Do you have wine. In the house?

Inspired by the ‘staples’ thread. We have wine and I can5 remember the last time we didn’t...

Hmmm maybe I need to rethink my choices,

Really interesting thread.

We keep wine stocked but it’s generally because we’ve been given it and it is too nice drink just us. Or because I’ve seen an unusual/exceptional bottle but didn’t want to drink straight away. So we have about 20 bottles on the rack. I also buy for cooking with.

I used to work in the wine trade so I know a good bottle. But also know that very normalised wine drinking can be a really negative thing. So I agree with @IceCreamAndCandyfloss that I wouldn’t want DC to think it was a staple.

WalkingMeAway · 13/02/2021 08:28

Yes we always have wine. In the house and in the garage.
And champagne and a variety of spirits.

NewYearNewTwatName · 13/02/2021 08:28

there are bottles of wine sitting in various cupboards, along with bottles of gin and rum.

I don't really drink, only if going out with friends or family, or baileys at Christmas.

DH is a recovering alcoholic.

But most people don't know this about us, so Christmases and birthdays I end up with tons of bottles from colleges and acquaintances. 😂

I keep meaning to round all the bottles up and drop them off somewhere.

macshoto · 13/02/2021 08:31

Maybe 200 bottles - red, white, fortified, sweet, champagne (pink and white). Small cellar and a wine storage fridge for the better bottles.

Did a couple of WSET wine tasting courses in the past and got into better wine. Highly recommend The Wine Society - not for profit cooperative and much better value than the supermarkets.

Have wine with dinner most days. Though have some eto decanters that allow us to share a bottle over a couple of days - so only usually about a glass and a half each day.

MsSquiz · 13/02/2021 08:32

We always have 1 bottle of red, white and rosé i , although we don't often drink it. It was more for if people came round (back in the day when it was allowed!) it was there for them.
We also have Prosecco and champagne, but don't often drink them unless it's a special occasion.

I'm a vodka drinker & DH is either a beer or gin drinker, so we always have those in!

namechangefail2020 · 13/02/2021 08:33

We have a box. It won't last long

About 30 bottles. Red, white, Prosecco and champagne.
Mix of everyday and nice stuff.

SpilltheTea · 13/02/2021 08:47

I have some from Christmas. I don't fancy a drink often, so they tend to last a while. DP has never liked alcohol, so they're all for me Grin

Ikora · 13/02/2021 09:43

We have wine and various other bottles of spirits, we don’t really drink often. Most have been gifts. We have a few that are kept carefully because they are worth about £200 each.

Toorapid · 13/02/2021 09:47

I get twitchy when the stock is lower than 6 bottles. I'm not sure why really because we only drink 1-2 per week. Maybe a throwback to when we could have guests. Also, if you've got wine in, you've always got a last minute gift.

Jeremyironseverything · 13/02/2021 10:01

A big wine rack full in the garage and a smaller one in the house.

lastqueenofscotland · 13/02/2021 10:23

Me and DP aren’t wine people. We have half a bottle of red and white used for cooking.
I’ve got a really nice bottle of champagne that I’ve had for years and never touched and a bottle of naff prosecco I bought for a Christmas gathering that got covid-ed

CuntasarusRex · 13/02/2021 10:46

We have 3 of the mini bottles, but only cause they were a Christmas present, not something I would actually buy, can't stand the stuff

Ginfordinner · 13/02/2021 12:45

This is a thread of extremes Grin
Those who think wine is "disgusting" or teetotallers.
And those who have a full wine cellar.

We are somewhere in the middle. We are careful about not drinking too much, and pretty much stick to the recommended safe limits, but we still enjoy a bottle now and again.

weegiemum · 13/02/2021 12:46

We buy as we need it. We (and especially me) were drinking too much and would open more if it was there. So now if we fancy wine, duh picks up a bottle (or 2 at the weekends) on his way home from work.

We always have plenty in at Christmas though!

Muskox · 13/02/2021 12:52

We have loads! DH enjoys buying wine and we don't drink that much, so we always have lots!

Glittertwins · 13/02/2021 13:05

Yes,rather a lot as my parents didn't come for Christmas as planned and we did dry January

JellyTeapot · 13/02/2021 13:12

I put in a big Majestic order and bought a bigger wine rack at the start of lockdown no.1. Have kept it topped up ever since, latest delivery of 48 bottles arrived this week. Cheers Wine

AquaTorfana · 13/02/2021 13:12

About sixteen bottles.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 13/02/2021 13:13

No, but that's because I don't like wine. I do have other types of alcohol that I do like in the house.

WildRosie · 13/02/2021 13:28

Yes, always. Five reds and three whites today, plus a bottle of Cava.

dottiedodah · 13/02/2021 13:36

We have a wine rack ,so yes plenty in ATM! Tend just to be WE drinkers though .

BestIsWest · 13/02/2021 13:43

We always have lots of wine and spirits in the house. We hardly drink though, maybe two glasses a week. I can’t tolerate more than a couple of glasses these days and neither of us likes drinking on a work night.

Crosstrainer · 13/02/2021 13:44

Loads. We had a plumber ask if we’re having a party - was a perfectly normal stock for us....☺️
