Food you love but can't get any more

Let me lead with the Waitrose pecorino and back dip. They've discontinued it and I have no idea why. I have been whingeing about it for two years now why would you discontinue such a popular product ?

I am just hoping the pork and iberico chorizo sausage rolls, also from waitrose, don't go the same way. It's been ages since I've seen them on the shelves.

Not only is it lockdown with nowt eke to think about but for, but I'm on a calorie controlled diet atm trying to get back in my dinner clothes before the weather warns up! All I can think about is eating.

What foods do you miss? Have they been discontinued? Can you only get them in a location you can't access? Are you trying to lose the lockdown lbs? Please make me feel better about being an obsessive foodie by joining me!

vampirethriller · 29/03/2021 17:27

Romantica frozen gateau was amazing. All those little toffee balls.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 29/03/2021 17:52

I don't remember many of these products but I do remember cod balls - fish fillet in batter, they were so delicious!

I see these threads and always hope that some supermarket manager with clout will be reading and making notes for some/all of these lovely things to be brought back... as if by magic!

userxx · 29/03/2021 20:11

@Elderflower14

Just remembered another. Bernard Matthews Lemon and Cracked Black Pepper Turkey Steaks...

I used to practically live on those.

lollipoprainbow · 29/03/2021 20:15

M & S used to do a gorgeous prawn curry I think it was called prawn makhani? It was king prawns in a delicious creamy tomato and spiced sauce.

PinkTonic · 29/03/2021 20:48

@rockingthelook

M and S breaded plaice fillets stuffed with prawns in a sauce M and S Jacket potatoes stuffed with mushrooms in cream sauce, gorgeous Mint Cracknel bars Cadburys Cabana bar Nutty bar
M&S used to do a delicious frozen haddock Kiev too, it was bloody delicious.

B&J rainforest crunch is my most missed flavour.

And does anyone remember Barmouth biscuits? They were so nice.

ignatiusjreilly · 29/03/2021 20:56

A few people have mentioned butterscotch instant whip. Butterscotch angel delight is still available, if that's what you mean. I've bought it recently from both Tesco and Waitrose.

OhWhyNot · 29/03/2021 21:42

Bovril Crisps are lovely

I’m sure crisps are less messy to eat now I seem to remember crisps leaving fingers stained only crisps to do that now are Wotsits

vampirethriller · 30/03/2021 11:55

I still miss Pyramints too. And the original Caramac, rather than the thing that tastes like vanilla car air freshener that you get today.

@Boofips

Homepride Garlic & Herb Potato bake - I absolutely adored this Sad
Me too!!

It was so tasty.

SmellsLikeAHamsterCage · 30/03/2021 14:08

@Chocciebiscuit

Oh and Bicks tomato burger relish and the sweetcorn version, my 1980’s childhood bbq’s were incomplete without them on burgers/hot dogs.
I love Bicks burger relish. The last time I had it was in the early to mid 2000s. I didn't like it on burgers but I loved dipping chicken nuggets in it!
SmellsLikeAHamsterCage · 30/03/2021 14:18

Birds Eye Crispy Potato Fritters. They tasted so good dipped in salad cream.

3D Doritos, paprika flavour.

Bird's Eye Inspirations frozen stir fry rice and Thai chicken meal.

LadyofMisrule · 30/03/2021 16:34

Mumtaz curries from Morrisons. There was a lovely mined beef one. Alas, no more.

JamieFrasersLover · 30/03/2021 17:08

@RedcurrantPuff

Sainsbury’s extra fine dice frozen veg

Great for soup and pasta sauces.

Waitrose do this, its called soffrito. Also tesco seem to have started doing it too, just plain diced veg there . I buy it every week.

I personally wouldn't unless I wanted to get it out of my system because of the cost and it won't taste like it does in your memories but if someone asks you what you want for Easter...

TheMethodicalMeerkat · 30/03/2021 18:30

@JarvisCockerSpanieI thanks. I’d almost be tempted but the £22 (!!) delivery charge to Ireland really makes the decision for me Grin. Another poster messaged that B&M have them. I do have family in the UK so might ask them to take a look for me.

@Iveputmyselfonthenaughtystep - Irn Bru Bars OMG I need them in my life!!!!!!!!

DixieLandReject · 30/03/2021 21:02

Birdseye Hungry Joes

MiddleClassProblem · 30/03/2021 21:02

Yes! Irn bru bars 😋

IHaveBrilloHair · 30/03/2021 21:46

Proper knobbly cheetos, not available here anymore.
I love the bright orange hand staining things.
Muller full fat and sugar coconut yoghurt without bits in it.
I don't eat low fat stuff, or artificial sweeteners, and I hate the texture of coconut but love the flavour.
The chewing gum that tasted like Geraldine, I loved that.

BrimfulOfBaba · 31/03/2021 08:23

In the same boat as all the cherry garcia lovers!

Also, the veg-a-roma pizza from Domino's and the veggie burger from Burger King. It had a really generous helping of onion and pickle and the burger itself was lush. I miss veggie burgers that are veggie/bean patties instead of just pretend meat Sad (I'm not even a veggie)

AlexaRain · 31/03/2021 08:30

@neverstophopping

About ten years ago Tesco did an amazing mushroom patè. Alas, it is no more
I miss that too ☹️
BrimfulOfBaba · 31/03/2021 08:43

@ladyofmisrule they still sell Mumtaz curries at co-op, although I've not seen a mince one. Theirs are the best microwave curries!

If you mean it tasted like Germolene, you're probably thinking of Dentyne. It was supposed to be good for your teeth, and tasted foul. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dentyne#:~:text=Dentyne%20(%2F%CB%8Cd%C9%9Bn,an%20aid%20to%20oral%20hygiene.&text=By%20the%201930s%2C%20Dentyne%20was%20produced%20by%20the%20Adams%20Gum%20Company.
LadyofMisrule · 31/03/2021 09:58

Thank you @BrimfulOfBaba I shall see if I can track some down. I’ve not seen them in our local co-op, but I shall check further afield. :-)
