Took Berroca for a while but now just take magnesium (says on pack magnesium as maleate, citrate and ascorbate) with B vits.

How do you work out which vitamin you need? Sometimes I feel overwhelmed with so many vitamins available and can't decide which ones are for us.

LucasLeesEyebrows · 01/02/2021 09:23

I take one of those fizzy vitamin C tablet in water and vitamin D supplements. We all take vitamin D because DH has MS and it's something we have read about, as being very important.

@DfEisashambles

Does anyone take a probiotic supplement? I’ve been meaning to get one but again such an array, if anyone can help with a good brand?
I used to take biokult But now take home made sauerkraut instead. Prebiotics such as onions and garlic is good.then the body a,Kes it’s own probiotics from them.

@Pmen

Glutathione, adrenal max and gelatin 😊
I used to take adrenomax and adrenal extra from nutri I think it’s important to remember that anything you take needs to be for a long time to get into your system ..or to build up levels.

Also important to remember is we need to think about our absorption .
Are we properly absorbing our supplements or are we mainly excreting them.
It’s a very complex subject and I don’t have a handle on it, I’m sorry to say.

I do think liquid supplement may absorb better than pills, which are compressed powder.
So I do go for drops now where possible rather than powder.

Another thing we need to think about is good elimination. I think it needs to be frequent. Once a day at least. I can’t see how there can be good absorption if you are backed up inside with solid waste but I’d love others thoughts on the matter.

Cold pressed Flaxseed oil is very good for aiding elimination and of course we must not forget good fats and oils as many of our vitamins are fat soluble.

I really try to eat well. Good nutritious food as our bodies recognise that better rather than a load of pills.

Also a good parasite cleanse is needed at least twice a year.. I’ll probably start mine in a couple of weeks when the weather picks up a bit and I feel less sluggish.
Pumpkin seeds are very good for worms and we do eat them every day in the home made muesli.

If you have a varied balanced diet you shouldn't need anything other than a vit D complex between October and early March.

The supplements industry is vast and the marketing designed to make you think you need it. But unless you can pinpoint a nutrient you don't get enough of from your diet then probably all you're doing is passing the nutrient out in your urine. Expensive piss! Be aware that you can cause an imbalance by taking incorrect ratios of supplements and that fat-suluable vitamins can be stored in your body and cause issues if not needed. Be careful.

Thank you for that, I was a bit concerned that I'd take or give the wrong vitamin.

aquashiv · 01/02/2021 18:37

Barocca if I feel a cold starting.
It kicks my arse

aquashiv · 01/02/2021 18:37

Spinach and green vegis always make me feel better too.

How does one do a parasite cleanse? I saw someone mention on Facebook once but they didn’t offer any info, do you have to drink or take something?

wifterwafter · 02/02/2021 08:30

This thread is going to cost me £100 Smile

@wifterwafter, hopefully not. I refer you to my post above.

I keep being sent ads for morninga tumeric and probiotic based supplements. 53 and last period over a year ago. Has anyone taken this stuff? I take an A-Z multi vit, tumeric for the achey bits and evening primrose oil but could do with something to sort my brain fog.

wifterwafter · 02/02/2021 09:39

@CandidaAlbicans2 really? I've just read your post. I'm 52 and suffer with various ailments and thinning hair. My chiropractor has already recommended vit D and magnesium but I was also going to try 5HTP, turmeric and black pepper and a multi vitamin.

Do you have a scientific or medical background?

Can I ask how one would take Turmeric please? DH asked me to get some for him, which I did but I'm not really sure what to do with it. We've got a Nutribullet, so could make a 'shot' in that but I'm not sure what to put it in. Apologies if the answer is obvious Grin

MsMiaWallace · 02/02/2021 10:37

Are berroca actually better than the cheaper effervescent?

superstar63 · 02/02/2021 12:13

For those of you taking magnesium how long does it take to start working for better sleeping/insomnia and which is the best please?

Eruss · 02/02/2021 13:18

@superstar63
I take magnesium for low mood & anxiety, it’s helps massively, however if I take the magnesium in the evening I have the most insane dreams, I take mine AM or early afternoon now.
Just a word of warning if you’re hoping for a better sleep, it may work for some people though.

superstar63 · 02/02/2021 13:32

@Eruss

Thanks for the heads up on that, which brand do you take?

MoriaRoseForever · 02/02/2021 13:48

Re magnesium. It seems from some googling that Magnesium Bisglycinate is the best for sleeping, but can't seem to find those. Anyone use this ?

Eruss · 02/02/2021 14:01

I used to take H&B tablets, either the plain or the ones with zinc but I bought the H&B powder version a few days ago

FlatteredRhubardFool · 02/02/2021 16:06

I've just started the Alive gummies after reading this and ordered some for my mum and the dc too. Regular vitamins always result in me feeling less tired and I have far less food cravings.

Yes it is- It is also known as magnesium glycniate- it's the same stuff and is more commonly called that.
