Let me lead with the Waitrose pecorino and back dip. They've discontinued it and I have no idea why. I have been whingeing about it for two years now why would you discontinue such a popular product ?

I am just hoping the pork and iberico chorizo sausage rolls, also from waitrose, don't go the same way. It's been ages since I've seen them on the shelves.

Not only is it lockdown with nowt eke to think about but for, but I'm on a calorie controlled diet atm trying to get back in my dinner clothes before the weather warns up! All I can think about is eating.

What foods do you miss? Have they been discontinued? Can you only get them in a location you can't access? Are you trying to lose the lockdown lbs? Please make me feel better about being an obsessive foodie by joining me!

When I was a nipper in the 1970's , my Dad always took me to the paper shop on Sunday mornings and he would get me a Pink Panther strawberry flavour chocolate bar. Delicious 😋

@buttcrackmcheese

Mississippi mud pie corner yoghurts. And co-op in the 90's sold bags of miniature garlic breads in the crisp aisle. They were really crunchy and garlicky, haven't been able to find any for years ☹️
Aldi do something similar although I'm not sure if they're the same size as the ones the co op used to do and I can't remember the name of them because I was given them to try but they are really strong garlicky and lovely.

Callard and Bowser butterscotch. Werther Originals are not the same.

At one point sainsburys did a budget version of Rice Krispies, they came in a bag, no box. Ridiculously cheap, about 30p ish If memory serves me. They were tinier than Rice Krispies and less crackly but so delicious mused into other cereal or alone. I miss them lots, i think this was around 2010

Unbelievably I’ve just found an article about them Shock www.packagingnews.co.uk/news/environment/sainsburys-scraps-boxes-for-basics-cereal-range-22-06-2009

Butterscotch Instant Whip. Used to love it as a child

HedgeSparrows · 28/03/2021 23:25

Spangles.

This Christmas Sainsbury's did something called Snowball Spread which was a chocolate spread with dessicated coconut in it. It tasted exactly like those coconut marshmallow things that were really popular in the eighties, but in spread form, and was amazing. Unfortunately it was a Christmas-only product and they have discontinued it. If anyone from Sainsbury's is reading this, you should bring this product back and market the hell out of it.

Sharwood's did a Tamarind Sweet and Sour Sauce which I was addicted to. They then did a 'new and improved' version, adding fish sauce. As a vegetarian I could no longer buy it. Then they discontinued it altogether. Bring it back, Sharwood's. (But without the fishy stuff.)

@VienneseWhirligig

Danepak Bacon Grills - lovely processed bacon and a layer of cheese in breadcrumbs. Mmm. Perfect for a sandwich.

Sun Valley Turkey burgers - similar to bacon grills but turkey instead of bacon.

Mignons morceaux

Tesco used to do a tomato and ham pasta pot years ago in the dip/coleslaw section which was really tasty but they stopped

Oh my goodness mignons morceaux!! That's taken me straight back to my childhood, I LOVED those!!

Magnum doubles - the chocolate version. Best ice cream on sticks.

ImpatiensI · 28/03/2021 23:42

Sainsburys did a really delicious tinned chickpea dhal for a while - it was fantastic, I could eat a whole tin on it's own. Maybe I was the only one buying it? Sad

When the Tim Burton Charlie and the Chocolate Factory came out they sold some Willie Wonka bars in the shops for a while - there was one called something like a Whipped Bar, it was SO nice!

joangray38 · 28/03/2021 23:46

M&S kedgeree

SusannahSophia · 28/03/2021 23:46

Discovery enchilada sauce in a jar. It was fantastic. Sad Then more recently a tomatillo fajita sauce. Funny how they’re both Mexican?

LoungeLizardLhama · 28/03/2021 23:51

Funnily enough I was thinking about this just yesterday.
I miss Phileas Fogg Punjab purri snacks, knorrs chicken and lemongrass soup, and the strawberry milkshake I had as a child in the 70s that left dots of pink on the top of the milk like Horlicks used to do.

bluedomino · 28/03/2021 23:54

Kunzle cakes.

Food you love but can't get any more
EsmaCannonball · 28/03/2021 23:57

Oh, and Tesco did a Tomato and Basil Paté. It was always sold out, so it must have been popular, but they discontinued it.

southernbelles · 29/03/2021 00:01

@Spied

Options Turkish Delight hot chocolate.
Ooooh yes I used to love this!
Charlieandlola · 29/03/2021 00:03

Burger King Mushroom Double Swiss - perfect hangover cure

EsmaCannonball · 29/03/2021 00:11

And one more. M&S used to do a caramelised orange yoghurt, one of those layered ones, that was absolutely gorgeous. Why do they discontinue all the best things?

RedcurrantPuff · 29/03/2021 00:14

I love hazelnut yoghurt @Tangledtresses. Not ski but I used to eat a Sainsbury’s hazelnut yoghurt every day of my second pregnancy. That was 2008, no idea if they still do them.

RhubarbCustardy · 29/03/2021 00:16

Mint Cracknell-used to have shards of crunchy mint pieces running through the chocolate. Never had anything like it since.

RedcurrantPuff · 29/03/2021 00:17

I was talking about the toffee and mallow eggs and the mint ones with the green yolk just the other day, my family thought I was just talking shit.

RhubarbCustardy · 29/03/2021 00:18

And Marks and Spencers used to make Vegetable Crispbakes now they just make the shitty cheese n onion ones-yuk!

RedcurrantPuff · 29/03/2021 00:18

Also pyramints and Bitz bars

Biarritz chocolates in the triangular box
