I Am So Middle aged.

DioneTheDiabolist · 16/04/2021 23:39

I'm menopausal.
I can't dance properly anymore. I now "mum dance".
I'm thinking of doing a dance class to rectify this.🤦‍♀️
I eat kefir yoghurt every day.
I've told off teenagers (that I dont know), twice, so far this week.😬
I still love my skinny jeans.😳
It's Friday night and I am drinking gin and posting on Mnet.Gin

There is no denying it, I am a total and utter middle aged woman. And it's alright.😎

Yes this is me.
In the car with a friend to a National Trust site the other day , Radio 1 accidentally came on and we both shouted ‘Noooo!’ and slipped back into the comfort of Radio 4.
This is the same friend from school who in the 90s used to drive us all to house parties with loud hip hop and grunge music blaring from the smoke-filled car and we loved it. Gives me a migraine just imagining that now.

Also love flat shoes, gardening, early nights, Zumba classes and tutting at people who drop litter.

moochingtothepub · 17/04/2021 08:30

I am and I don't care. I'm off out on the motorbike later then on to the pub this evening. Middle aged life with kids all grown is good.Grin

LoveSleeping · 17/04/2021 08:30

Hello fellow middle aged woman!

I also enjoy gardening, baking, comfy shoes and a nice G&T.

Currently struggling to get out of bed due to watching BBC4s Duran Duran Night until way past my usual 10pm bedtime. Whilst drinking gin.

Definitely can't do late nights any more!

@DioneTheDiabolist you and I met about 10/11 years ago at a MN Belfast meet up. I think we went to TGI Friday. Craic was had that night!! Grin

My most exciting thing this week was buying a bird feeder - wtf has happened to me ? 😂😂

SuperintendentHastings · 17/04/2021 08:32

I realised a couple of months ago that I really don't mind being middle aged.

I like garden centres. Getting my washing on the line literally makes my day. I spent a very happy hour on a bench last week with a friend comparing recipes and I don't have to pretend that I like wearing heels anymore. I also love a good night out in my skinny jeans and a 'nice top' with my equally like minded friends.

Oh and I'm a teacher so I frequently tell teenagers off. Grin

I had cancer last year and I feel privileged to even be here so it's all good as far as I'm concerned.

ThatOtherPoster · 17/04/2021 08:34

The best part of work for me is spending the day with another middle-aged woman. She’s 11 months younger than me. All say we chat about recipes, beauty tips for rapidly ageing faces, diets, our teenage kids, our grumpy husbands, TV shows and how often we poo. 😂 I love it.

cricketmum84 · 17/04/2021 08:35

I'm mid 30s but can tick most of these.
I'm staying in my skinnies thanks
Love telling off teenagers
I own a sensible coat and walking boots
I meal plan every week
I tut at crop tops

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 17/04/2021 08:38

Ooh great thread.

I stopped colouring my hair this year. Think my hairdresser (same age, been going to her for 35 years...) is a bit disappointed in me as we had A Pact, but am hoping she will like the and white stripes at the front and forgive me when I see her next week for the first time since September.

I do have some high heels but have worn them four times in 8 years. My favourite footwear are my walking shoes with fantastic arch support and I wear them whenever I can get away with it, which at the moment Is pretty much all the time I’m not wearing my comfy slippers. The only reason I want to go in an actual shop ever again is to buy another pair... apart from garden centres and plant nurseries of course. All my bras are comfy non-underwired and my pants are big.

At this moment, I’m sitting in a rocking chair with a cup of tea, about to plot a visit to a NT property, and in a short while I’ll be going to visit my grandson. My favourite TV programme at the moment is Sewing Bee and I think of Joe Lycett as “such a lovely young man”.

UhtredRagnarson · 17/04/2021 08:39

Hang on! Are skinny jeans middle aged??

