We might be craving tiles, but we'll leave the woodchip and artex alone unless we're feeling very brave...

Welcome into another thread covering the whole range of life and death, novelty vegetables, DIY, any other randomness and musings about a certain pandemic.

(And even if I get an appointment, are they going to let me bring my feeding baby? I bet not.)

Our dentist let me in with my 13 year old - he was having pain again from a mal formed tooth I was expecting to hand round on street outside- and the orthodontsit seem horrified at us waiting in car park without a car in the slight rain and let us sit in waiting room - which was really nice of them.

Might be worth ringing saying you're having issues - that seems to be only way any family members dentists are seeing people at the minute - I think their back logs for routine and checkups must be horendous and there still fire fighting.

LadyWaterford · 29/11/2020 16:45

Who or what is an AD Please?

Sonicthehedgehogg · 29/11/2020 17:03

@110APiccadilly My teeth and gums were awful for ages after DD. Remind them that you're postnatal as it really does make a difference to them (my dentist gently but pointedly asked if there were any 'health changes' he should know about when I was only a few weeks pregnant. He'd guessed because my gums had changed already).

AcornAutumn · 29/11/2020 17:05

@110APiccadilly

Terrific, I've just lost (another) filling. Dentist hasn't been in touch yet about work that was scheduled for April that they were supposed to reschedule, so what's the chances I'll get an appointment to do anything about my two missing fillings? I'm going to lose teeth over this, aren't I? (And even if I get an appointment, are they going to let me bring my feeding baby? I bet not.)
The local chemists are all now selling DIY temporary filling kits, is that worth a go?

Went for a walk at dusk in the park and it was busy and surprisingly pretty as they have lit up the crazy golf with fairy lights and there is a massive lit up Christmas tree in front of the Crescent.

It was quite nice looking in the lit up windows on the way back. Quite busy out. A grey day otherwise spent helping with homework.

Sonicthehedgehogg · 29/11/2020 17:40

We went for a walk in the forest. Saw horses and donkeys but no pigs. Very disappointed, not seen them once yet this year. Harumpf!

Now home for a glass of wine. Did anyone else see that supermarket secrets thread? 🍷 Grin

LivinLaVidaLoki · 29/11/2020 17:41

@ladywaterford
It stands for anti dementor.

The dementors are creatures from Harry Potter that suck all joy and hope out of life.
It was decided that there are enough of those in errrother placeson Mumsnet so we come here.

Its an amazing thread with amazing people who have saved my sanity more than once. We make each other laugh and support each other through this whole mess.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 29/11/2020 17:42

@Sonicthehedgehogg
Supermarket secrets? Sounds interesting....

Sonicthehedgehogg · 29/11/2020 17:44

I don't know how to link it in the app but it's in AIBU. My Aldi shop was a little heavier this week (but thankfully not that much pricier due to their fab 'price sensitivity' Grin)

LadyWaterford · 29/11/2020 17:46

@LivinLaVidaLoki thank you, you sound like my kind of people Smile

LivinLaVidaLoki · 29/11/2020 17:48

I just got irrationally cross over in the 'ronazone with a thread about someone dying of covid "after her grandson bought it....."
For fucks sake when is the blame game gonna stop. They put that in the op then went on to deny blaming the grandson. So, why mention it then? Dickhead.

Right, I'm off to the supermarket secrets thread 😁

Magpiecomplex · 29/11/2020 18:04

May I join you? Just heard that DS1 will be remote learning for the next two weeks, although thankfully not isolating too, and he's not looking forward to it... This on top of having already decided not to see anyone over Christmas because between us we attend or work in three different secondary schools and an FE college.

MercyBooth · 29/11/2020 18:14

@Reedwarbler Just when i think things cant get more appalling with your FILs situation......they do Sad Flowers

@LivinLaVidaLoki Quite frankly im shocked , saddened and appalled to see medics behaving like that on social media.

Justgivemewine · 29/11/2020 18:20

Evening everyone,

@AcornAutumn, I love Bob and Brad. 😁 I found them when I had a horrendous bout of sciatica, they had some really helpful advise and exercises.

Feeling grumpy tonight.
Ds2 just asked me when lockdown 2.0 ends. Despite being tempted to saying “never” I just told him it was officially next week but actually nothing will really change because of tiers, and not to even bother asking me what the rules would be cos they change every 5 minutes and I don’t bloody know (care).

CruCru · 29/11/2020 18:22

Welcome LadyWaterford and Magpiecomplex!

BogRollBOGOF · 29/11/2020 18:26

I've got a bonus fitness class on Wed. I just don't enjoy the Zoom substitute the instructor puts on. I like being outside, not prancing around in a stuffy lounge on carpet.

More choice of shops and our sports coming back is about the only difference being made in our lives. Still no eating in being tier 3 Sad

There was a queue to get into the supermarket this afternoon as I went past. I'm glad get chance to go off-peak.

@AcornAutumn I certainly didn't expect to find Bob and Brad on this thread Grin can't get their song out of my head now...

MaudesMum · 29/11/2020 18:37

I've spend a surprisingly large amount of time this weekend making starshaped lanterns out of tissue paper and willow - very sticky. They now both have fairy lights inside them, and one is hanging at in a first floor window at the front of the house, and and one is at the back. I've also put fairy lights in a bush outside the door. I've also put a couple of strands up inside. I'd never normally get Christmas lights up this early, but it seems a good way of fighting back the dark.

flower11 · 29/11/2020 18:40

We had a non essential drive the forestry commission place today. Car park was rammed, massive que for cafe to get hot chocolate and we brought a Christmas tree!
One of the only Christmas traditions we are going to get to do this year. People selling the trees were lovely, offering to take photos for people, making it fun for the children.

Hello, just checking in.

I also had a chat with dcs about when lockdown ends. They have established rule of 6 outside is back, so they can meet friends after school in the park, and are now happy. Its amazing such a small and inoffensive part of childhood - going to the park on the way home from school to play with friends you've been in class with all day - has been illegal for a month. Its bizarre we are doing this. Still waiting to hear if scouts are deemed illegal or not.

I have hair cut and nails booked in next week. I am attempting "normal" life as much as tier 3 will allow.

MargosKaftan · 29/11/2020 18:46

Oh and Boris' 9 week time frame- that actually sounds about right. If we start vaccinating on 9th December as openly being discussed in the press, by 5 weeks from now we should have most NHS staff done. Then another month vaccinating those in care homes and most vunerable. At which point, it doesn't really matter how many people in the community have covid, does it?

That takes us to the 1st week of February. Yep, sounds about where we should be looking.

Is the 9th December thing real or press speculation? I haven’t seen any reports myself and search engine results are leading me to speculation

I think the 9th Feb is being mooted because the government were worried about rebels within the party when they said Easter.

Oh, do you know of them? I only heard of them because I’ve had issues with grinding my teeth.

Oops. It would appear that i have allowed ds2 and 3 to be law breaking granny killers because I have allowed them to mix with their classroom peers outside in the fresh air for more than 5 minutes after school, because as we all know the virus switches off in school and only reawakens after the school run, (abit like the kids really 😁)
LivinLaVidaLoki · 29/11/2020 19:07

I'm in a Facebook group and someone posted some lovely pictures of Christmas lights around London. They'd gone out for a walk and took some lovely pictures.
They made me feel warm and fuzzy inside....until I got to the comments.
"Wow, busy...thought we were on Lockdown"
"Hardly any masks" (it's outside)
"Look at all those people, no wonder the rates aren't going down"

Ffs, some people would suck the joy out of a fucking clown.
