Prince Philip in Hospital

I hope he's alright. I suppose at his age it's always a worry. I thought that when he retired a few years ago that he may have health worries, so I wonder if stuff has caught up with him.

If the lockdown goes on I might be driven to watching it. I'm not that interested in the RF to be honest. I suppose as I've roughly lived the same amount of time as QE has been queen I am mildly interested in her and DofE, maybe more aware of them? The younger ones don't seem very relevant to me and the Diana hysteria really turned me off the whole thing.

My father was in the Royal Navy during WWII, so I suppose I admire PP's war service and believe he deserved the reputation for his naval service. My father was quite a harsh judge, he was always very dismissive of JFK's reputation as a war hero for example, so I accept his judgement of PP.

I do think the DofE Award is something he deserves to be proud of.

@CheltenhamLady

Would Prince Charles have visited from 100 miles away if he wasn't seriously ill? Or would he just think 'sod the lockdown' I am off to see Dad?
I drove nearly 400 miles in one day to visit my aunt in a care home just before lockdown. If she'd been in hospital during lockdown I'd have done the same. Believe me at my age a 200 mile drive, dementia visit and 200 mile drive home isn't much fun.
CheltenhamLady · 21/02/2021 16:12

My point was that unless he was seriously ill it isn't allowed under current rules. Would he have broken the rules given his public persona?

I think it is reasonable to say a 99 year old being in hospital is serious. Being 99 is serious in itself.

when the pandemic first reached uk i was worried about Prince Philip, and any funeral that may have to take place regards him

@FoxyTheFox

it's the fact that the average member of the public can't even expect a bare minimum of medical care atm.

This isn't my experience either. I've had surgery during lockdown, as have two family members, and DC routine paediatric appointments have carried on as normal too.

I'm glad you've had a more positive experience regarding yours and your family's health care needs.

The week before last, we had to make 4 calls to the end of life care hub as we were unable to manage dad's pain with the painkillers we had (paracetamol and oramorph).

No-one would come out. The best the doctor would do was send a prescription to the chemist for morphine in a different format, this despite us having a supply of end of life meds in the house that we are supposed to be able to put in a call for someone to come out and administer by injection.
We had paramedics attend eventually, after nearly 3 hours but which time we'd miraculously gotten him under control ourselves.

Neither Dad nor Mum want him to go into a home as unlike the more privileged we won't be able to swan in and about to visit whenever the whim takes us.

I wish Prince Phillip no ill will but it's very difficult to reconcile what we and no doubt thousands of others are going through whilst as usually the wealthy and upper class get to make up the rules as they go along.

FoxyTheFox · 21/02/2021 20:48

It's all wrong @MintyCedric, the level of care should be the same across the board and I'm sorry you and your family are having to go through this Flowers

He wasn’t one of the first people I thought of tbh.

Either or I guess.

You seem very invested in the RF - they would rank about bottom in the list of people I was worried about!

They don't send telegrams anymore. It's a very royal looking card! My grandad got one last year“

Saw a lovely piece a while ago about a lady who was 105, I think.
She’d written to the Palace complaining that on each card, her Madge was wearing the same frock, she was fed up with seeing it and she wanted to see a different one 🤣

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 21/02/2021 21:11

I seem majorly invested @headnorth, ho hum, behave

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 21/02/2021 21:13

Fair enough @bettyboos
Each to their own

fairyannie · 21/02/2021 21:29

I'm sorry to hear that he is in hospital and I wish him a speedy recovery.

My father always spoke fondly of him and his antics.

Prince Philip would ask for my dad to take him water skiing. My dad was in the Royal Navy and stationed in Malta.

Dad used to tell us all about him. The stories got racier as we got older. 😬

needtospill · 21/02/2021 21:32

Bloody hell are you his valet or something? Shock

That’s really quite odd.

(I bet you don't talk to people like that in real life!)

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 22/02/2021 09:12

@RickiTarr
perhaps for the sake of many of you, i wasnt unduely concerned about prince philip, i was curious as to his funeral?

that better
i am not obsessed nor his valet,
some of you have totally shit attitudes

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 22/02/2021 09:14

thanks @customwatkins

pretty shit to come on here and criticize people for having concerns about members of the royal family,
i have rephrased for the bullying attitude shown

Yes that sounds much, much saner than “when the pandemic first reached uk i was worried about Prince Philip, and any funeral”.

The meaning is significantly different in fact.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 22/02/2021 09:16

i do beg your effing pardon @RickiTarr

how awful to have thoughts and considerations different to your own!

Well I wouldn’t tilt my head at anyone or use the word “overinvested” here or IRL but if a friend or relative’s concern, in a global pandemic seemed disproportionately geared toward the BRF and the funerary arrangements, I would have had a little chat with them, yes, because it would worry me a bit.
Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 22/02/2021 09:20

luckily i doubt i know you @RickiTarr, so you can keep your so called little chats to your rl friends
