Things I’m never buying from Lidl again....

I like Lidl a lot. I like that there’s little choice of brands which stops me dithering. I like that there’s only about 5 aisles so it’s quick but there’s definitely things I’ll never buy again.

  1. tortilla wraps. They stick together in the pack and tear when you try and separate them.

  2. and the main reason for this thread. The sanitary towels! Awful, so awful for many reasons and I’ve only been using them for today. Never again.

Anything else I need to swerve??

Shower gel.
Tampons.

I’m sure there must be more but I can’t remember Grin. Generally speaking I love Lidl, but I know there a few things I avoid.

I think this is a problem in general with sanitary towels. I didn't have periods for about 18 months due to fertility treatment / pregnancy and when I started them again, I found that all sanitary towels are useless. I'd been using them for 20 years without issue and now they're all just crap.

GreenSlide · 06/03/2021 19:33

The shower gel and laundry detergent are not good for those with sensitive skin.

Always infinity are pretty good.

Bodyform seem to be the only decent ones around at the minute, although I did get a free pack of Lil-Lets at the chemist and they’re ok. Didn’t even know Lil-ets made sanitary towels up until then.
Always are horrible.
There’s such a gap in the market for consistently nice ones which are available in most shops.

Are those ones scented? @GreenSlide

Fresh fruit & veg....it always goes off quickly.

The last time my DH bought a bag of potatoes in there we had to throw the whole lot away as they were manky and rotten

Don't think so, they have a foam inside so they stay nice and dry. Nothing worse than the bunched up plastic on top of a wet sanitary towel Sad
mynameiscalypso · 06/03/2021 19:37

@GreenSlide I used to use Always and have tried the Infinity ones but they still don't seem as good as they used to be. My periods are much lighter since having a baby and yet I still end up leaking everywhere. Sorry, probably TMI on a thread about Lidl!

Moirarose2021 · 06/03/2021 19:38

Fruit esp fruit like mango and raspberries also avocados, all been v disappointing more than once and even with lidl prices not cheap

ClangingChimesofDoom · 06/03/2021 19:38

Meat, always goes off the day you bring it home regardless of the use by date!

lljkk · 06/03/2021 19:40

Lidl bagels are nasty. Extended tasteless cardboard flavour long life. Their other bakery goods are fine, but skip the darn bagels!!

F&Veg fine but always scrutinise for freshness.

wellthatsunusual · 06/03/2021 19:41

The only things I've ever been disappointed with in Lidl were the fresh vegetables but that was years ago and I find them much better now. I love Lidl.

Kittykatmacbill · 06/03/2021 19:42

Never any problem w fresh produce but there fresh soup is universally terrible.

DramaAlpaca · 06/03/2021 19:42

I don't like their breakfast cereals (though I like Aldi's ones) and I don't like their teabags either.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 06/03/2021 19:42

Their fresh tomatoes are really flavourless.

FreeAt50 · 06/03/2021 19:43

Salad bags. For some reason I keep trying it but it stinks when I open it like seaweed, and is wet and off! This is with days and days to go on the date

YolandiFuckinVisser · 06/03/2021 19:45

I've had some awful wine from Lidl, I won't even try now.

Totally agree! Everyone raves about Aldi and Lidl, and they do have some good stuff - but their fruit and veg is appalling! Every time I have caved in and tried again, it all goes bad within days!

I normally shop at Tescos or Morrisons (so I'm not posh.....Grin) and the quality is completely different.

freezingmarch · 06/03/2021 19:51

Their steak was great before but now fatty and full of gristle. Won't buy anymore.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 06/03/2021 19:51

Fruit and veg

NeedToGetOuttaHere · 06/03/2021 19:54

The pizzas, I don’t eat them but my DC tried them and said they tasted cheap and not very nice.

Donotfeedthebears · 06/03/2021 19:54

Avocado - very hard and tasted soapy!

DumpedByText · 06/03/2021 19:54

I don't like the toilet roll. Even their premium range is awful.

I don't like the toiletries either, but the laundry stuff and fabric softener is good though.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 06/03/2021 19:57

I'm reminded of that old Music Hall song
"Oh I'll never buy a ladle from Lidl,
A Lidl ladle is not what I will buy..."

Well you all know the rest of the song but it's certainly good advice.
