I hope he's alright. I suppose at his age it's always a worry. I thought that when he retired a few years ago that he may have health worries, so I wonder if stuff has caught up with him.

OP posts:
itsgettingwierd · 17/02/2021 17:29
@oakleaffy he said: “In the event that I am reincarnated, I would like to return as a deadly virus, to contribute something to solving overpopulation.”
Well let's hope he survives then.

One pandemic a century is enough!

And does he have cancer? I've never heard that although prostate cancer isn't unusual in men this age and I'm sure I read Captain sir Tom Moore had it for the last 8 years if his life?

CoronaIsWatching · 17/02/2021 17:30

He probably read the Abolish the Monarchy thread

cantkeepawayforever · 17/02/2021 17:31

@oakleaffy

I'm sure people gave as good as they got with him.

He was referred to as ''The Bubble'' which he found funny.

Not when he was Chancellor, no. If you are a BAME student and he is Chancellor, meeting you at a formal occasion at which he is guest of honour, how can you 'give as good as you got'? The power imbalance is extreme.

What the victims were, in general, was impeccably polite and well-mannered (though often deeply shocked and hurt). Something he could have learned from.

I don’t wish him any harm and hope he makes 100. He’s someone’s father, grandfather and great grandfather so he’s loved even if he is known for his verbal diarrhoea.

But you know, you gotta go sometime and this could be the time. Those royals have a bloody good innings and one of extreme privilege so whatever happens he drew the long straw in life.

FossilisedFanny · 17/02/2021 17:39

@oakleaffy is your dad AE ?

cantkeepawayforever · 17/02/2021 17:41

I would add that, whatever his faults, I do not wish him ill in any way, and hope that if his illness is serious he is able to be made comfortable and treated with dignity and compassion, and if possible that he can have the comfort of his family around him at the end.

MarshaBradyo · 17/02/2021 17:42

@AliceSprings123

VelveteenChair, he's 99! and his name's Philip not Methuselah ! Hope he recovers well, tho and is soon back home.
Ha at this, not at him being ill but we do seem to expect a lot from 99 year olds these days.
Devlesko · 17/02/2021 17:47

He's certainly having a good innings, and of course they have the best healthcare available not like us commoners.
Is it lizards that last for over a century? Can't remember the animal.

he said: “In the event that I am reincarnated, I would like to return as a deadly virus, to contribute something to solving overpopulation.”

He said this?

So he's quite happy for millions of people to die in order to improve the overpopulation stats?

Lovely.

It's saying that when you had 4 of them that's the only issue for me.

probably an example of the aforesaid humour

Thing is, if he did a "sponsored walk" around his back garden, 100 laps would be the equivalent of Lands End to John o'Groats!

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 17/02/2021 18:00

i hope he pulls through

Emmelina · 17/02/2021 18:05

He has been looking very frail lately, hopefully he is able to fight off whatever ails him.

partyofsixteen · 17/02/2021 18:06

I can’t get hysterical about a 99 year old being unwell. He’s lived an incredibly pampered and mollycoddled life whatever happens. He’s been lucky. It’s a privilege to last that long.

B1rthis · 17/02/2021 18:07

I do like his quick wit.
With most hospital policies banning visitors unless the patient is paliative, I do hope he gets discharged soon so he can get back to living out his remaining years at home.

I don’t think anyone, anywhere, is getting hysterical.
OneFamilyToRuleUsAll · 17/02/2021 18:08

Can't believe he said that about being a deadly virus. He shouldn't have taken the Covid jab then. Should have seen it as his reincarnated relative coming to say hello and reminding him of his wish?

ThatDoesntBelongInAIBU · 17/02/2021 18:10

Didn’t take long for the perpetually offended to pop in

JinglingHellsBells · 17/02/2021 18:10

The Queen Mum lived to 102.

SirVixofVixHall · 17/02/2021 18:11

Very much hope he is home again soon and gets to celebrate his century.

profpoopsnagle · 17/02/2021 18:12

I really hope he makes it.

If he doesn't, they will pull all the normal telly scheduling for days.

24 hour coverage on his life + lockdown restrictions + Winter weather? There will be no escape.

PicsInRed · 17/02/2021 18:12

A reporter on Sky news just claimed he'd been a "picture of health" lately. Bizarrely untrue.

Is she trying to convince us or herself? I mean, we do have eyes.

JinglingHellsBells · 17/02/2021 18:15

I do hate it when people say 'They had a good innings'.

Yes, but....most people are someones Mum, Dad, partner etc.
It's incredibly dismissive.

It doesn't take away the grief when they die, no matter how old they are.
