We might be craving tiles, but we'll leave the woodchip and artex alone unless we're feeling very brave...

Welcome into another thread covering the whole range of life and death, novelty vegetables, DIY, any other randomness and musings about a certain pandemic.

I am trying to smile to people when out and about- not madly but just in case they need it. People sitting alone on benches for example.

I am cross with DH today. We have some ill family members and was telling me how sad I felt yesterday. Also quite hormonal.

He assumed I felt guilty at not being 'doing enough to help them' but it wasn't that. It was the whole thing. But mainly sadness. And anger. I wonder if he projects his own feelings onto me at times.

It also made me think about how it seems to be assumed women tend to feel guilt over this stuff and somehow other emotions are not acceptable. But it could be a bit OTT as very hormonal today.

Bollss · 29/11/2020 10:23

We got a wellbeing pack. Water bottle, biscuits, hot choc sachets. That kinda thing. Absolutely no idea whether it was to do with Captain Tom. Came from our trusts charity so possibly.

Orangeblossom7777 · 29/11/2020 10:23

Telling him how sad I felt, not him telling me. Need to go back to bed maybe. Also not sleeping well.

WouldBeGood · 29/11/2020 10:25

@Reedwarbler that’s just awful.

And no, a year ago this treatment would have been considered inhumane and cruel. It’s terrifying how fundamental principles have been thrown to the wind.

Orangeblossom7777 · 29/11/2020 10:29

We have similar with FIL too Reedwarbler currently struggling at home with end stage conditions but if goes into hospital not allowed visitors. It's rubbish Flowers makes it much more stressful for everyone. I'm unsure about the situation with hospices...

Recycledblonde · 29/11/2020 10:35

LivinLaVidaLok I wish I was joking, to be fair I don’t know if money has gone elsewhere within the trust but this is the only initiative we’ve been told about. A criminal waste of money IMHO.

AcornAutumn · 29/11/2020 10:42

Morning
Excellent title

To those grinding their teeth - massive increase since lockdown, quelled surprise

I bought a DIY mouthguard from amazon but it disrupts sleep.

Now I have a facial massager, just a cheap thing, and make sure to go over that bit where the jaw meets the ear.

These two show massage techniques

I find them quite funny but I appreciate they’re not going to appeal to everyone!

AcornAutumn · 29/11/2020 10:43

Meanwhile, I keep hearing

“Eyes without a face
Got no human grace
Eyes without a face”.

AcornAutumn · 29/11/2020 11:03

Especially those flesh coloured masks.

I can’t wake up today. Meh.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 29/11/2020 11:06

We have a chippy near here that does semi decent fish and chips, but the service is always terrible and the people that work in there are always so miserable.

Anyways, just scrolling through Facebook this morning and someone left a review saying fish and chips were nice but what happened to service with a smile.

They responded saying that "these are hard times all round and we are busy feeding the community and keeping people safe"

I don't know why but it irrationally annoyed me.

You are not feeding the community, you are running a business, not a soup kitchen and how is a chippy keeping people safe?!

Why does everything everyone does have to be bloody virtuous.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 29/11/2020 11:07

Sorry, I think I'm having one of those everything makes me grumpy days.

WouldBeGood · 29/11/2020 11:07

Yes! Those flesh coloured masks are so so creepy.

TabbyStar · 29/11/2020 11:08

That's terrible Reed and so different from normal EoL care when they do everything they can to accommodate you. My DF's ward had norovirus on it when he was dying and was closed but we had dispensation to go in. I'm not comparing the two viruses, just highlighting the difference. Although they wouldn't let us take DF home because of norovirus, though I don't think my DM would have coped so that wasn't such a major thing.

AcornAutumn · 29/11/2020 11:09

Livin maybe they meant staff.

There’s a huge queue outside my chippy every night, in a rough area, people do rely on them.

You walk into that chippy without a mask - they don’t give a shit, I like them 😂

NeedWineNow · 29/11/2020 11:12

Thank god I thought I’d lost you!

Orangeblossom7777 · 29/11/2020 11:15

I have not seen flesh coloured masks but sounds unpleasant.

Curlygirl06 · 29/11/2020 11:16

Omg, how timely! They're playing "Do they think it's Christmas " on the radio! Pink chicken tiles anyone? Lol

hoochymamgu · 29/11/2020 11:21

Oh bless him, Reedwarbler hope you can get in for a visitThanks
Thanks so much for this thread, an oasis of sanity and rude vegetables Grin

Hiphopopotamus · 29/11/2020 11:31

Honestly these threads are keeping me sane at the moment. Everything just feels so bloody difficult. I’m on maternity leave with my first baby born during lockdown and it’s all just so lonely and crap with everything I had planned going out of the window. Which I can’t post anywhere else on here because women complaining about their disappointing maternity leave just get stomped on. But it’s crap and isolating and I feel like my world has become very very small.

Sorry for adding just a bunch of moans to this thread! Hope you’re all doing as ok as you can be!

ISaySteadyOn · 29/11/2020 11:38

We are here for moans. I just made it through my monthly migraine yesterday.

I am afraid my conspiracy theory is that the eponymous they want to destroy normal human interaction. Only I can't figure out why.

That must be so hard. In March I met a new mum in the park. We got chatting because she was crying.

We’d hoped to see each other in the park again, but the following day the police started circling with repeated megaphone announcements about exercising and then clearing off. So I stopped going. I don’t know if she did.

I hopped on the “fantasist 10m house” thread and bummer, it turns it’s NOT a thread for sharing your ideas on how you’d like your £10million house!

AcornAutumn · 29/11/2020 11:42

It prevents uprisings

It means most conversations are online and monitored

Software companies increase their fortune

It reduces carbon emissions as travel is reduced

It’s easier to track people

Hell, people invite listening devices into their homes.

I heard a new thing about Alexa and neighbours?

SirSamuelVimes · 29/11/2020 11:56

@Reedwarbler I'm so sorry about your fil. What's happening to him is criminal. You're right, if this was a year ago it would be unbelievable.

I'm definitely clenching my jaw during the day too. Am trying to relax it, will definitely have a look at the relaxation exercises.

MissEWeatherwax · 29/11/2020 12:01

Flowers to everyone. I’m going shopping again today. And I’m going to buy a cappuccino ( wonder if I will catch covid of it Wink)
My DD’s are coming with me, they are teenagers and shouldn’t be looking forward to a food shop. I know they should stay home, but when else are they going to go out?
The weather is a bit damp here and no they don’t want to go for a walk.
My DH has took my car for a drive to give it a run out because I’m not doing enough milesConfused. Apparently cars need to be driven.

WouldBeGood · 29/11/2020 12:06

I honestly think the reason I’m feeling better than I did last lockdown, when I went completely insane, is because I’ve found these threads 😊
