I'm watching a piece of furniture I'm selling on ebay, so far I have a massive £8.50 and 23 watchers, ends in 2 hours. DH brought the writing bureau that I sold on ebay up to this house and that is being collected on Tuesday, its a present for his girlfriend who asked for one and DH said he seemed very pleased with it.

We waited and waited for Boris's announcement, now must wait for details. At least we still have schools for now. Will see if it affects house sale, they are running at 16 week average already.

Getting a Sainsburys order today, as DD was sad I let her add more things - went up from £57 including some for DD to £87 and about half for DD Hmm but she was happier. Dh went down to old house to get bureau, measure other furniture and cleaned two walls.

We had a KFC, DH sent me a message to say it was empty.

I am feeling enormously grateful for this thread this morning.

We have some buttermilk in our fridge that I was intending for soda bread. We also have ANOTHER packet of beetroot. I am wondering if I blitz it all up with some eggs and flour if it would make beetroot pancakes that I could then have with smoked salmon and horseradish creme fraiche. However, I do not have smoked salmon, horseradish or creme fraiche and my sad little kiddies ADORE soda bread so I think that is what it will be.

Horrible weather this morning but we got out for a long walk yesterday.

Interesting re: all the beet chat. I did NOT KNOW that cane sugar was better for jams - I am a bad amateur jam maker but will bear this in mind next time. I always end up adding a bottle of pectin which makes it SOLID and taste a bit weird!

soddingkitten · 01/11/2020 07:54

Persis - lemon juice and apples, especially tart ones or cookers, have a lot of natural pectin. A squeeze of lemon juice orcsome grated apple in a soft fruit jam like strawberry (low in pectin) can really help the set. /jam tutorial

I bought some non smelly tealights as my DP says frangranced candles are hell on earth. I'm also not allowed wax melts for the same reason. My non smelly tea lights are a bit dull.

PersisFord · 01/11/2020 07:59

@soddingkitten thanks!! And I’m sure tastes much better!

I’m sure I am not alone in feeling anxious during this period. I find I gain enormous comfort from thinking about things like making jam. Which is odd because actually MAKING it I find hot, messy and a bit stressful!!!

PersisFord · 01/11/2020 08:01

@NorbertMeubles I’m afraid I’m with your husband on this one. Each tea light is actually a concentrated headache in an innocuous-appearing candle

SpeckledyHen · 01/11/2020 08:01

I am going to buy a washing-up bowl tomorrow to give myself a foot spa/ pedicure.
Not sure what colour to go for ?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/11/2020 08:01

DH uses cane sugar in his chili sauces but Gelierzucker in his jams.
Cane sugar is expensive and does not figure in his grans recepies.

Spudlet · 01/11/2020 08:12

@PersisFord I have a recipe for beetroot cupcakes - sounds weird, tastes yum. I’ll send it to you, if you like. It also needs a bit of buttermilk, so you should be sorted.

PersisFord · 01/11/2020 08:14

Oooooh I bet homemade chilli sauce is LUSH

Spudlet · 01/11/2020 08:16

We’re off National Trusting today and meeting my DParents - feeling a bit forlorn as we haven’t seen them since August and now who knows when we will again, but very grateful that we went for the earliest free Sunday we had to book tickets and didn’t wait. Also grateful that I have a sports massage booked for Monday and I didn’t leave it a week to see how I felt - hopefully with some pummelling and advice I’ll be able to start running again soon 🤞 God knows I need it, my mental health is starting to suffer from the lack of it 😞 I need to move.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/11/2020 08:27

Persis
It is - though DH makes a special Sriracia sauce for me - otherwise my throat would go up in flames at regular intervalls.

sueelleker · 01/11/2020 08:42

@PersisFord; I always buy jam sugar for preserves-it has just the right amount of pectin added.(Is your username from the Anne Of Green Gables books?)
@Champagneforeveryone; you'll have to bleach the hair before you dye it red, otherwise it's not likely to show up on black.

HelloDulling · 01/11/2020 08:48

I forgot to update my Tesco order last night. Today’s delivery is going to be a very motley collection of items.

MissConductUS · 01/11/2020 08:49

Good morning my lovelies. Smile

We've set the clocks back an hour here, so It looks like a five hour gap between NY and the UK. This will expand the "MN desert" in the evening when you've all gone off to bed and I have nothing to do but watch Netflix. I'm about to go off for my run in the cold and dark.

@Spudlet - what's keeping you from starting to run? Are you recovering from an injury?

I see we're quite close to filling up the thread again.

I've just sold our bricks after about 10 weeks of DH trying to sell them for £80. I got £60 and he seems OK with that. Now just waiting on piece of furniture on ebay, so far we are at a massive £8.50 still (though mainly wanted rid and rehomed) with 17 mins to go. DH still sleeping. Sainsburys order to collect at 10am to 11am and annoyingly we haven't got the roast lamb, they've susbstituted it for either lamb fillet or lamb shank. May need an alternative.

SilkieRabbits · 01/11/2020 08:55

I'm watching the Big Sur on Disney.

EggyPegg · 01/11/2020 09:02

DS1s rugby this morning was preemptively cancelled yesterday afternoon due to the pitch being waterlogged, so I am still in bed.

We went National Trusting yesterday as DC are obsessed with Harry Potter at the moment and they filmed parts of the first and second one at a site local to us. We then watched the second movie (first time for them) instead of Trick or Treating last night. Thought DS1 would be utterly terrified of the spiders, but that was his favourite chapter in the book so he was excited to see it. DS2 was looking forward to seeing Hermione as a cat and apparently it did not disappoint.

mathanxiety · 01/11/2020 09:03

My car is 17 years old too, and also a Honda!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/11/2020 09:03

Our clocks went back last weekend.

It is currently just after 9am here. Why are you up?!

SilkieRabbits · 01/11/2020 09:11

I've just sold the furniture for £12.50, wow. Grin

Spudlet · 01/11/2020 09:11

@MissConductUS I put my foot down a hole in the summer and sprained my ankle (trail runner woes!) and it’s not been right since - latest niggle is plantar fasciitis in that foot. So I’ve taken a week and a half off to let it settle, and I’m trying to stretch my calves out well as they’re very tight.

Really I need to see a physio, but between lockdown and money, that’s not going to happen... you can self-refer to the NHS ones but all you get is a generic sheet of emailed exercises, no consultation at all. So it’s a bit useless, tbh.

MissConductUS · 01/11/2020 10:18
