger.
Slippers are very important purchases.
I frown at people in cars outside with loud music on. I have done this at 2am in the dark.

Hesma · 17/04/2021 16:28

I’m 47 and definitely middle aged....

Got home from a short break yesterday and excited that it’s “good drying weather” today

Wear skinny jeans

Mainly drink tea

And finally.... I’m on Facebook 😬

Cocolapew · 17/04/2021 18:00

I spent a nice 20 minutes looking at elasticated waist trousers in M&S earlier.
