4 days post partum. Baby fell asleep on my bed so not in a safe position so I cant leave her to go and get breakfast. Thankfully someone bought me a.box of Milk Tray that I thought I could have.

Fuck me. They are rank. I've had to eat loads cos I'm.starving and my milk has just come in but talk about wasted calories.

@Deathraystare

But isn't Hotel Chocolate American. I could have sworn I saw something about their HQ in USA.
Its HQ is in Herts and its factory is in Huntingdon. It owns a cocoa plantation in St Lucia.

The massive bar of Green & Blacks milk chocolate I literally inhaled after baby number 2. Or maybe 3 - who knows was one of my greatest eating experiences ever. I could FEEL my blood sugar rise.
Sad that Milk Tray is shit though. I got a box (just for me) for my 12th birthday and literally thought I was living a life of unparalleled luxury and glamour. And in 1985 I was I guess.

I hope you enjoy your lovely babe. The description of him/her on the Muslin made me momentarily broody. And I hope someone buys you fab chocolate and brings you lots of tea & toast too Flowers

Cadbury's chocolate is totally inedible now. Vile tasting stuff. Someone should have been punished for what they did to Dairy Milk & Cream Eggs. (& I'm talking something with boiling oil here, not a fine & probation).

Oh that's good then, thanks. Did not want another bloody Hershey taste alike!

I have some more bad news. M&S chocolate is also rank. Or at least so I discovered when I was given a fancy box last year (one layer, beautifully packaged, over priced, Easter box). Just Say NO to M&S chocolate now.

Maybe the individual bars are still nice? They used to be great. But last time I had one was a long time ago - certainly back in the good old Cadbury's days...

SlopesOff · 16/10/2020 14:59

Green & Black is foul. Tastes like cardboard.
Thorntons is crap.
Lidl used to be nice but somehow has become far too sweet so that is also off my list.

Just buy Tony's and maybe one day they will make gift boxes as well as bars.

And this is a prime example if the shit food to expect after Brexit Sad

We treated ourselves to a selection box recently: nearly all of the box was 'dark' chocolate and all the different varieties of dark tasted the same - of absolutely nothing, just hard to chew and tasteless. Only good stuff was the milk varieties, but only 2 of these in a big selection box - bizarre.

Any Cadbury choc now is rank and has been for ages! A box of chocs used to be a treat, it's now really hard to find decent ones without spending a fortune! There's no "middle range" now there's cheap crap like milk tray or Uber expensive options

I agree, rookie error not making sure you have food and drink to hand before lying or sitting with baby anywhere and therefore trapping yourself in the early days. Grin

I used to use an old squash bottle to have made up squash in to drink from through the day while then husband was at work, bf is thirsty work! But even if not bf just makes life easier.

Also snacks, nothing wrong with less healthy ones like choc if that's what you fancy but depending on how you are with bowel movements at the moment (bf can really dry you out) you might want to include some prepped/easy to eat fruit, veg and dried fruit. There's a reason grapes are a traditional thing to take to immobile hospital patients inc new mums, they keep things moving, I ate a lot of choc covered raisins Grin

Congratulations by the way Thanks

@JamieLeeCurtains terrys now owned by same as Cadbury's I used to love all gold they're now shit too!

I sometimes find rank chocolate is ok if melted and made into chocolate krispies. the rank palm oil shit doesn't melt! It turns into crumbly putty like texture bit like play doh (and play doh probably tastes better!)

Frankly they shouldn't be allowed to call it chocolate!

My friend uses a small beer fridge as her bedside table. It's full of snacks and has her teasmade on top. excellent planning!

why doesn't everyone stop buying Cadburys? people who aren't choc eaters (yes they exist weirdos Grin) buy it for others, youngsters who don't remember how it used to be are fooled, some just have poor taste skills/ability

They've managed to make Cadbury more profitable on paper BUT that's largely been due to selling outside the uk and streamlining manufacture so that they have reduced overheads.

In real life I've found very few people know what happened and even that the recipe changed. A friend of mine who now lives overseas was home recently and treated herself to a large bar of dairy milk for her and her son, she ended up apologising to her son for building his hopes up as it was rotten and certainly not what she remembered from her own childhood. We have a lot of friends in common and only a few inc myself were aware of what had happened both in terms of changing the product and screwing over the Uk staff.
