We might be craving tiles, but we'll leave the woodchip and artex alone unless we're feeling very brave...

Welcome into another thread covering the whole range of life and death, novelty vegetables, DIY, any other randomness and musings about a certain pandemic.

Disaster vampires.

I have seen some good news on the exams today.. fingers crossed this happens...

It was saying - pupils given the topics to revise, along with generous grading, exams still to go ahead but a few weeks later in June

Then, as well as this to help pupils who have had more disruption this year, those pupils will get a * next to their grades and more support from colleges due to this regarding their grades

I thought this seemed a good plan and keeping fingers crossed it comes off.

I've just ordered some new Christmas lights to cheer myself up. Tier 3 awaits.

MercyBooth · 29/11/2020 20:13

Tier 2 here from Wednesday. Essex. Finch from ECC was begging for us to go back into tier 1 after this lockdown. He was the one who insisted we go into tier 2 pre this lockdown which Essex did .............for a week. Twunt should have been careful what he wished for.

AcornAutumn · 29/11/2020 20:14

Does anyone know the Ryan Adams song “I lost my fucking mind”?

Tempted to post it on one particular thread right now. I won’t though 😂

I noticed that too!

Has anyone else been reading the thread in AIBU about the lockdown protesters.

SufferingFromLongLockdown · 29/11/2020 20:20

It seems like where I live has been slightly ahead of the curve in adopting rule of six 😄 . Lots of happy people about walking, though it feels quite Victorian to see places so busy when families would usually be filling the shopping malls.
If there is a plan to stop people communicating and relating, it's a big fail. We are finding our tribes.

Anyway, it's been a lovely weekend, meeting a friend for a walk and a takeaway meal, then getting drive through hot chocolate. If I don't think about my life before March I can be pleased with how good it felt.

Nope but I can predict how it's going.

I'm going into uni tomorrow - I'm terrified of being mask-shamed or something. Then terrified I've made things worse for DD2 with complaining to school - just low level terrified altogether at the moment.

Have spent most of the evening painting my nails as a distraction - stops the anxiety induced skin picking a bit.

MercyBooth · 29/11/2020 20:26

@DominaShantotto Flowers I do that. Started when i was 8 while being bullied at school.

Re. your DD You did the right thing. Hang on to that.

SirSamuelVimes · 29/11/2020 20:28

Ffs, some people would suck the joy out of a fucking clown.

Now there's an image I didn't need! WinkBlush

I did compulsively nail bite - had stopped (for work-reasons cos I was going to need to) but restarted at the start of the pandemic. Just stopped again but it seems to have been taken over with cuticle picking - need to get the broken skin cleared up for placements and cos hand gel hurts at the moment. I've got piles of fiddle toys by my computer cos being on video calls is a prime time for it.

MercyBooth · 29/11/2020 20:34

Need to get a carrier bag for my hair appointment to put my coat in. They arent allowed to touch my personal belongings so if it falls off the coat stand it may get left on the floor and trodden on. So a large Tesco carrier bag will be ok for me to put it and my scarf in.

Fiddle toys are a good idea Might see if i can find some.

MargosKaftan · 29/11/2020 20:44

Nail biting is why I'm getting gels put back on, I bite natural nails! Am booked for this Friday then 21st for Christmas nails, hoping that's enough time for a bit of growth. I dont care that it is not essential.

9th does sound about right- family members who are working in London hospitals said start of 2nd week of December as well as the press. Plans for nice photo ops of jabs.

Having restrictions eased at the start of Feb does mean the February half term is saved for the travel industry, they can get something out of the ski season!

What a load of pooh...
AcornAutumn · 29/11/2020 21:36

Mercy

I was pleasantly surprised to see how much support there was for the protest

I asked the op why she thought everyone was “jumping all over each other” but she didn’t reply. I’m pretty sure if there’d been a mass orgy in central London yesterday, there’d have been MSM coverage!

justasking111 · 29/11/2020 21:37

Was baffled as to why Anglesey cases were going up and up the last few days. They had zero cases on so many days the last ten days or so. It has been revealed tonight they have shut the high school in Holyhead completely, staff and pupils having tested positive. Comments by parents said it did not end there the primaries were being affected younger siblings, so parents were stuffed now schools will be closed until next year there.

Evenstar · 29/11/2020 21:41

In a heartening turn over in the other areas, someone who was going to report someone for going to their second home has been likened to the Stasi and told to mind her own business 😂

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 29/11/2020 21:42

Thanks for the new thread. Marking my place!

I saw that and thought wow what a turnaround from a few months ago, then they wanted people tied to a pole with a pyre around them, it was like the wicker man.

I saw that thread, I was pleasantly suprised at the amount of responses sticking up for the protesters.
ISaySteadyOn · 29/11/2020 21:57

I am feeling low today. It is the worst day of the month for me. High emotions and horrible cramps. It will pass but right now, I can't see the wood for the trees.

I also had a weird question. I was browsing that thread about indie shops and so many of them were soaps and jewelry. Now I practise basic self care that is, I wash and I brush my hair and I brush my teeth but beyond that, I don't quite understand why you would bother in these times unless it was to stop you biting your nails as pp said above.

I used to love to dress up and wear earrings but then I gained weight on antidepressants (off them before DC) . I've settled into a motherly shape now and I don't wear earrings anymore cos toddlers and earrings didn't mix.

But I haven't looked in a mirror for years as I really don't like my face (which makes my utter loathing of masks odd when you come to think of it). Damn it, there's a question in there somewhere but I can't find it.

I guess, why practise anything beyond the basics you need? I often wish to have nicer things but feel like I am not worth it and I can't find any anyway.

Orangeblossom7777 · 29/11/2020 22:01

I think there is a turnaround in non lockdown times perhaps...it seems to change a bit

Justgivemewine · 29/11/2020 22:01

Just see this pop up in one of my MN ads. Uncanny how they know this would appeal to me 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔😄😄😄😄😄
