Inspired by the ‘staples’ thread. We have wine and I can5 remember the last time we didn’t...

Hmmm maybe I need to rethink my choices,

We have a couple of bottles, one red and one white. DH has a box of beer. There's a half empty bottle of whisky.

RoseMartha · 13/02/2021 00:56

No because I dont drink as intolerant to it

shinynewapple21 · 13/02/2021 01:06

Yes we always have wine in - unless we've drink it all and if that happens we would normally buy more the next day

namechange63524 · 13/02/2021 01:12

Usually.

Rubybluesy · 13/02/2021 01:34

Yes my wine rack looks better full

DramaAlpaca · 13/02/2021 01:36

Yes, and plenty of it.

PuffItsGone · 13/02/2021 01:59

Yes always have quite a lot in, besides wine also always have champagne chilled, and Prosecco. Also have well stocked spirits cupboard and mixers in fridge just in case. Not sure what for at the moment though as obviously no guests and I actually don’t really drink. Feel too old for hangovers so I only have a few on special occasions!

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 13/02/2021 07:33

No, unless it’s a gift I’ve bought and not yet given. Certainly wouldn’t see alcohol as a staple nor would I want my children to think it was a staple when shopping.

Certainly not. It would damage them on sight.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 13/02/2021 07:57

A bottle of rose, which i have found makes me wheezy, but it is mine.

two bottles, one wine, one red, for me to take to my dm, who doesnt seem to complain of being wheezy.
dd aged 23, it transpires has a bottle of red in her bedroom

Some of us can manage to have a well stocked wine rack and resist the urge to drink all the time you know.
strawberriesontheNeva · 13/02/2021 08:04

No. We don't drink, plus wine is disgusting

crumptrump · 13/02/2021 08:05

Yes, always. Although I’m pregnant so the wine stash hasn’t been touched for a while.

What a load of nonsense about not wanting children to think of wine as a staple. A glass of wine at dinner takes the edge off the repetitive nature of the bedtime routine and allows me to flop into a happy sleep once the little darlings are asleep. They’ve never seen me drunk but mummy enjoying a glass of wine once a week or so isn’t damaging.

AliceSprings123 · 13/02/2021 08:11

Yes, for cooking and Chef's PerksGrin

MaryIsA · 13/02/2021 08:12

My mum would have Been shocked at wine becoming a staple. We get a delivery of a case every 3 months or so, nothing special just good drinkable stuff. Top up with cheaper white for dss at the supermarket as she is young, drinks it like water and it pains me to see good white wine drunk like that when she’s equally happy with £6 Tesco white.

We’ve got about 10 white and a dozen red. Mostly about £8 a bottle from a wine club....so £10 to £12 if you bought without the discount. About 20 bottles of spirits, some of them had for years, some like Marsala and vermouth for cooking. The whisky comes out 4 or 5 times a year.

There’s a bottle of Prosecco in the cupboard that I was saving in case I needed an emergency ‘take to a party’ bottle pre-lockdown. Needless to say, it’s still there!

I don’t buy wine that often as it’s only me who drinks it and my alcohol tolerance is quite low. It takes me ages to drink a bottle so it’s an occasional treat otherwise I end up wasting it.

Parker231 · 13/02/2021 08:18

Wine is a staple! We have a wine club box delivered every two months and buy at the supermarket if we see anything we like.

PandemicPalava · 13/02/2021 08:18

I don't have wine unless I'm working my way through a bottle over a couple of days, but I do have a lot of gin but not always mixers. I also have some vodka at the moment from Christmas pudding lighting (although we forgot and used something else) so that's ok with coke. So yes, I always have some alcohol in the house but only drink 1/2 days a week, and only 2 glasses of wine or 1 spirit mix

Morten · 13/02/2021 08:19

Always have wine in but none has been drunk this year!

AnaisNun · 13/02/2021 08:20

Usually but no, not today. I’ve drunk it all.

Gice · 13/02/2021 08:20

Yes but I’m the only one that drinks it and I’m not a big drinker (max two drinks at a time and only a couple of times a week if at all) so I tend to only drink half the bottle then waste the rest in cooking.

Tinacollada · 13/02/2021 08:23

ALWAYS Grin

MrsDThomas · 13/02/2021 08:24

Yes.

5 white
3 red
3 prosecco

Always have wine

randomsabreuse · 13/02/2021 08:26

Yep. Mostly gets used for cooking with the remainder going to us to drink with the meal. Bought some for the first time in years the other day as we've finally gone through the stock after a year of no volunteering in return for wine...

EssexLioness · 13/02/2021 08:27

A few mini bottles of Prosecco and some red wine which is only used for cooking. I love Prosecco but will only tend to have a drink every few months as I’m not that fussed with alcohol generally
