Had your jab? Care to compare side effects?

I had the AZ jab a couple of days ago - feel like I've got the worst hangover. Ever. Very tired. Sore arm.

Someone I know had tge Pfizer jab and had no side effects at all.

I had the Pfizer, arm but sore and hard to lift. Had fatigue and felt quite grotty for a few days, would have stayed in bed if I didn't have children. But well worth it to be vaccinated.

@tobee

I heard that you shouldn't take pain relief before or after. I'm not sure if it's true? Seems harsh if you're feeling bad but maybe it would mess up the immune response?
I told the nurse of my intention to take paracetamol and she agreed with that: you should definitely take pain relief, it won’t affect the immune response at all. I had the AZ 15 hours ago. Slight sore arm and feeling a wee bit nauseous. I’ve taken 3 doses of paracetamol in that time. I don’t think I’m out of the woods yet, as I’ve read that it can take longer for side effects to kick in. I plan to take it easy today.

The doctor who administered my initial AZ vaccination a week ago advised taking paracetamol to help with any side effects.

The leaflet "COVID-19 vaccination - a guide for older adults" which was sent out with letters inviting older age groups to make appointments at vaccination hubs also recommends paracetamol, as does the NHS vaccination information site (under section headed "COVID-19 vaccine side effects"):

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/coronavirus-vaccine/

A group of us at work went for AZ whilst on duty. 7 out of 8 of us very ill afterwards overnight. Feverish, nausea, aching all over, migraines. Felt better couple of days later.

anditgoeson · 23/02/2021 09:55

I got told to take paracetamol too. I feel weak and ache today but definitely better than yesterday. Im O-.

Seeline · 23/02/2021 10:19

DH and I both had AZ midday on Saturday. His arm is a bit sore, and he said he felt a bit under the weather.

My arm is really painful - the site is still hot, red and raised. I barely slept Saturday night - chills/sweats, couldn't lie on my arm, real pains in joints and bones and headache. Sunday and yesterday felt bad despite constant paracetamol - constant headache, sore eyes, bouts of nausea and general lethargy.

Today is looking more hopeful!

I hope things aren't worse second time round. I am fairly certain I haven't had covid. Have really stuck to the rules. Both WFH. DD has been into school when allowed, but hasn't had to isolate as a close contact. Have really only been out for the supermarket shop if click and collect not available, so seems unlikely.

purdypuma · 23/02/2021 14:12

Pfizer BioNTech about 3 wks ago...enlarged lymph node on my right hand side, looked it up & 1 in 100. Other than that just felt tired for a couple of days. Not put me off having second dose though.

Gossipgirl2 · 23/02/2021 14:20

Had the Pfizer yesterday only side effect so far is a sore arm.

Timeforredwine · 23/02/2021 14:35

Had the Pfizer about 5 days ago, have had definite muscle aches mainly sane side if injection, chills and sweating but also I never get headaches and have had headache for past 24 hours like hangover one. Exhausted but have taken paracetomol a few times since injection and just getting on with it. But not looking forward to 2nd one now but better to be protected.

TheByngster · 23/02/2021 21:34

30 hours post my AZ. Have definitely felt off colour today, a cross between a hangover and PMT, but no fever or rigors.

starfish4 · 23/02/2021 21:50

I had AZ and felt a bit sick in the afternoon, and then tired and a bit headachy for a week. I really wasn't that bad.

Two friends had it and were ok. DH had it 11 hours ago, says he's fine at the moment.

wallyrag · 23/02/2021 22:20

@purdypuma where is your raised lymph node? Mine is on the right side of my neck

tonyunclejohnny · 23/02/2021 22:45

I had Pfizer end of jan sore injection site for a day or so otherwise ok.
A colleague had the AZ and was ill for a week with temp, shivers, bone aching and headaches., they were unlucky as the only one in the team to have had the AZ everyone else got Pfizer.

TheByngster · 24/02/2021 07:19

40 hours post AZ and my arm has just started to hurt. Like I’ve been punched HARD. Also pain in my armpit and that side of my neck.

LadyPenelope68 · 24/02/2021 07:24

Pfizer for myself and eldest son (22), neither of us had any symptoms. However, since having the jab 5 weeks ago, I’ve had 3 mini periods - I’m menopausal and haven’t had a period for 2 1/2 years. Looking online, there are reports coming from Israel to disruption of menstrual cycle, so I’m not sure if this for me is actually a side effect or not. Spoke to GP about it and they asked me to report it as a possible side effect.

NewjobOldme · 24/02/2021 07:25

I've had both doses of Pfizer. After the first dose my arm was sore for about 24 hours and I was a little tired but fine within 24 hours.
After second dose I woke up feeling dreadful. Muscle aches, exhausted, nauseated. Lasted less than 48 hours.

LadyPenelope68 · 24/02/2021 07:26

The Nurse who vaccinated me advised me to take Paracetamol as soon as I could.

MrsBungle · 24/02/2021 07:30

I had Pfizer last week. I had a really sore arm. I was surprised how sore it was and I took paracetamol. I’ve had loads of jabs and never had a sore arm before. The next afternoon I felt tired and took another paracetamol for a sore head. By evening I was totally fine. Sore arm gone by the next evening too.

JemimaMuddledUp · 24/02/2021 07:32

Had AZ on the 13th. Started feeling ill on 14th - tiredness, nausea, aching muscles, joint pain, headache, dizziness. By lunchtime it felt like full on flu.

Spent a good chunk of the week in bed, 5 days off sick from work. By Day 8 I was feeling a bit better but still had the headache. Went back to work on Day 9 and seem to be mostly OK again now.

Side effects were horrible, but I'd have it again in a heartbeat.

I was told to take paracetamol if needed afterwards. Not had mine yet but have an appointment.

Wow..very scary.
OrangeSamphire · 24/02/2021 18:03

Had Pfizer first thing this morning.

Arm started to ache a bit by lunchtime and now feels leaden and sore to lift. And by late afternoon I felt very tired, heavy limbed, but not unwell.

Will see how I go!

Angel2702 · 24/02/2021 18:09

I had AZ no side effects at all other than heavy feeling in my arm for an hour or so. No soreness either. DH had Pfizer yesterday nothing other than a sore arm.

DinosApple · 24/02/2021 18:52

AZ, I had the shakes, shivers, sweats, temperature, fuggy brain, nausea. Worst at 6hrs post vaccine, and the symptoms had entirely subsided 4 days afterwards. I certainly couldn't have gone to work for 48 hours.

Bloody glad I had the jab though, and will hopefully get the second one on a Friday.

Auldspinster · 24/02/2021 19:07

AZ yesterday at 5pm. Sore arm and fatigue initially with a bit of nausea and felt dog tired this morning. Took a half day and now feverish and achy. B+.
