Just head that Prince Charles has been to visit him in hospital due to ‘exceptional circumstances’. He’s never visited him in hospital before and apparently left looking emotional. It doesn’t look good does it? I wonder how this will play out given the pandemic?

@AlternativePerspective

The morbid speculation on here is revolting.

Even if people have had loved ones in similar conditions, you have no idea what is going on unless you are actually there, because one persons life is never the same as another’s.

When I was in hospital a couple of years ago there were 90 plus year olds who were very seriously ill and yet perfectly conscious.

He has a stent following a blocked artery. Developing an infection would therefore already make him susceptible to endocarditis or at the very least for his heart to be weakened. It therefore stands to reason that he would be transferred to a major cardiac hospital.

If I get any kind of e.g. chest infection I am to contact my cardiologist, and if things get worse I am to be blue-lighted to that hospital where if necessary. Will be transferred to Papworth. This is the way things progress. That doesn’t mean I will be unconscious or not have capacity, these things take on different forms.

I was perfectly conscious the night I had to be defibrilated and then rushed to ICU, and I had conversations with the nurses, and when I asked for sedation I was told I couldn’t have any because if I lost consciousness they needed to know if it was because of my low BP or because of sedation therefore I had to be awake while they inserted neck lines, central lines, etc etc. And when i asked if I was going to die they couldn’t give me a straight answer.

So stop speculating on someone’s condition you know absolutely nothing about other than from the vulture press who give half the facts and then make up the rest.

That’s a lot of unnecessary and irrelevant talk in there for someone who is revolted...

Prince Philip is the Grandpa of the nation, it’s ok to want to know about how he’s doing. Due to secrecy/ privacy we are left to infer what limited information we are given.

I don’t know, he's always been a bit of a tool hasn't he?

You lecture on morbid speculation and then go on to speculate about his situation in more detail than the majority of posters on the thread?

That’s highly amusing

Sparklingbrook · 03/03/2021 19:12

I don’t know, he's always been a bit of a tool hasn't he?

I wouldn't quite put it quite like that but generally there have been negative comments about him and his actions or general disinterest.

Peaseblossom22 · 03/03/2021 19:33

I don’t know, he's always been a bit of a tool hasn't he?

It’s true that he has often opened his mouth before engaging brain. BUT he was talking about climate change in the 1960s , he was Chair of the WWF when people thought it was a crackpot idea to save wild animals from extinction. He founded the Duke of Edinburgh award which has become an institution . He had a very successful Navy career and he gave it up to walk three paces behind his wife for years.

And this was his own view on the monarchy in 1969

‘It is a complete misconception to imagine that the monarchy exists in the interests of the monarch. It doesn't. It exists in the interests of the people. If at any time any nation decides that the system is unacceptable, then it is up to them to change it.’

Maybe that time has now come ..

Sparklingbrook · 03/03/2021 19:36

I remember all the stuff when he had that car accident in 2019. People weren't this kind towards him back then.

stairway · 03/03/2021 19:53

He’s seriously ill this time though so it’s different.

The grandpa of the nation ? Confused

yeh, didn't he crash in to a pregnant woman. Or am I having false memory syndrome now.
Sparklingbrook · 03/03/2021 20:07

@Number3BigCupOfTea I can't remember the exact details but something like that, I'd have to Google it-was it the passenger? He wasn't the nation's Grandpa then that's for sure.

Or not.
stairway · 03/03/2021 20:18

I think you will all be very sad when he goes.

stairway · 03/03/2021 20:21

Sparklingbrook You don’t need to take my word for it, he is 99 with an infection that hasn’t cleared and heart issues. It’s serious but hopefully he will pull through.

SugarfreeBlitz · 03/03/2021 20:22

Probably since everyone watched The Crown?

Roussette · 03/03/2021 20:25

I think you w'ill all be very sad when he goes

Why do you say that? And why do you call him 'the nation's grandpa'

It just sounds weird.
He's a 99 year old man.

I don't think you understood what I meant. But it's fine don't worry.
stairway · 03/03/2021 20:32

Roussette because it will be an end of an era really. Just reminds me of my own grandparents passing as they are of the same generation. I think there is a fondness for him in this country even though we all know who isn’t perfect.

Roussette · 03/03/2021 20:36

Agree, an end of an era. But what an age!

Is it a fondness for him or a fondness for the Queen and the knowledge that this is her husband of close to 75 years? I’m not sure. Either way, for many they will never remember a time without Philip by the Queen’s side. Even when he retired, there was still plenty of sightings and columns in the paper.

A lot of people like and respect the Queen. They are fond of her.

PP has been fairly famous for having no time for bs - which this sentimental bilge is (among the entities of which he is not grandfather are the nation and the York princesses).

I don’t understand the York reference here?
Sparklingbrook · 04/03/2021 07:46

Thanks for saying that @CormoranStrike, I didn't like to ask. Is he not Beatrice and Eugenie's grandfather? Confused
