Can I ask how one would take Turmeric please? DH asked me to get some for him, which I did but I'm not really sure what to do with it. We've got a Nutribullet, so could make a 'shot' in that but I'm not sure what to put it in. Apologies if the answer is obvious Grin
Google golden paste- it's simple and cheap to make and far more effective than tablets.

I take a Turmeric capsule at breakfast and dinner time and it doesn't disturb my sleep. Red wine in the evening keeps me awake but needs must 🤭

Spatone iron shots, they have honestly changed my life. I take a few other supplements too but the iron is the only one that has made a big tangible impact :)

Nix2020 · 02/02/2021 20:24

Magnesium, iron with b12, vit d, something for my joints that I can't remember the name.

I've just started prebiotics.

The iron has made the biggest improvement

I get really bad PMT and take oil of evening primrose with starflower. Taken it for years and a few times I stopped to see if it made any difference. I'm so much more clamer and happier on it. It's an orange box in Boots. I take one a day and 2 a day week before period. I definitely feeling amazing and not the moody and irritable person I am without it!

I've got floradix arriving today from Amazon after reading this thread!
I was ready for new supplements & do need iron so this looks perfect.

Wallywobbles · 04/02/2021 12:53

What time of day do you take your magnesium and 5HTP. For the later it says 1-3/day but not when. Thanks.

These www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/nature-s-way-alive-women-s-energy-multi-vitamin-tablets-60027956

I must get some more. Within a week I feel like a new woman, when I finish them I don’t buy more because they are expensive, but then I feel awful again and spend weeks trying to justify if I should buy them again. I will order some now.

I've seen these recommended before, but they did nothing special for me. Maybe I wasn't fatigued to begin with though.

" feel so lethargic . I eat fairly well , I drink plenty of water. I'm on furlough for third time so have lost motivation to tidy cupboards and paint furniture smile but just feel tired all the time ."

Are you not just bored? Tidying cupboards doesn't fill me with enthusiasm either!

Gwenhwyfar · 04/02/2021 13:21

@Nameisjustaname

I took barocca recently and I was visibly bouncing. Placebo effect?? Not sure but need to take it again Grin
Doesn't do anything in particular for me except for green 'water' if you see what I mean.
Gwenhwyfar · 04/02/2021 13:30

@Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername

Can I ask what you take magnesium for?
I take the citrate for constipation. I've taken a different form in the past to calm me down (advised by GP).
Gwenhwyfar · 04/02/2021 13:36

"The heamoglobin drop test at the centre was ok but I don’t think that shows whether iron stores are healthy. It’s annoy as I had just got back into running and was doing really well. Currently I find going up the stairs an effort. I don’t know how long it takes until I’ll start feeling better."

This happened to me and I think I felt bad for around a month. I won't be giving blood again, unfortunately.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/02/2021 13:40

" a good parasite cleanse is needed at least twice a year"

Really? Any more info on this?

Gwenhwyfar · 04/02/2021 13:42

"If you have a varied balanced diet you shouldn't need anything other than a vit D complex between October and early March."

Yes, this is what doctors say, but if it was really true, we wouldn't have as many people getting real benefits from supplements, would we?
And that advice is based on getting your 5 a day at least, which not everybody does.
It took doctors a long time to admit that everyone in the norther hemisphere could do with extra vitamin D in the winter.

@TheLittleRedToothbrush

Apart from going to the GP how can you tell what vitamin deficiency you may have ?
I don't think you can totally. And a GP might not want to give you a blood test if there's nothing wrong. I suppose you can look at your lifestyle/diet and think what might be missing e.g. for me I don't eat healthily so I take a 5 a day. I'm a woman pre-meno who doesn't eat much meat and once tested low-ish for ferritin so I take iron as well. I take vitamin D because everybody should. I tried B-complex because some people said it gave them energy, but it did nothing for me. I take Omega 3 because most of us are deficient in it.
BaggoMcoys · 04/02/2021 16:07

Has anyone had any issues with magnesium? I started taking it a while ago because I have a lot of joint issues and pain, and a friend recommended it, but it seemed to affect my bowels (not quite diarrhoea but my movements were much looser). Perhaps it was the type I took? I stopped taking it.

I regularly take vitamin b complex, vitamin c and vitamin d. Occasionally I also take vitamin e. I can't say I feel any dramatic changes but my overall health does seem to have improved.

Yes it has a laxative effect- some are gentler on the stomach than others. Just scale back the amount if it is troublesome.

This is a well-known effect of magnesium citrate (and the reason why I take it).

BeaSmithers · 06/02/2021 00:28

Bought floradix. OMG.....I'm bloated and farting like nothing I've ever experienced! 😂 Any suggestions on how to alleviate/avoid this?

GatsbyGG · 06/02/2021 13:10

Just regarding the magnesium you all take, do ye take it in capsule or powder format? I've heard the powder is better absorbed by the body in liquid format. I would much rather take the capsule however as its much more convenient.

One that hasn't been mentioned is NAC.
