Prince Philip

Just head that Prince Charles has been to visit him in hospital due to ‘exceptional circumstances’. He’s never visited him in hospital before and apparently left looking emotional. It doesn’t look good does it? I wonder how this will play out given the pandemic?

theThreeofWeevils that is how he will be described when he does go. Hopefully not yet.

BilboBercow · 04/03/2021 07:48

Jesus almost 1000 comments. Seriously the man is 99 years old and not a universally liked royal. If he dies it will hardly be a tragedy.

CormoranStrike · 04/03/2021 07:49

@Sparklingbrook

Thanks for saying that *@CormoranStrike*, I didn't like to ask. Is he not Beatrice and Eugenie's grandfather? Confused
I suspect that poster is suggesting he is not.

ImagIne any other family - say one in your street, or a distant relative of yours - where people speculated if the oldest family member was indeed the father of his children or his son was the father of the grandchildren.

Awful really.

I flippin' hope not! The papers will look pretty stupid if they pull that stunt.

theThreeofWeevils · 04/03/2021 08:10

If you think that 'awful' speculation on that sort of thing doesn't happen quite a lot in/about 'other' families you must have a rather sheltered social life.
The resemblance between Andrew and the late Ear of Caernarvon is striking.

theThreeofWeevils · 04/03/2021 08:10

Earl, even. Not Ear.

derxa · 04/03/2021 08:16

@theThreeofWeevils

Prince Philip is the Grandpa of the nation PP has been fairly famous for having no time for bs - which this sentimental bilge is (among the entities of which he is not grandfather are the nation and the York princesses).
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Herbert,_7th_Earl_of_Carnarvon How lovely of you. Your username suits you.
Anne1958 · 04/03/2021 08:27

I’m pretty sure Prince Phillip would have no interest whatsoever in being the grandfather of the nation. And quite rightly so.

OverweightPidgeon · 04/03/2021 08:39

I can imagine some poor sod at BBC repeating to themselves ‘don’t push the button, don’t push the button ,
Oh shit , I pushed the button ‘

Lockdownbear · 04/03/2021 08:43

Ok we all know the BBC has obituaries for all the senior royals. I imagine they revisit them and update them every few years.

Do you think the Royals themselves have any say in what's in them? Or have had a preview?

LoveYourUsername · 04/03/2021 08:54

No one is universally liked.

No one has said it will be a tragedy when he dies/

Why do you need to say that?

I think most people think he's interesting partly because he takes no crap from anyone and speaks his mind.

stairway · 04/03/2021 09:20

It doesn’t matter if Prince Philip would want to be described as such, it is how he is viewed. That is why everyone is interested in his health despite being extremely old.

TheCatWithTheFluffyTail · 04/03/2021 09:47

The BBC say he has had a successful procedure and the “palace said the duke would remain in hospital for treatment, rest and recuperation for a number of days.”

Looks like the obituaries can stay unused for now.

I couldn’t agree with you more. In fact I think calling a persons parentage into doubt is one of those things that should never pass a persons lips.

Roussette · 04/03/2021 10:50

"I can imagine some poor sod at BBC repeating to themselves ‘don’t push the button, don’t push the button ,

That did make me laugh. I can be in a social situation and think 'do not say it do not say it do not say it'... then
'shit, I've just said it'

I can't believe he's had another procedure. And apparently he has regular blood transfusions to perk him up. You can bet your bottom dollar none of this would be available to Joe Public. But hey... that's the territory with a RF I suppose...
As long as he is comfortable that's all that is important.

ajandjjmum · 04/03/2021 11:04

And apparently he has regular blood transfusions to perk him up. You can bet your bottom dollar none of this would be available to Joe Public.

Although I haven't heard the rumour about regular blood transfusions, of course this would be available to the public if needed to maintain health. Please don't get your dislike of the RF get in the way of fact - and the wonderful service given to so many by the NHS.

Lockdownbear · 04/03/2021 11:19

Actually some older people do end up with regular transfusions.

CormoranStrike · 04/03/2021 11:27

I know one 86 year old who has regular transfusions, so it is clearly a known and used treatment.

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/03/2021 11:46

Where did you hear about the transfusions @Roussette?

SunbathingDragon · 04/03/2021 11:47

Transfusions are a thing and can massively help. They are often better tolerated and more effective that other ways of getting back to good health. Totally reasonable to expect Joe Public to get exemplary care from the NHS and even more so if it was paid privately.

If he is well enough to be considered likely to recover and a quality of life, it will be spent on him (and others his age/health). I agree there is arguable a question about whether it’s the best use of NHS resources but that’s for another day.

Roussette · 04/03/2021 11:50

Please don't get your dislike of the RF get in the way of fact - and the wonderful service given to so many by the NHS

And you please stop making such assumptions. I don't think you can deny that PP will be getting the very best care available ever. The NHS are beyond brilliant and I take offence at you suggesting I think otherwise.

As I said before, all that can be hoped for at this stage, is that he is comfortable.

Stratfordplace · 04/03/2021 12:03

The NHS may be beyond brilliant if you can ever access their brilliant care. A respiratory clinic recently sent my very sick uncle home from a clinical appointment he had waited for, saying he was ok. He wasn’t, he had a massive tumour in his left lung which he died from 3 weeks later.

VinylDetective · 04/03/2021 12:07

My dad was given a new hip at 99. The NHS doesn’t have an age limit.

peak2021 · 04/03/2021 12:38

Hope he gets better soon.
