Do you have wine. In the house?

Inspired by the ‘staples’ thread. We have wine and I can5 remember the last time we didn’t...

Hmmm maybe I need to rethink my choices,

Yeah, always. Right now it is saving my sanity.

MissCalamity · 13/02/2021 13:49

No wine Sad I normally only have one or two bottles in though.
I have lager, cider, pink gin and archers though, enough to keep me going!

WildRosie · 13/02/2021 13:49

Spirits too. Three different brandies - only one open. Four Scotch whiskies - two open. There is also an opened bottle of gin but the cap stays on until April. Gin plus whatever is a spring and summer aperitif chez Rosie.

kowari · 13/02/2021 13:50

No, only liqueur, bought in 2019. I might buy cider for a specific occasion but don't buy alcohol as a staple grocery item. The only staples here that attract VAT are dark chocolate and icecream.

CrystalMaisie · 13/02/2021 13:51

Loads, at least 30-40 bottles of wine, prosecco, champagne. I get given quite a lot. But we don’t drink unless we have friends round. Last time we opened a bottle was Christmas Day.

ineedaholidayandwine · 13/02/2021 13:52

Always, and gin/rum

SleepingStandingUp · 13/02/2021 13:52

We have wine, beer and spirits but I wouldn't consider them staples. They're rarely brought on the weekly shopping list - DH has whiskey for gifts and beers for smaller gifts or father's Day. I had gin for presents. Wine brought as hoc when I fancy it

MrBullinaChinaShop · 13/02/2021 13:53

Yeah we always have wine in. Usually a couple of bottles of decent champagne, a few bottles of cava, then 6-12 bottles of red and white. Don’t drink all that often but it’s there if we fancy opening a bottle with a meal.
When the in laws visit (from another country) they tend to buy us some really good bottles, which is appreciated.

champagneplanet · 13/02/2021 13:53

We did yesterday, now we don't as we drank it last night Blush

I buy weekly, don't keep a huge stock as we only really drink once a week due to DHs shifts, he can't risk drinking the night before work.

Don't buy in bulk as it's too much temptation and takes up too much space on the fridge/cupboard so I buy as we need.

MrBullinaChinaShop · 13/02/2021 13:54

We also have gin, rum, brandy, Disaronno, Port and Vodka.

peboh · 13/02/2021 13:55

I always have wine, Prosecco, a mixture of spirits, cider and beer in the house at all times. We're not massive at home drinkers but dh and I may fancy a drink on a Friday/Saturday night and after the busy week neither of fancy popping to the shop just to grab something so we keep stocked up.

YerAWizardHarry · 13/02/2021 13:56

We have some red in the cupboard that was bought for cooking with and is probably off now.

Don't drink wine though. I've got basically every spirit imaginable and DP has an extensive whisky collection

HeronLanyon · 13/02/2021 13:57

Yes i always have champagne cava red wine (I’m allergic) vodka and beer.
Live central in city and tend to drink/eat out quite a bit (ore Covid) rather than have anyone here often - other than dp.
I am a bit of a ‘stocker inner’ though - I also drink alcohol myself.

Stegosaurus11 · 13/02/2021 14:00

Nope, not a priority for me, can't understand why people make such a fuss over needing a glass of wine. My other half would disagree though, he buys 1 bottle a week, unfortunately we don't have much spare money for luxury items so other things have to take priority.

WeAllHaveWings · 13/02/2021 14:01

No wine in right now, I pick up as and when I want it.

Spirits though we have around 20 bottles of various whisky, bourbon, vodka, rum and 1 tequila. Also around 60 cans of guiness surger and strongbow dark fruits.

QuothTheSlothNevermore · 13/02/2021 14:01

We always have about 8-10 bottles in, but rarely drink them if we don't have guests round, so has been pretty much the same 8-10 bottles (apart from one or two) for the last year now! Have just recently started drinking the occasional glass to use them up as they're not the type of bottles to lay in a cellar for years...

Bluntness100 · 13/02/2021 14:06

Yes, we have a booze cupboard with booze fridge and wine rack and a cellar. So there is quite a lot of everything. When we were younger and skint though we would just buy a bottle on the way home on a Friday night.

BerniesMittens · 13/02/2021 14:08

We've always got wine in the house. As well as beer, vodka, rum, brandy, whisky, Bailey's, amaretto, port... Don't drink often but if I fancy a drink I like it to be there! Grin

Charley50 · 13/02/2021 14:10

I try to have a few days a week where I don't have wine or other alcohol, in the house. I just bought some for the weekend.

notsosmoothie · 13/02/2021 14:15

I buy a bottle of wine, open it for a small glass one afternoon, and then it sits there half-full until it goes off.

One day I'll accept that I don't drink – but I don't know when that will be!

Namechangegame123 · 13/02/2021 14:15

Yep we almost always do. I do enjoy a glass, but even I didn't I think I would still buy it to cook with. Some sauces/recipes just don't taste as good without it.

Ginfordinner · 13/02/2021 14:17

Why don't you buy those 250ml bottles instead? I used to buy them when DH used to go away a lot, and I fancied just a glass.
devildeepbluesea · 13/02/2021 14:18

Always. Get a nice case every 4 months but regularly top up at the supermarket. I get antsy if I have fewer than 6 bottles!

macshoto · 13/02/2021 14:20

Just checked - 200 was a bit of an underestimate. ~70 in the wine fridge and ~350 in the cellar according to my inventory - but some will be "missing, presumed drunk"...

Bangable · 13/02/2021 14:22

Yep a couple of wine racks full of wine, a full wine fridge and the kitchen island has a wine rack filled with champagne. We LOVE good wine 🍷 I don’t drink in the week but we love to crack a bottle or two open at the weekend. Cheers!