PearsMorgan · 17/04/2021 08:40

@defnotadomesticgoddess I came on to talk about my bird feeders! I have four now including a special one for goldfinches.

But I will never drink gin.

Oh yes. I bought a feeder to stick on the window and I have been ridiculously thrilled to see the little birds using it.

Actually I did set off for the supermarket holding a teaspoon this morning. I took it downstairs meaning to put it in the sink but absentmindedly walked out the front door.

When I realised, I went to put it in a public bin but decided that was environmentally unfriendly so jammed it in my pocket. #middleageddementia?

ShurImGrand123 · 17/04/2021 08:44

God, I can’t stand skinny jeans so I still wear bootleg, on the rare occasion I wear jeans. Actually, I prefer anything with an elasticated waist to fit over my massive mum tum. (Short person so look like an ice lolly in skinnies)

Don’t drink gin as it tastes horrible, but drink lots of tonic on it’s own.

I guess this makes me an ancient crone, despite having a kid in primary school. Grin

Ha ha!

I accidentally went to the garden centre in my dilapidated gardening slip-ons the other day. Got half way there and realised, but thought “meh, people go to the supermarket in their PJs” and carried on. I was wearing purple too.

Beachcomber · 17/04/2021 08:46

Arf at pants bigger than your DDs crop tops @Fallsballs Grin

Me too.

I'm about to go and hang my bed sheets outside for a good blow and I'm excited about what a good drying day it is.

Then I'm going to make foccicia whilst wearing slippers and listening to women's hour (or possibly a podcast on the menopause).

Rock n roll.

I like it though. Could do without the jowls but you've got to take the rough with the smooth.

RaininSummer · 17/04/2021 08:46

Brilliant thread. Middle age is a comforting place in many ways. I seem to wear my fitflop trainers all the time now as my feet object to most other footwear. Big pants, oh yes, and they are bigger than my daughter's little tops when she stays. Also can't drink much and definitely not late at night as hot flushes ensue then. I have never been able to dance but concur to skinny jeans all the way.

I would love a bird feeder! Unfortunately I have two little huntress cats so it would basically be putting on an all you can eat buffet for them Sad

"As they left a bit later one of them turned and waved at me and shouted 'Bye Karen' in the most sarcastic voice.

It was incredibly difficult not to laugh but I did my best unimpressed scowl on behalf of us middle aged folk everywhere"

Hahaha @Impatientwino this made me laugh 😆

RuthW · 17/04/2021 08:48

Speak for yourself! I'm 52 and middle age is always ten years older than I am currently. I will never be middle aged!

My sister called me in absolute stitches before lockdown because she had walked out of work and got all the way to the bus stop before she realised she was still holding her work mug.

😂 This thread is brilliant!

Does anyone remember the Victoria Wood sketch where she's running through town, passes a shop selling Dr Scholl shoes and stops thinking "Oooh, they look comfy!"

I waver between feeling very middle-aged and feeling like I'm down with the kids. I'm 45 so know which category I'm more likely to fall into!

Afonavon · 17/04/2021 09:03

I have felt not like a grown up for all of my adult life, and now am peri-menopausal, realise that I have skipped the normal adult section. I love it!

I go to bed no later than 10pm, knit, crochet bake and love my succulents (though am shit at keeping plants alive). My favourite shoes are the comfiest, not the prettiest or trendiest. My language is full if words like “trendy”, “cool” ( this is my most used adjective!). A night with my friends is drinking gin, eating nibbles (antipasti, cheese, crackers, tortilla chips and dips), reminiscing about the good old days and moaning about our grumpy teenage children. And gin, lots of gin and a three day hangover...but then a long time until the next overindulgence as I’d rather not feel shite again, until I’ve forgotten and do it all over again. Of course Covid has fucked up the socialising.

Poorlykitten · 17/04/2021 09:08

For my birthday I received a plant in a pot. I was very happy with that.
I get young people to read the labels on things rather than having to sport my varifocals.
