4 days post partum. Baby fell asleep on my bed so not in a safe position so I cant leave her to go and get breakfast. Thankfully someone bought me a.box of Milk Tray that I thought I could have.

Fuck me. They are rank. I've had to eat loads cos I'm.starving and my milk has just come in but talk about wasted calories.

OP posts:

Milk tray used to be my favourite. There used to be a milk tray bar! They were amazing. Lime barrel! I'm going back a few years though. They are disgusting now as is all Cadbury's chocolate these days. OP congratulations on your new baby. Hopefully she won't judge you when your milk is tainted by the taste of Cadbury's!

CaveMum · 14/10/2020 15:14

@VinylDetective I can imagine! A friend of mine bought a shed load of discounted Valentine’s chocolate a few years ago and gave it out as Easter gifts.

Sloth66 · 14/10/2020 15:35

Guess it’s the palm oil that gives that horrible after taste and coats the mouth in oily residue too.

Horrible stuff. I stopped buying Cadbury when the reneged on their promise to keep a uk factory open and people lost their jobs.
Plus of course, it tastes nasty now.
Aldi chocolate is good, no palm oil, tastes nice and good quality.

MintyMabel · 14/10/2020 15:52

I really have gone off Cadbury’s chocolate. Lots of people spoke about the new recipe when it first came out and I thought they were mad, it still tasted fine. I really don’t like it now though, it is sickly sweet with a weird texture.

Give me Galaxy any day.

These are my go to now.
No palm, soy - minimal ingredients you can pronounce. Taste lovely.

Oh, and they snap, rather than bend.

Pbbananabagel · 14/10/2020 16:00

I feel like this every time I have one of those Lindt round truffles in the red wrapper. Deeply unsatisfying and yet... if they’re there I eat them Blush

Mil hands round the tin, everyone takes one, then she puts it away. That's ok now, with the grim sweets, not back in the days of nice chocolates.
Chocolate and a baby! What a combination.

Howlooseisyourgoose · 14/10/2020 18:12

Flavoured vegetable fat is what I’ve heard most chocolate described as.

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 14/10/2020 18:35

In 1970... they were the stuff of dreams. But we were poor 😂

Inspired by this thread I bought some Tony’s Chocolloney Milk. Oh my days, it was so good!

Janevaljane · 14/10/2020 23:00

I think Tony's tastes cheap too!

I like Ritter

Doubleyikes · 14/10/2020 23:42

I agree Ritter is really good stuff. I love it when I visit DB in Germany and they have flavours we don’t get here.

LanaDelBoy · 14/10/2020 23:49

I have a secret.
An expensive secret.
I always thought Lindt were cheapo oily-ball producers (not that I can't happily finish a box of Lindor, but yknow, I'm not kidding myself they're quality chocs).

Lindt Swiss Selection - oh my. They're what boxed chocolates should be! They're not all samey like loads of other boxes. Lots of nutty/praline/caramel and even a decent coffee one. But at £8-15 a box not cheap.
Haven't tried the dessert selection but suspect they'd be too sweet.

Agree re Milk Tray btw. Find most chocolates disappointing these days!

Deux · 15/10/2020 00:14

Agree about Ritter. I wish it was more widely available. The praline is my favourite but it’s always out of stock in Lidl.

Anordinarymum · 15/10/2020 00:17

@Wallabyone

I got given a box of these recently and was sorely disappointed to learn that a) they've got rid of the Turkish Delight, and b) they are all very mediocre.
Got rid of the Turkish Delight you say ?? How very dare they. It's the only decent chocolate anyway apart from the caramel one and the strawberry creme and the orange creme and the coconut one and the one that is all chocolate :)
eggandonion · 15/10/2020 13:44

The lindt desserts are very, very sweet. which means you should ration yourself to one at a time. Really.

JovialNickname · 15/10/2020 15:05

@Haggled

You all need to try Ritter Sport. It's not very giftable as it's only sold in bars, but it is divine. It's German so no American oily gunk in there! You can get lots of flavour choices in Lidl, possibly Aldi too. I've seen it in Asda on occasion. The best ones are cornflake, butter biscuit, and praline.
Ritter Sport is amazing. Also, its tagline is "Qualitat im Quadrat" (they come in square bars) which is very German and immensely pleasing!
Autumngoldleaf · 15/10/2020 17:02

I'm another that laments the good old days when milk tray were nice.

Slimy crap now.

I don't know who does proper chockates I've tried a few recommended on here but they are sort of too ganache or dark.

Autumngoldleaf · 15/10/2020 17:06

Lana I'm not fond of lindt, not even their Swiss box.

Deathraystare · 15/10/2020 17:07

Sad that you only had that shit to eat. I hate Cadbury's now. Everything is being Americanised.

Hopefully someone kind will give you some lovely choccies soon. Put the word out! Decent chox only!!!

Vinorosso74 · 15/10/2020 17:27

This thread made me go into Hotel Chocolat today and buy some chocolate!

Deathraystare · 15/10/2020 18:23

But isn't Hotel Chocolate American. I could have sworn I saw something about their HQ in USA.

hollyandkit · 15/10/2020 18:33

@JamieLeeCurtains

Something awful happened to Terrys Chocolate Orange as well.

It's an orange conspiracy.

Yes! Had my first one in ages today and it was all SHINY ffs.
