Just head that Prince Charles has been to visit him in hospital due to ‘exceptional circumstances’. He’s never visited him in hospital before and apparently left looking emotional. It doesn’t look good does it? I wonder how this will play out given the pandemic?

@31RooCambon

when is he 100?
June

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz

In the photo on DM website of him leaving his eyes are full. How incredibly sad.
I am getting a sense of Groundhog Day.

Someone will be coming on again soon to say he was crying.

His eyes look a little watery. He is wearing a mask. Even the Fail only say 'emotional'.

Biscoffaddict · 20/02/2021 18:45

@SixesAndEights

Must be horrible to arrive to visit your father who isn't well and have cameras up your nose.

I agree. Especially a close up of you when you're upset. But then, UK press are almost universally quite scummy.

I’d imagine the press were tipped off about Charles visit.

@CeibaTree

I wouldn't wish for any family to lose a loved one, but he is 99! Not many people live that long, PC and his siblings have been so lucky to have both their parents well into old age themselves.
Agree By the time I was 40 I had lost both parents and a child.
Pimlicojo · 20/02/2021 18:45

Those photos of Prince Charles are really intrusive. Your dad is your dad no matter how old he is, and how old you are.

daisyjgrey · 20/02/2021 18:46

He's 99! People don't love forever. It's sad when someone dies but surely at 99 it's not exactly a shock.

Crunchymum · 20/02/2021 18:46

EdithWeston · 20/02/2021 18:46

Princess Anne has in the past visited Dof Ed in hospital on a few occasions, so it's not unprecedented to have a visit.

I thought it might be Prince Charles as he's had both covid and his first jab, so is the safest option.

SunshineCake · 20/02/2021 18:48

@yeOldeTrout

It would be nice to have a thread wishing PP a speedy recovery.
Not that he will see it but I wish him a speedy recovery. I think about the Queen in these situations. Over 80 years of loving him. Can you imagine all that and then being alone Sad.
Crunchymum · 20/02/2021 18:48

@MrsMackesy

A previous thread on this has already been deleted today.
The OP of that thread asked for it to be deleted (lots of posters complained / found it tasteless!)
kurtrussellsbeard · 20/02/2021 18:49

His eyes aren't brimming with tears in a crying sense. His eyes have looked like that for at least the last 6 months. It's a medical thing I'd think.

HopeClearwater · 20/02/2021 18:49

As someone else said, the guy walked into hospital. No need to measure him up just yet.

Weirdly it is. When someone lives to that age the non logical bit of your brain cons you that they’ll live for ever.
EdithWeston · 20/02/2021 18:50

@Sparklingbrook

So I will be hiding threads on here when he has passed on...

There will be a race to start the first thread I would imagine.

@mnhq

I think it might be premature to be thinking along these lines right now.

But if you have a prepping manual for 'how to moderate during major national events and crises' would you consider having a standing order that everything goes straight into the topic?

(Possibly including thepis thread!)

@StanfordPines

It’s so wrong that someone cannot visit an ill elderly relative without having to worry about who might be looking and the message that sends out.
They are a family of great privilege and power. This is part of the deal.

The reality is that the palace PR team have sent out press releases earlier in the weak playing down the seriousness of this and that it was precautionary. Now Charles has visited the hospital so the press are going to be all over it either because it is more serious than they are letting on, or it is a case of rules being bent for the toffs. Like many things, they invite this speculation upon themselves.

eyes brimming with tears
I don't usually grace the Fail but I checked this when someone claimed he was crying on the previous deleted thread. I do not see this. His eyes are a little watery and he is wearing a mask. Wearing a mask makes my nose run and sometimes my eyes water. Unfortunately I have to wear PPE a lot.

Chailatteplease · 20/02/2021 18:51

My grandfather is almost 100. I will be absolutely devastated when he leaves us.

Such thoughtless comments on this thread. He’s still someone’s husband, father and grandfather. Have some tact.

poptartqueen · 20/02/2021 18:51

Even allowing for the Prince of Wales being accorded something most people will not be

Is that really the case? In my experience, a family member is able to see a relative in the last stages of end of life care.

Bluntness100 · 20/02/2021 18:52

Those pictures are so so invasive. Charles does have watery eyes anyway, the bloke is 72. So it could be just normal. The media intrusion is distasteful

MadinMarch · 20/02/2021 18:52

Just a thought, but if he dies, it'll be really difficult for the RF to choose exactly which 30 people will be able to attend his funeral.
This will be such a great dilemma for the RF, but their choices could be the making or breaking of them.

SunshineCake · 20/02/2021 18:52

@DareIask

Won't Harry have to self isolate if he does travel here?
No. Harry will be tested before leaving and on arrival but the royals have diplomatic immunity type status so no need to self isolate.

Charles hasn't seen his dad since Christmas so maybe he just needed to see him.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 20/02/2021 18:52

I wish PP a speedy recovery and hope he is comfortable while he is in hospital.
