Things I’m never buying from Lidl again....

I like Lidl a lot. I like that there’s little choice of brands which stops me dithering. I like that there’s only about 5 aisles so it’s quick but there’s definitely things I’ll never buy again.

  1. tortilla wraps. They stick together in the pack and tear when you try and separate them.

  2. and the main reason for this thread. The sanitary towels! Awful, so awful for many reasons and I’ve only been using them for today. Never again.

Anything else I need to swerve??

Mince, had bits of bone in it. Wasnt their cheaper stuff either.Envy
Fruit and veg, half bad on the day you buy it.
Greek cheese pasties, my God, vile.
However their Greek yoghurt is lovely and the potato salad alone is worth going for!

Whatwouldscullydo · 06/03/2021 22:11

I hate Lidl, we have to shop there every week because dh insists it’s such great value. I then pop into Waitrose mid week to buy all of my bits. Call me a snob but I can’t stand crap quality food

I got told I just didn't appreciate good wine on another thread Grin

As if I need to he abke to appreciate wine in order to know if something tastes like paint stripper or not. Theres a difference between tasting like wine but it not being to my taste and not being out of place in a bathroom cupboard with the cotton wool pads.

I'm not remotely fussy, I eat own brands, value brands, and will eat stuff whether it comes from a market stall or harrods provided i like it. But the food there...its just 🤢

jjjnnnnnrrssss · 06/03/2021 22:12

I've had a pack of easy peelers go completely mouldy in a day or two from Lidl. Their veg I've never had problems with but I am super cautious about their fruit now.

IsThePopeCatholic · 06/03/2021 22:16

I hate all their meat, sour cream squeezy sauce (inedible), frozen lobster (no meat on it).

Benjispruce2 · 06/03/2021 22:18

I love Lidl.

whataboutbob · 06/03/2021 22:19

I only stick to some items that I know are ok: basic olive oil for frying and I make soap with it, wouldn’t use it in a salad, the nuts are good and well priced, their frankfurters are really good, the unsalted butter is the cheapest you can find, they do good frozen berries and frozen prawns, their tinned pulses are fine, the deluxe tinned tomatoes are ok I wouldn’t touch the regular tins, etc. Their free range chicken is ok. And the prices are a good deal so I’m happy to go there but mix it up with Sainsbury’s and sometimes Waitrose.

Glenthebattleostrich · 06/03/2021 22:20

Not on the topic of what to avoid but on the towels thing, i switched to a mooncup (v heavy days) / period pants (medium to light days) 18 months ago and haven't looked back!

springdale1 · 06/03/2021 22:22

It’s honestly mad when people say the fruit and veg is not the same. My friend supplies cabbages to normal supermarkets and Aldi. Another friend supplies eggs from one shed to Tesco’s and the other to Waitrose. They are exactly the same!

ihaveallergies · 06/03/2021 22:22

Honestly? The bakery

I know, I know, everyone raves about the bakery but every time I’ve been in Lidl, the bakery is situated near the entrance and a hoard of files are swarming the uncovered pastries 🤮

IggyAce · 06/03/2021 22:24

Their dark chocolate absolutely vile, Aldi’s on the other hand is lovely.

userxx · 06/03/2021 22:24

@Catwoman123

Spinach. Mine had 7 snails in the packet

Free protein 🤷‍♂️. What's your grumble.

suk44 · 06/03/2021 22:25

Lidl is one of the fastest growing supermarkets, so it must be doing something right!

Then they do something to ot, store it poorly somewhere along the line before the put it out. How else is it growing friends and having a party in cloudy/steamy packets on the shelf in one shop and perfectly fine in another.

@ShouldHaveCouldHaveWouldHave

Bodyform seem to be the only decent ones around at the minute, although I did get a free pack of Lil-Lets at the chemist and they’re ok. Didn’t even know Lil-ets made sanitary towels up until then. Always are horrible. There’s such a gap in the market for consistently nice ones which are available in most shops.
Agree. Bodyform far superior to anything else I’ve tried. I used to be loyal to Always through habit but hate the chemically perfume and sweaty plastic feel.

However, I’m now free from all forms of sanitary towel vileness because I have discovered the joys of menstrual cups and am now a total evangelical about my £3 eBay Chinese mooncup knock-off. No more bleeding into a reconfigured plastic bag hallelujah!

Its not mad, so because your mate delivers some cabbages obviously everyone is just stupid who thinks their fruit and veg is crap. I've bought it plenty in the past and always the same so don't bother anymore.
Arrowheart · 06/03/2021 22:26

Pizzas
Washing liquid
Peanut butter
Jaffa cakes

Leah2005 · 06/03/2021 22:27

I only came on to recommend a moon cup @Glenthebattleostrich. Best thing ever - just sad I only discovered them a year before menopause.
I love lidl avocados but only on the day you buy them.

fabulousspider · 06/03/2021 22:31

The veg quality is DEFINITELY worse, for certain items. Some are always / usually fine. The worst offenders are: potatoes, cucumber, salad leaves. Much other stuff fine. Great tomatoes, for example. They often leave broccoli out on the shelves that is yellow and going mouldy. I think they seem to maybe leave stuff out longer, or put it out later or something. Certain veg, no problems. But I have given up buying some veg because it goes off almost instantly. You have to be quite wary.

springdale1 · 06/03/2021 22:35

@Frubecube I didn’t say anyone was stupid! I work in agriculture so have quite detailed knowledge of food chains. It was just an example!

ihaveallergies · 06/03/2021 22:35

It’s really not. I’m vegetarian so practically exclusively eat fresh fruit and veg. There’s a massive difference between Waitrose/M&S and the rest of the supermarkets. You can tell when fresh produce is cheap/shitty, it’s not as fresh and there’s no bite. Just mushy, bland garbage

SomethingbeginningL · 06/03/2021 22:37

Fruit and veg! It barely lasts a day!

Deborino · 06/03/2021 22:37

My daughter bought rissoto rice which was full of maggots!

NoseOfJericho · 06/03/2021 22:39

@Rosehip10

The fresh blueberries are always over ripe and vile
In our Lidl they are usually covered in mould.
Loopyloututu2 · 06/03/2021 22:39

I’ve just stopped going as I find the crap items far outweigh the good ones (the donuts and pastries are the good ones that spring to mind!)
I’ve had one too many packs of mouldy fruit and tasteless biscuits etc plus meat that smells like it’s gone off when you open it. Plus all the stuff I bought for the dc’s that just doesn’t get eaten because “it tastes weird”.

Longdistance · 06/03/2021 22:39

I do like their porridge pots which are great in the mornings for work.
I get some of their orange sticker items. No issues with them, I put them in my freezer, some are 70p some are 20p. Bloody cracking and nothing wrong with it.
The veg is hit and miss. Everything else is fab.
