Do these sofas look old fashioned?

I’m looking for new sofas, I really don’t want ones with loose cushioned backs or seats as they never look tidy and the teens end up taking the cushions off.

These look so comfortable and supportive but I’m not sure whether they look like something elderly people would choose.

My home is light and modern.

What do you think? Any ideas of where I should look for nice quality sofas with lowish arms and fixed back like this?

Anywhere to avoid?

Where are you supposed to buy sofas? Which place does high quality at a reasonable price?

What up to date sofas do you all have, if you think this is old fashioned?

I just went onto google. 5 of the best sofas they said. They recommend John Lewis. I looked at the 5. I didn't like any of them. They all look old fashioned. What's with the circular tube cushions on 2 of them. They all look 70's. Grim. None of them look squidy and comfy. And that vomit yellow is Disgusting.

Look at scp and habitat and conran shop. Look up scandi design
Word of warning, don't look at Conran Shop, or at least look but don't buy, they seem to be going under.... Shame because they used to be fab.

@Phonedrone I think it looks really comfy, and the white makes it look more modern than the pink version I used to have in the late 90s. I loved my sofas that were that style, they we do comfy, high enough backs to rest your head (I can't find any sofas with high backs any more) and the sloping arms were perfect as head rests to lie down and have a nap.

Please tell me what sofa it is and where it is from...!

Okay! How about this? Like say I don’t want a chesterfield style or something with high sided arms as we like to lay out with head on the arm.

I may call these people and ask for a virtual appointment. Some nice looking sofas.

I think they look awful but its your choice. You might think my sofas look awful!

I bought a lovely NEXT sofa last year (from the BHF shopGrin) and it is very supportive. I've also got a slightly firmer sofa that I bought from furniture village a few years ago. They both have cushion backs but its not an issue.

I actually think the colour has a lot to do with it here. If you look at the sofas in the darker options they look much nicer.

I know you’re not keen on DFS but we’ve had our last 2 corner sofas from there and they’ve lasted years, the first one was given to a family member and then passed on again and the one we have now we’ve had for 5 years and the cushions are only starting to look a bit deflated now (but we have scatter back so to be expected)

I massively recommend Alstons sofas. You customise with your choice of fabric, feet etc. They are really well made, ours are great after 10 years. In contrast our children have trashed the IKEA sofa in 3yrs.

I can highly recommend next for sofas! I have two. The one is 7 years old now and still in great condition, apart from the mess the kids have made of it...

On the website is a clearance section - there are LOADS on there right now!

Yes to Next, we have a next sofa, it is also good.

We don’t have loads of sofas even if it sounds like I hoard the things.

Sorry they look like they should be on the “free to collect” section on Gumtree. Literally. You can get these for free no problem, idea of paying for them is bizarre

We have similar but a reclining version.After a few years of sitting on a 'fashion' sofa we thought fuck it, we're going for comfort over style. Best decision we ever made, afternoon naps are now just fabulous Grin

They look lovely, but from experience the large corded pattern is impossible to clean. I’ve regretted my (very similar looking) sofas daily since I bought them.

I think so I'm afraid but who cares. Buy what you like. You might just be ahead of the curve with changing fashions anyway!
