Things I’m never buying from Lidl again....

I like Lidl a lot. I like that there’s little choice of brands which stops me dithering. I like that there’s only about 5 aisles so it’s quick but there’s definitely things I’ll never buy again.

  1. tortilla wraps. They stick together in the pack and tear when you try and separate them.

  2. and the main reason for this thread. The sanitary towels! Awful, so awful for many reasons and I’ve only been using them for today. Never again.

Anything else I need to swerve??

I avoid their fruit and veg as no dates and often turned by next day when I go to use it. I do like their cien kids shower gel mind seems the same as the same demo kids one and less than half the price. Doesn't flair up his eczema either which is great. Love their orange juice less bitter than tropical but avoid the tropical juice far to much banana in it.

imyournextdoorneighbour · 07/03/2021 19:58

Another for fruit and veg. Absolute rubbish. Do like their meat though. Oh and of course, the middle of Lidl.

CrankyFrankie · 07/03/2021 20:01

It’s our new local and I’m quickly discovering it’s nearly all total shite. How do they even manage to grow soapy tomatoes and salty cucumbers? That said, the Deluxe brand fresh coffee and maple syrup, and the filthy, festive Favorina-branded treats are all well worth stockpiling. Best thing about it is the constant reminder of Peter Kay’s sketch about feeling like you’re in an exciting ‘foreign’ supermarket 😁

QueenPaw · 07/03/2021 20:07

@CrankyFrankie try the deluxe marvellous tomatoes. Eating them now (with salt on as usual) and they're lovely!
I've honestly had no issues with anything I've bought but I kind of see it as Heinz mayo v Hellman's - they taste different but it doesn't mean one is worse than the other

Pickanee · 07/03/2021 20:27

Use reusable pads-way nicer (for you and environment) and softer. I could go on. I agree about the tortillas

Mrssheppard18 · 07/03/2021 20:29

Oh and they’re face wash the one in the green tube makes me break out when nothing has ever made my skin do that before

RMNMummy · 07/03/2021 20:32

@Notabove25

It bothers me what the other supermarkets do to their produce to make it last so long. Fresh fruit and veg isn't supposed to last for weeks.
This!!! So true

just had to post this 🤣 (but to stay on point, terrible tampons)
Frownette · 07/03/2021 20:38

I didn't like some vegetarian pasta things (Polish themed? Fillings like cabbage/quark/mushroom), also an open pasta spinach ricotta dish, and thought the hummus was bland.

Love the jarred black olives, antipasta, canned ginger shot drink and chilled coffee drink.

A PP was saying they do sour cherries...?That would be like heaven

Pierogi?
TripleSeptic · 07/03/2021 21:04

Don't buy the coffee in a Tim with the plastic orange lid. It tastes like burnt dust and floor sweepings

TripleSeptic · 07/03/2021 21:13

*tin

Bertiebiscuit · 07/03/2021 21:27

Their own brand baked beans - taste of nothing

LovelyIssues · 07/03/2021 21:28

Tesco tortilla wraps are the WORST. never had a problem with Lidl ones. Lidl croissants are very... Meh

TheKeatingFive · 07/03/2021 21:29

Hmm the only thing I really avoid are the oranges (small ones). They’re often very poor.

I don’t buy many toiletries in the supermarket anyway. I also don’t buy much pre prepared stuff.

But the meat/dairy is absolutely fine. The fruit and veg can go off more quickly, but I’m okay with that, I shop more frequently for perishables.

I don't agree - they taste of sugar, lots of sugar.
PamDenick · 07/03/2021 22:14

Rollerskates

I bought some circa 1998

They were a bit plasticky

And generally I love the Aisle of Randomness.

kennycat · 07/03/2021 22:19

The cluster cereal (maple and pecan) because it’s just too nice that I can’t resist eating the whole packet dry from
The packet over the course of two or three nights in front of the laptop!

JFM27 · 07/03/2021 22:24

I mostly shop at Aldi as its just up road from me,And their 4 ply loo roll are better than any,but they are premium ones.Chocolate is great, cheese, yoghurt too. But not keen on fruit apart from braburn apples and -tangerines but no other fruut and veg.Would never buy chicken or fish there ive often seen it left out on pallets too long..O yes and dont buy their daffodils. They rarely come out properly

LouH1981 · 07/03/2021 23:00

The nappies gave my baby daughter a rash and the wipes are too dry.
Other than those, I’m a huge Lidl fan!

eastegg · 07/03/2021 23:03

Their 'posh' salted crisps. I made the mistake of confusing them with Aldi one week and going in specially for their lovely own brand crisps. After finding them inedible as basically a bag of salt (and I'm really not fussy about crisps) I remembered it's Aldi who do the really nice ones.

TwinMama6 · 08/03/2021 00:55

I prefer Aldi sanitary towels for night time. Also I love femelle perfume from Lidl. Smells like La vie est belle by Lancôme. One is £4.99 the other over £100!!!

Harmonypuss · 08/03/2021 05:37

Absolutely everything!

I wouldn't touch lidl or aldi with a barge pole, nasty itchy (yes, itchy) places, I've never been into one of either chain without coming out scratching ... yuk!!!

lollipoprainbow · 08/03/2021 06:39

@Harmonypuss HmmHmm

lollipoprainbow · 08/03/2021 06:41

@JFM27 I've had daffodils from there that open just fine !! In fact all their flowers are lovely, I got some gorgeous pink roses from there for £2 and their tulips are lovely, why pay a fortune in Waitrose for them when you can buy them for £1.69!!
