@Squirrel26 Wind up his tail, was it? Hope you aren’t too stiff - it’s a bugger when you stop bouncing 😬

We are just back from a walk and having a coffee before we tackle the jobs. Ddog is on the list of jobs - bath and haircut time for him. He is hiding under the kitchen table because he Knows. We also need to iron the school uniform, polish the school shoes, get a chilli on the go, hoover and doubtless wash the kitchen floor after the bathing, and carve a pumpkin.

MissConductUS · 31/10/2020 11:57

I was finally able to run with no rain. It was however -2 degrees out. On the plus side, there was a full moon and Mars was easy to spot. Venus seemed to be having a late-night or cba to get up.

DS's laptop arrived. DH is trying to set it up but can't without DS's Microsoft account information. DS is ignoring his texts about it.

I have a bit of time to relax this weekend before I have to present myself for yet another intrusive procedure when my tooth gets extracted on Monday. Hopefully, that will be all until Thanksgiving.

The lawn is looking rather shaggy from all of the rain. I'll see if I can convince DH to mow it one last time. It's a big lawn so takes him about an hour.

I am clearing out the kitchen cupboards and the fridge. I may leave the washing of the kitchen floor until dd has finished with her Halloween baking.

PersisFord · 31/10/2020 12:05

I found some vacuum packed beetroot in the back of the fridge, must have come in a hello fresh box as I would never buy it normally. I think I will make some hummus and add it to make it look spooky and halloweeny.

dolphinpose · 31/10/2020 12:08

I joined the bootcamp on the village green today. It was very windy and rainy but so ovely to be back outside in the world for once. I came home grinning, muddy as a dog!

dolphinpose · 31/10/2020 12:09

@PersisFord - beetroot humous is delicious. I want some now, but DH is making pumpkin soup. The smell is intoxicating - all roasty and garlicky, so it'll have to do. Grin

PersisFord · 31/10/2020 12:10

@dolphinpose that’s good! I was thinking more of aesthetics than of taste!

MissConductUS · 31/10/2020 12:19

I had to google beetroot. We just call them beets.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus If I may ask, what culture are you from where preparation of family graves for winter is done?

@dolphinpose Well done on the Bootcamp. If I don't exercise first thing in the morning it doesn't happen, and it's a nice way to start the day.

@MissConductUS
Rhine area - I'am from the Rhine/ Ruhr and DH is from Baden / French border - both catholic. The graves would look sth like that for winter.

A man was dangeling in front of my corridor window on the 5th floor when I looked up, but he's only cutting down the climbers.

MissConductUS · 31/10/2020 12:59

@Prokupatuscrakedatus Those are beautiful. What a lovely way to honor your departed family members.

I'm off to Shoprite. I hope no one tries to nick my trolley again. Grin

@Spudlet I think he was cross because he’d been made to participate in the ‘Halloween Hooligans Own A Pony Day’ earlier and it offended his dignity! Grin

Spudlet · 31/10/2020 13:48

@Squirrel26 Haha, perfectly understandable then Grin

Ddog has been given a reprieve as it’s raining and I’m not mean enough to make him have an outdoor bath in this weather. Also, we’d almost certainly be electrocuted by the clippers. So he remains a shaggy, smelly hair ball and is very happy about it.

Taswama · 31/10/2020 13:53

It has stopped raining here so am going to try and persuade DC to come for a short run. The scary movie has arrived but DP is currently steaming the wallpaper off the walls of the room we would watch it (where we can close curtains) so cannot watch it yet.

MissConductUS · 31/10/2020 14:33

I'm back from my shop. My trolley was unthreatened. They've been out of the big bags of whole milk mozzarella for making pizza for weeks and it was finally back in stock, so I got three and put them in the garage freezer.

DD is at work, DH has gone for a walk, so it's just me and the cats. I may make brownies. It's still really cold (about 2 degrees) but sunny.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 31/10/2020 14:44

@missconductus
I meant to tell you.
I made your brownies to take into the office and they were much praised! But had to be accompanied by our special (name of my employer)-coffee which is basically coffee topped with an extra espresso to keep us working.

Thank you for your comments - I love taking a walk around our cemeteries. They are full of plants and wildlife and banks to sit on.

SilkieRabbits · 31/10/2020 14:47

The writing bureau sold on ebay and the buyer has paid. Now trying to see if a collection is possible if lockdown is announced today. DH is going to fetch it from old house to here.

DD is crying as she couldn't have a sleepover with her best friend from old area as they've gone to Tier 2. Feel sorry for her but its rife around there and we're in a village of elderly.

Had a fried egg sandwich and tea, going to have spaghetti bolognese soon. DH will go down to old house as maybe last time we are allowed there for a month. Hoping house sale can still proceed.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 31/10/2020 15:03

The 10m car charging cable has arrived from the UK, the electrician is dropping it round in a little while. The 5m cable that came with the car has required really awkward parking (basically blocking the front door) to reach from the charge box to the car, so it'll be a relief to get the longer one.

sueelleker · 31/10/2020 15:14

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 31/10/2020 15:23

sue Smile

SpeedofaSloth · 31/10/2020 15:43

I have just finished helping DS with his RE homework.

Squirrel26 · 31/10/2020 15:52

It was really awful weather here earlier. Now the sun has come out so the dog and I walked 8km. Now I am sitting on a bench with hot chocolate. Dog is Looking At Stuff.

BefuddledPerson · 31/10/2020 16:05

Have been decorating for Halloween, and pottering round the garden. Have got bubble and squeak for tea that I am looking forward to very much Smile

MissConductUS · 31/10/2020 16:28

@Prokupatuscrakedatus I'm so pleased that your office colleagues liked them! Anyone who wants the recipe can PM with their email address.

I had to google beetroot. We just call them beets.

In the UK we also have sugar beet, a commercial crop used to produce the bulk of our granulated and caster sugar. In supermarkets, beet sugar is just labelled ‘sugar’ and cane sugar is labelled ‘cane sugar.’ I pay attention to the difference because cane sugar gives a better set for jams, jellies and chutneys without the need to add pectin.

We managed to get a walk in between rain showers earlier.

DS carved a Siamese cat’s face into his pumpkin in honour of Sodding. I’ll post a pic later if I can get a good one. Smile

Spudlet · 31/10/2020 17:09

Ddog once found a sugar beet that had fallen out of a tractor on a walk. It was the size of his head, no exaggeration. Could I get the bastard thing off him? Readers, I could not. He ate a good half of it over the course of the walk, because I couldn’t bloody catch him and take it away.

He had an extremely unhappy stomach for the next few days... 😬 Honestly, he’s 13 now and the fact that he’s made it to that age is little short of a miracle!
