Do these sofas look old fashioned?

I’m looking for new sofas, I really don’t want ones with loose cushioned backs or seats as they never look tidy and the teens end up taking the cushions off.

These look so comfortable and supportive but I’m not sure whether they look like something elderly people would choose.

My home is light and modern.

What do you think? Any ideas of where I should look for nice quality sofas with lowish arms and fixed back like this?

Anywhere to avoid?

Thanks!

Very sorry, but they look comfy.
But so dated.

Phonedrone · 26/02/2021 23:29

I’m exhausted at looking for sofas!

I want lowish arms that you can lay out and rest your head on.
Chenille would be lovely, nice and hard wearing and will not show up marks and stains.
Something that won’t look saggy and crap after 6 months.
Not those sofas on stick legs as the dogs toys will keep going under and it will be a pain.

I also like these but have heard bad things about Sofology, I’m trying to avoid SCS and DFS as they don’t last.

These are the perfect shape but are described as very soft and look as though they’ll looked wrecked and flat after a few months.

They are the Hotter shoe of the sofa world. Not stylish but probably good for you.

Nailed it!

Thecazelets · 26/02/2021 23:33

Ghastly.

Wondermule · 26/02/2021 23:33

@phoebemcpeepee ah glad I didn’t post in vain! Smile

LApprentiSorcier · 26/02/2021 23:37

Agree with everyone else - the Hotter Shoe comparison is one of the best analogies I've ever seen. Grin

This OP? Comes in lots of colours and I think the fabric is chenille.

MumUndone · 26/02/2021 23:43

Yes they're old fashioned.

DenisetheMenace · 26/02/2021 23:45

Don’t like them, sorry. Nondescript.

Thistles24 · 26/02/2021 23:48

I have sofas similar to this, and I love them!! No other sofa that I’ve sat on has compared- the seat is nice and deep, the back is high and supportive and they still look new despite be big 10 years old and used by a family of 5. The “hotter shoe of the sofa world” comment made me laugh, because it’s spot on! But comfort is more important to me than the look of a sofa, so it doesn’t upset me that everyone on here doesn’t like them!

DahliaMacNamara · 26/02/2021 23:48

Fuck it, I'm going to stick my neck out and say I think they're fine. Maybe not in that colour if you have dogs. Comfort wins over dubious ideas of aesthetics and fashion for me every time. And actually I don't know anyone in real life who perches on some daft angular effort because they don't want their house to look a bit 90s.

PickAChew · 26/02/2021 23:50

They look rather 90s. And would soon look grubby.

Ricebubbles2 · 26/02/2021 23:51

Comfortable but dated
Second is much nice and would be more spacious
I have one similar it is comfortable in a durable fabric and I turn the cushions maybe once a month, also nice to nap or lie down on.
I think the one of the house beautiful site is nice but fabric and arms look less quality and less durable these kinds are often resold second hand where I live.
I love my couches similar to sofology photo they are wide and so comfortable
You need to sit on them to find and narrow your search

17CherryTreeLane · 26/02/2021 23:51

I have a sofa from DFS from 2005. Still comfy and looks good!

LeaveMyDamnJam · 26/02/2021 23:53

Please don’t buy them. You will have years of regret if you do.

Strugglingtodomybest · 26/02/2021 23:53

I think they look really comfy but I don't like the colour. I have absolutely no idea about household fashion though, so maybe not the best person to be giving advice!

sorryforswearing · 26/02/2021 23:55

Actually I have similar sofas to these and they are the most uncomfortable ever. It’s not having an arm to lean against that’s the worst. I can’t imagine why everyone thinks they will be super comfortable. They won’t. Can’t wait to replace them.

katy1213 · 26/02/2021 23:58

They don't look all that comfy got granny chairs - too bouncy to get out of.

SoundWithoutAName · 26/02/2021 23:58

I like the style but would definitely go a much darker colour

katy1213 · 26/02/2021 23:59

for granny chairs, I mean

crystalcherry87 · 26/02/2021 23:59

Yes it's the shape.

partyatthepalace · 27/02/2021 00:01

They do look old fashioned. Loaf and sofa.com are good for comfort

M0rT · 27/02/2021 00:02

If I wasn't so short I would be asking where you saw them to get an armchair for myself!
I have very "in" leather furniture.
It is uncomfortable to the point I minimise the time I spend in my sitting room! Don't be me....

SwedishEdith · 27/02/2021 00:06

They are old-fashioned looking but having failed to find a really comfortable but stylish looking sofa for years, I'd be tempted to go for something similar now.
