Things I’m never buying from Lidl again....

I like Lidl a lot. I like that there’s little choice of brands which stops me dithering. I like that there’s only about 5 aisles so it’s quick but there’s definitely things I’ll never buy again.

  1. tortilla wraps. They stick together in the pack and tear when you try and separate them.

  2. and the main reason for this thread. The sanitary towels! Awful, so awful for many reasons and I’ve only been using them for today. Never again.

Anything else I need to swerve??

@underneaththeash I think it really depends on the area
My local Aldi - awful
Local Lidl - brand new and lovely. Wide aisles, got everything I need, really helpful staff and i pack at the till by using large bags and just doing a fridge/freezer bag and a ambient bag
Cost me £41 today for two of those giant bag for life full of food and that was chucking premium stuff in the trolley too

Red velvet cake. Had some today. Tastea of nothing, hardly and icing in the middle and the cream cheese icing doesn't taste real somehow. Cream cheese flavour?

HeathIns · 06/03/2021 20:32

I found that all sanitary towels are useless. I'd been using them for 20 years without issue and now they're all just crap.

Ditto.
I buy shop brand Tena/ bladder weakness towels for periods. They are like SanT used to be. No crappy gel and horrible shiny outer layer.

ElfAndSafetyInspector · 06/03/2021 20:33

Lidl's version of jammy dodgers. I hadn't had a jammy dodger for ages and I was SO looking forward to them. Absolutely rank. Even my sugar-fiend DD wouldn't eat them.

Teddy1970 · 06/03/2021 20:33

Lidl fabric softener is really good, the scent lasts for ages on the clothes. I'm wary about buying chicken from there.

Longdistance · 06/03/2021 20:33

@YolandiFuckinVisser bloody hell! What wine did you have? Their wines are amazing Shock

SussexCharm2000 · 06/03/2021 20:33

I live abroad and we have a local Lidl. At Christmas they do a luxury range - not sure if they do the same in the UK? Amazing stuff - potatoe gratin with truffles, special dishes such as lobster, seafood pastries etc.

CrayonInThreeBits · 06/03/2021 20:34

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

I'm reminded of that old Music Hall song "Oh I'll never buy a ladle from Lidl, A Lidl ladle is not what I will buy..."

Well you all know the rest of the song but it's certainly good advice.

Potted chives - infected my whole herb collection with some sort of compost fly - all had to be binned

moanieleminx · 06/03/2021 20:36

I use washable sanitary towels. They are fab.

I hate Lidls spring rolls and pizza.

I bloody love their spicy hummus.

Yes they do 😋

I needed to cut down our shopping bill so going to Lidl, I’m not happy but needs be.

Their washing up liquid is crap, their corn flakes taste horrid and we cannot stomach their steak or other beef. I bought a box of plastic gloves to protect my hands when painting and they simply fall to pieces. Tried their piri piri sauce and my DH said it has no real flavour. DH has asked me to no longer buy their brand of pop chips and daughters won’t eat the tinned tuna.

With that said, the cheese slices are pretty good as are the sliced sandwich meats. My DH likes the minestrone from last weeks Italian aisle. My family doesn’t know the difference between Lidl smoked salmon and Waitrose. Toilet paper was ok too.

NoseOfJericho · 06/03/2021 20:36

Face cream and body lotion. It contains an ingredient that is in household cleaning products, an allergen. It also smells like piss.

Pastrami.

Cheese, unless you like to eat soap.

Fungus gnats, an added extra. For future reference you can water some neem oil into the soil (diluted) or let it dry out completely which will sometimes get rid of Lidl gifts.
Teddy1970 · 06/03/2021 20:39

What is Aldi's caviar face cream like?

NoseOfJericho · 06/03/2021 20:39

Toilet cleaner, smells like public toilets that haven't been cleaned.

BiarritzCrackers · 06/03/2021 20:40

There are some crackers to go with cheese that taste like compost, but I can't remember the name. Also don't like their normal crisps, not as good as Walkers.

NoseOfJericho · 06/03/2021 20:40

Washing up liquid is crap and smells very strong. (Formil washing powder is good though).

anotherwinkywinkybumbum · 06/03/2021 20:41

@GreenSlide, where can you find Always Infinity now??!?!?! They have disappeared from my local shops and I miss them.

SpiceRat · 06/03/2021 20:42

I normally shop at Tescos or Morrisons (so I'm not posh.....grin) and the quality is completely different.
Whereas I’ve never had a problem with Lidl veg but Tesco here I’ve had veg delivered that was literally dripping with brown. Tesco is absolutely rotten for veg here 🤮

Anything from the bakery mainly because i scoff it in one go

AgeLikeWine · 06/03/2021 20:42

Gouda cheese slices. Tasteless, rubbery, inedible. I absolutely hate waste and very rarely throw away edible food, but this muck went in the bin.

MirandaMarple · 06/03/2021 20:42

I liked their non-applicator tampons but they stopped selling them. It is the only thing I have to go elsewhere for.

MsTSwift · 06/03/2021 20:43

Eggs. During lockdown switched to m & s food hall my god the improvement on Lidl! M&S eggs are large and yellow made me realise how hideous Lidl ones are. I now only get absolute basics at lidl like rice tinned tomatoes etc.

SpiceRat · 06/03/2021 20:44

Excellent. I buy the day and night cream and the lacura q10 multi intensive serum too and it’s massive helped my crepey double chin Grin

Fresh pizzas
Avocado
Fish fingers
