I hope he's alright. I suppose at his age it's always a worry. I thought that when he retired a few years ago that he may have health worries, so I wonder if stuff has caught up with him.

Get a card from his wife? Jeez some people are easily impressed. I suspect he doesn't give a fig!

Hope he feels better but to be fair, he's shy of a 100 years old. It's not news or a surprise. Family will miss him, yes but he's lived well and long.

Earlybirdmissedtheworm · 17/02/2021 16:17

Wishing him better. @Bluntness100 when was he diagnosed, this is the first I've heard of him having cancer?

BarbaraofKent · 17/02/2021 16:20

He has cancer? Since when?

I don’t believe he is just in for an observation. Under the circumstances, he could have that at home from a selection of private doctors. Philip isn’t the sort to go into hospital on a whim, especially so in the middle of a pandemic.

Hopefully he has had enough time to have his second vaccine and has built up an immunity to make his stay at hospital safer. I wish him well.

Gadzookery · 17/02/2021 16:23

I wish him well too.

Eyjafjallajokulldottir · 17/02/2021 16:23

He has prostate cancer doesn't he? Like a lot of old men.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 17/02/2021 16:25

I hope he's discharged soon! Last thing he needs is to get COVID in hospital.
I'd live to see him reach his 100th birthday & get his card from the Queen. I would love to see them both as they both have a good sense of humour.

Not to mention, without sounding callous (as I do really like him) a funeral, in London, if the magnitude he deserves, would be an absolute disaster right now.

BlueTimes · 17/02/2021 16:25

There have been several rumours of him having prostate or bladder cancer but the last I heard, the Palace denied him having prostate cancer (not sure if they specifically ruled out any other type of cancer).

Eyjafjallajokulldottir · 17/02/2021 16:26

Tbf if I had cancer I wouldn't want the whole world knowing either.

BlobbyYouTwat · 17/02/2021 16:27

Couldn't give a shit.

GerardWay123 · 17/02/2021 16:29

Well no one knows, but I would imagine his family would rather he passed away at home if there is no hope.

RatherBeRiding · 17/02/2021 16:31

Couldn't give a shit.
Shame you came on this thread then, isn't it?
ancientgran · 17/02/2021 16:31

@Lochmorlich

He's an amazing man. Considering the era he was born in he's put up with a lot from politicians and the royal household who often treated him badly. His dm was an incredible woman too helping Jews during WW2 .
She was very brave but he had a sad lonely childhood and was basically alone in the UK at school with little or no contact with either of his parents. That was why he was so close to his uncle, Lord Mountbatten, as he spent many school holidays with him.

Not his mother's fault, she suffered with mental illness but I'm not sure what his father's excuse was.

OneFamilyToRuleUsAll · 17/02/2021 16:35

His childhood was sad and he equally treated Charles appallingly. Hope that cycle has stopped.

FossilisedFanny · 17/02/2021 16:36

I wish him well and hope he is comfortable.

peak2021 · 17/02/2021 16:43

Much as I am glad I never worked with him, I would not wish ill-health on him and hope he recovers. I expect he has been a great support to the Queen.

BettysButtons · 17/02/2021 16:48

@Whatflavourjellybabyisnice

I hope he gets well soon... always loved his humour Grin
I hope he is comfortable and wish him well. I have never loved his 'humour' though... :D
Tullyjune · 17/02/2021 16:50

I realised that I am basing everything I know and think about PP from my knowledge of The Crown. I feel like I intimately know him, but of course I have no clue what his life was really like.

I do hope he gets home though. They wouldn’t have sent him to hospital on a whim currently.

User7458 · 17/02/2021 16:52

I hope he gets well enough to see his 100 birthday in

AnotherSoddingWalk · 17/02/2021 16:53

I've always found his bluntness endearing. I hope he is able to go home.

CocoPark · 17/02/2021 16:57

I'm a big fan of the DoE, really hope he makes a full recovery.

I hope the irascible old chap sees his 100th too... I too love his very un PC humour.

Dad was taking some pictures at BP and Prince Philip was getting exasperated at having to pose in a relaxed way with everyone, and said :

''We don't AWLLLL want one!'' 😂

LunaHeather · 17/02/2021 17:01

I've met him

People asked me if he said anything racist to me

He didn't

There are a few things I liked about him but the deadly virus comment was always my favourite. I bet history will try to hide it. They shouldn't,
I know exactly what he means.

PhilCornwall1 · 17/02/2021 17:01

@AliceSprings123

VelveteenChair, he's 99! and his name's Philip not Methuselah ! Hope he recovers well, tho and is soon back home.
If he doesn't, I'm sure we'll get a day off for the funeral.
Biscoffaddict · 17/02/2021 17:01

You don’t admit frail 99 year olds to hospital in a pandemic unless it’s serious.

Operation Forth Bridge anyone?
