Oh, beedroot is Rote Beete, whereas the things sugar is made of is Zuckerrübe, and a carrot is a Möhre (for me) and a Gelbe Rübe (for DH).

I seem to be constantly google-ing foodstuffs.

Squirrel26 · 31/10/2020 18:53

I have no idea what to have for dinner. So far today I’ve had 3 coffees, 2 fruit and oat cookies, some Love Hearts and the dog-walk hot chocolate.

So probably a plate of vegetables then... Blush

SpeedofaSloth · 31/10/2020 18:57

I have a glass of wine to numb the pain of the PM's briefing.

FairFridaythe13th · 31/10/2020 19:05

I’m making Macaroni cheese and chilling a very large bottle of white wine (which came as a freebie in my last wine delivery and I had put aside for Christmas, but what the hell, Christmas 2020?)

soddingkitten · 31/10/2020 19:08

We have just had an underwhelming supermarket curry for dinner. Now I want the real thing (except I am not hungry).

OublietteBravo · 31/10/2020 19:09

I have muted Boris. I’ll turn the sound back on for Strictly.

Spudlet · 31/10/2020 19:22

@OublietteBravo

I have muted Boris. I’ll turn the sound back on for Strictly.
I think life would be greatly improved if we could actually fit Boris with a mute button, and quite a few others too... most politicians, actually.

I will have to share your mac cheese as I am really hungry - you can keep the white wine though!

Other beets we have here are swedes and turnips. Though here in the NE swedes are called turnips. As I originate from London this causes me some trouble. I'm pretty sure there have been threads arguing about this.

mathanxiety · 31/10/2020 19:53

We're having mac and cheese with leftover meatballs and sauce tonight. I made pizza with a good deal of the sauce last night. The meatballs and sauce are a little like the famous Mumsnet chicken.

soddingkitten · 31/10/2020 20:31

DS has been eating the emergency lockdown Celebrations stash with me on the sly. He finished the Bounty (Bounties?) up without offering me one. We now feel sick and agreed we should stop.

We are watching Deep Impact (1998) on Netflix. DS just asked if I’d ever used a floppy disk. I told him my MSc dissertation is on floppies in a drawer upstairs. I then had to explain “dissertation”.

BaldAndWild · 31/10/2020 20:37

Dd is hinting about expensive youtuber merch for Christmas.

I have a Baileys blondie bar. Not for Christmas, just to eat now.

New improved me wore exercise clothes yesterday but then didn't do any exercise. Baby steps.

I have the jolly theme tune to Star v the forces of evil in my head. "I'm talking rainbows! I'm talking puppies!"

HelenaJustina · 31/10/2020 20:42

@SpeedofaSloth I’m having a large g&t for the same reason! Best bit of my day so far...

plominoagain · 31/10/2020 20:47

Managed to get Perdiedog out between showers so stayed dry , but forgot sunset was at 4.30 , so just made it back in the light . Fish pie made and now sitting watching SWAT ( ooohhhhhh Shemar Moore ..!) with DH and a bottle of red . Also enduring DDogs putrid farts as she ate a whole head of calabrese earlier ..

Squirrel26 · 31/10/2020 20:53

Have Chinese takeaway for dinner. Oops.

The chow mien came in a cardboard carton. Having spent my childhood watching Friends and Ally McBeal I regard this as the height of American sophistication.

MissConductUS · 31/10/2020 20:54

Math We made pizza last night to. Actually DH made it. And my son and I make mac and cheese together when he's home.

What's Mumsnet chicken?

DH took our snow blower to the shop to have it serviced. While there he looked at lawnmowers and wants to get a new one in the spring. As our current one is 17 years old I suppose that's alright. It's a Honda. I think we've gotten our money's worth from it.

Squirrel it absolutely is.

I made brownies and had a nap. DH is grilling burgers for dinner.

Putrid is a good word, much underused. I will attempt to use it soon I think.

soddingkitten · 31/10/2020 21:17

I think the MN chicken reference is to do with the mythical chicken that some posters claim they can stretch to [insert improbable number] meals for [insert probable number] people.

soddingkitten · 31/10/2020 21:18

That should have been two improbables.

Ah, I see. It's the MN version of the story of Jesus feeding the multitudes, the only miracle recorded in all four gospels. Very inspiring. Grin

Very much so, except Jesus was probably a lot less smug about the whole shebang Grin

Quite so. My understanding is that Jesus didn't "do" smug, Grin

Dinner is over and DH is doing the dishes. I'm a lucky woman. Smile

I helped DS dye his hair jet black earlier.

Given it was Halloween he would have got away with the "Morticia Adams" look, in the cold light of November 1st I suspect it won't have quite the same effect.

Apparently I am required to aid tomorrow in the dying of a bright red strip. Frankly (and somewhat sexistly I suppose) I never imagined being the mother of a teenage boy would involve this and I'm woefully ill equipped, having not dyed my own hair for at least 25 years.

The up side of lockdown is that he's not likely to be going anywhere Grin
