Do these sofas look old fashioned?

I’m looking for new sofas, I really don’t want ones with loose cushioned backs or seats as they never look tidy and the teens end up taking the cushions off.

These look so comfortable and supportive but I’m not sure whether they look like something elderly people would choose.

My home is light and modern.

What do you think? Any ideas of where I should look for nice quality sofas with lowish arms and fixed back like this?

Yes. Plus quite impractical but l have 3 cats and a grubby fiancé!!!

If I'm honest, they do look a bit dated. It's the obvious cushioning divide on them and those attached arm cushions - - very 1990s in vibe. I agree they appear comfortable. My 82 year old MIL has sofas in a similar style and they are extremely supportive. They could be improved with the right cushions (or throws if that fits your style). I suppose ultimately it's whether you value style over substance. FWIW I would rather a comfortable sofa than a stylish one.

My mother in law has this style too. Sorry but I do think they look old fashioned and bland. But they also look comfy.

I don’t like this sofa at all. Look at NEXT they have nice sofas.

I’ve had my sofa for nearly 30 years and even I think that sofa is old-fashioned.

Ask yourself what is most important to you: other people thinking your sofa looks a bit old fashioned
Or having a really comfortable sofa that you like.

If you would rather have a bad back than a comfy sofa, go with the first option.

I like a high backed sofa but I don't think they're as stylish as the more common lower backed ones. I need to be comfy when I sit down though so old fashioned for me all the way!

This is the best comparison I've ever seen. I dont think they're particularly old as such, just boring but They do look comfy though. I couldn't sit on them, they give me the fear.

They aren't the floral, pastel styles from the 70's, but the style and shape is still very dated IMO. They certainly arent what I'd think of as being modern!

Yep, it does look dated. My Mil has something very similar, its really very comfortable.

If you buy quality sofas even those with loose cushions will stay in shape. The picture you attached is really old fashioned, sorry.

They look like grandparent furniture to me. I'm 30. My gran had this kind of sofa. Go for a formal back version of the cushion back ones you like. And add scatter cushions and throws. I quite like the button back look with nice feet on show. Anything simple really.

They definitely look like something from an old people’s home. You could make them look nicer with a throw and some nice cushions but I guess that defies the point. Also if you’re worried about messiness I’m not sure a cream sofa with a couple of teens is the best idea.

Is the same sofa not available in any other colours/ fabrics?
