OhToBeASeahorse · 14/10/2020 10:46

4 days post partum. Baby fell asleep on my bed so not in a safe position so I cant leave her to go and get breakfast. Thankfully someone bought me a.box of Milk Tray that I thought I could have.

Fuck me. They are rank. I've had to eat loads cos I'm.starving and my milk has just come in but talk about wasted calories.

@Dozer

Have a friend who is a chocolate chemist (what a job eh): she says all the formulae / recipes have changed to add more oil etc - US style.

Unacceptable!

On the upside it’s made it easier to reduce my chocolate intake!

That makes sense. I was given a box of my previously favourite M&S chocolates recently and they were awful. Very bland & overly sweet with a slimy texture. I bet they’ve added more oil too.

Luckily my husband has very little sense of taste so he is eating them!

Crayolo · 14/10/2020 11:44

There's very few chocolates I like now, good for the waistline I suppose, but still dissapointing. Congratulations on the new addition to your family, it took me a while to get into the swing of things regarding food etc- I soon adapted and made sure my bedside table always had food and during the day used a flask for hot drinks as less chance of a spillage and kept it nice and warm!

KaliforniaDreamz · 14/10/2020 11:44

Twirls are still ok! get a job lot of those.

VinylDetective · 14/10/2020 11:45

Waitrose Single Origin 49% Milk Chocolate. You’re welcome.

Sexnotgender · 14/10/2020 11:46

@Mrsjayy

Well you powered through them Grin
😂😂

The people saying "why did you still eat it/why didnt you leave the baby to get something else" or idiots. I would have still eaten it, even while full of resentment at the flavour because its chocolate. I think someone else already recommended Tony's chocolonely - I found the half and half chocolate bar they do is the closest in flavour to how I remember Cadbury's chocolate used to taste (I spent a lot of time researching this.)

Sexnotgender · 14/10/2020 11:49

@JamieLeeCurtains

Something awful happened to Terrys Chocolate Orange as well.

It's an orange conspiracy.

And anything like quality street and roses. All utter shite.

Congratulations OP Flowers

Swimmum1206 · 14/10/2020 11:51

@unmarkedbythat

They used to be such a treat and now they are the chocolates you buy for someone you really dislike but have to play nice with (although I am sure that is not what the person who gave them to you was thinking!!!)
Someone recently gave me a box after I made them redundant! He said they were a thank you for giving him an opportunity in the first place. Now I know different!!
KaliforniaDreamz · 14/10/2020 11:55

Congrats OP how is it all going?

Howlooseisyourgoose · 14/10/2020 11:56

I was surprised to find big boxes of Godiva truffles in Home Bargains for £3. Very nice too.

Doubleyikes · 14/10/2020 11:58

Congrats on your baby. Milk Tray is just a box full of disappointment. I hope you get some superior chocolates soon.

lookhappy · 14/10/2020 11:58

Cadbury's is now, sadly, an abomination. Sad times. Birmingham's best no more.

Taikoo · 14/10/2020 12:00

Its the palm oil.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 14/10/2020 12:02

I'm allergic to chocolate but used to be able to tolerate one or two squares of Dairy Milk without the symptoms becoming too unbearable. I can't bring myself to even do that any more because it's awful. I can't manage any other brands than Cadburys without the rash, itching and nausea so it's goodbye to chocolate.

HollowTalk · 14/10/2020 12:02

Green and Blacks is what you want - you need to drop a lot of hints.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 14/10/2020 12:04

My friend uses a small beer fridge as her bedside table. It's full of snacks and has her teasmade on top. At first I was Hmm but now I'm ooooooohhhhh, someone's way ahead of their time.

schnubbins · 14/10/2020 12:04

Cadburys now tastes like Hersheys .I stopped eating any chocolate or sweets when we moved to the US in 2003 .Everything tasted so bad.Even my kids didn't eat the sweets and chocolate for a while after we arrived.Its absolutely unbelievable that the powers that be could have allowed a really good product like Cadburys to be so decimated and that it now takes like that awful gunk called Hersheys.The mind boggles as to who thought that would be a good idea.

Wheytaminute · 14/10/2020 12:04

Correct OP - Milk Tray are foul. Although I have never liked them. The fillings were a bit too strange.

Top chocolate choices here are Aldi milk chocolate in a bar - not the cheapest one , the next price band up. (still a bargain). Or Guylian-a-like seashells.

Ask DH to nip out and get you those. Smile

SoulofanAggron · 14/10/2020 12:05

They aren't particularly nice. Thornton's classics are my favourite.

Vinorosso74 · 14/10/2020 12:05

What a disappointment OP. Milk Tray (along with Dairy Box and Black Magic) remind me of my grandparents as they would always have some and offer them around when we visited.

gandalf456 · 14/10/2020 12:05

Send them to me

goldfinchfan · 14/10/2020 12:05

why doesn't everyone stop buying Cadburys?

They betrayed the workforce by closing the factory........took it to Europe

They are making shite choc but there are so many good ones to try.

If people just stopped buying them the new owners would learn a lesson!

OP don't worry about what people say a 4 day old babe is so fragile I would have been nervy too but buy a stack of decent protein bars for other times......as babies will fall asleep and leave you stuck.

Youhavetobejoking · 14/10/2020 12:06

Completely agree. Now vile....used to be a treat. (Well-the caramels & turkish delight ones anyway!).

TheVanguardSix · 14/10/2020 12:06

How even on a thread like this do people have to be rude?

It's MN. Come on, OP. You've given birth! You can handle a bit of MN cynicism. You've got this! Grin

As for chocolate... you need- let me emphasize this- you need a bar of Tony's chocolonely (red bar or yellow, is my advice- go for red. It's straight up milk chocolate). It's worth the calories.

Congratulations! Flowers

TheVanguardSix · 14/10/2020 12:11

Cadburys now tastes like Hersheys

American here. Nothing tastes like Hershey's. Not even Cadbury's has stooped that low. Hershey's kisses taste of vomit. No, they really do. It's like they use burnt/sour milk in their chocolate. It's very acidic and just gross. I'll take a Milk Tray over Hershey's all day long. Bournville is still good though... I think? I like Bournville chocolate. I'm not a dark chocolate fan but this one I like.
