Food you love but can't get any more

Let me lead with the Waitrose pecorino and back dip. They've discontinued it and I have no idea why. I have been whingeing about it for two years now why would you discontinue such a popular product ?

I am just hoping the pork and iberico chorizo sausage rolls, also from waitrose, don't go the same way. It's been ages since I've seen them on the shelves.

Not only is it lockdown with nowt eke to think about but for, but I'm on a calorie controlled diet atm trying to get back in my dinner clothes before the weather warns up! All I can think about is eating.

What foods do you miss? Have they been discontinued? Can you only get them in a location you can't access? Are you trying to lose the lockdown lbs? Please make me feel better about being an obsessive foodie by joining me!

Yes bars!

DinosaurDiana · 28/03/2021 09:39

Flora Buttery, in the gold packaging, used to be vegan. I’m not vegan and it tasted nice to me.
For some unknown reason they took a perfectly nice product and made it non-vegan. Why FGS ?

megletthesecond · 28/03/2021 09:39

M&S caramelised goats cheese. So good in salads. I still sadly scan the shelves for it.

And M&S chocochino muffins. My dc's loved them after swimming lessons and they vanished.

VienneseWhirligig · 28/03/2021 09:40

Just remembered a couple more - Reggae Reggae Coconut Rundown jar sauce. It was so good! I've made my own recipe based on the ingredients and it's lush but a lot of effort.

Also in the 90s you could get a tomato ketchup with proper onions in it. It was squeezy and the onions came out along with the ketchup - the hole was bigger than a normal squeezy bottle.

DinosaurDiana · 28/03/2021 09:40

@VienneseWhirligig

Danepak Bacon Grills - lovely processed bacon and a layer of cheese in breadcrumbs. Mmm. Perfect for a sandwich.

Sun Valley Turkey burgers - similar to bacon grills but turkey instead of bacon.

Mignons morceaux

Tesco used to do a tomato and ham pasta pot years ago in the dip/coleslaw section which was really tasty but they stopped

Bacon grills were amazing ! I forgot about those.
bellagogosdead · 28/03/2021 09:40

liberte yoghurts still at tesco.

Bearsbearsbears40 · 28/03/2021 09:41

For those mentioning toffee and mallow eggs, I bought some of these while in NZ a couple of years ago. I know that’s absolutely no help at all if you’re based in the UK, but just in case you have any NZ friends... Such a shame we can’t get them here 🙁

OhWhyNot · 28/03/2021 09:45

Another one who misses Toffee and Mallow eggs. Haven’t had one for about 20 years and still miss them. I don’t like cream eggs

Potato puffs

Tesco’s frozen cheese sauce it was in the frozen freshly prepared food range (along with frozen chopped herbs/chilli/ginger) it was handy for quick meals ds loved it chicken and garlic haven’t seen it for about a year

Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia Other flavours I find too sweet

McDonald’s fruits of the forest pie. Just looked this up apparently from the 80’s Shock

RogueMNerKnowsNoShame · 28/03/2021 09:48

@neverstophopping

About ten years ago Tesco did an amazing mushroom patè. Alas, it is no more
Sainsbury’s do one. I’m not sure if it’s the same, but it is delicious.

I’ve got 2.
About 20years ago, Covent Garden did a lentil soup. They’ve never done it since.
And tinned artichoke hearts in water. They only seem to be available in oil now

ZombeaArthur · 28/03/2021 09:49

Thornton’s strawberry fondant pigs Sad I actually had a little cry in the shop when the assistant told me they’d been discontinued. I blamed it on pregnancy hormones but I’m not sure that was entirely accurate Grin
Gregg’s bacon big bite sandwich.
I haven’t seen a Terry’s chocolate orange with popping candy for a few years. You can get a bag of segments, but it’s not quite the same as the whole orange.
Werther’s used to to little caramel chocolates which were delicious but I haven’t seen those in a long time either.

GoryGilmore · 28/03/2021 09:50

Innocent veg pots! The only thing that kept me remotely healthy during my student days.

OhWhyNot · 28/03/2021 09:52

Cadbury’s Snowflake Bar

Orange Viscount Biscuits love the mint ones but sometimes fancy something a little different

buttcrackmcheese · 28/03/2021 09:56

Mississippi mud pie corner yoghurts. And co-op in the 90's sold bags of miniature garlic breads in the crisp aisle. They were really crunchy and garlicky, haven't been able to find any for years ☹️

Dropdeadfred2 · 28/03/2021 09:57

Gotthetshirt23 · 28/03/2021 10:00

Refreshers (original recipes)
Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Therapy
Tyrells Habas Fritas

Flibbitygibbit · 28/03/2021 10:04

@DinosaurDiana

Years ago Sainsbury’s used to do a fresh pasta sauce that was packed with fresh chicken. It made a really nice meal. But it’s gone.
I was going to say Sara Lee Pecan Danish.... bloody LOVELY
MiddleClassProblem · 28/03/2021 10:04

Although there is something similar to the Sara Lee double chocolate gateau out there but they even used to do mini ones that you could have to yourself

inigomontoyahwillcox · 28/03/2021 10:04

Ben and Jerrys Chubby Hubby - Vanilla Malt Ice Cream with Peanut Fudge-Covered Pretzels with Fudge & Peanut Buttery Swirls. Believe they still do it in the US, but alas no longer in the UK.

Tesco used to do a chicken, potato snd chorizo tray bake ready meal which was lovely.

Sainsbury's did an extra thick milkshake powder in the late 80s that I still think about.

Flibbitygibbit · 28/03/2021 10:05

Don't know why I quoted chicken pasta 🤣 Missing that hour !

vampirethriller · 28/03/2021 10:06

Worcester sauce twiglets and lychee Rubicon ice lollies.

KatherineJaneway · 28/03/2021 10:08

Tesco did salmon and dill cottage cheese. Amazing stuff.

vampirethriller · 28/03/2021 10:08

And M and S carrot cake cookies.

Furrybutts · 28/03/2021 10:08

Raspberry Angel Delight.

You can buy it in industrial amounts from Amazon, but it's not in any shops.
