Just trying to live a meaningful life in an increasingly bizarre world in which nothing makes sense any more.

@Littlebelina

Breakfast buffet in Italy had tiramisu on it.

I love a hotel buffet breakfast even rubbish ones. Miss them a lot

I would eat tiramisu for breakfast so very, very happily!
CruCru · 02/10/2020 19:39

Oh God, so would I. I love tiramisu.

I stayed in a hotel in South Africa that had oysters in the breakfast buffet AND an afternoon tea including cakes. It was terrific.

Bollss · 02/10/2020 19:43

I love an afternoon tea. We are having afternoon tea for our wedding (if it ever happens!) And then pizzas at night to soak up the booze if that's ever allowed again!

CruCru · 02/10/2020 19:47

That sounds wonderful. I now really want cake.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 02/10/2020 19:48

Oh god hotel buffet breakfast when you are on your holidays and still havent properly rubbed in the sun tan lotion.

I miss the kids coming back with a mountain of pancakes and nutella, followed by an omelette, because there's a man there making them fresh while you watch and it looks fun.

We always got our money's worth on the hotel buffet breakfast, you might sting me on the cost of the tiny tubs of pringles at the beach bar, but my dcs are hitting that buffet breakfast like they are eating for a week.

I miss normal life. All the fun things have been rubbed out and I've just been left with the work and the ironing and the arguing about homework...

countrygirl99 · 02/10/2020 19:49

What's a spa day? What's a 5 star hotel? Is it one with a big hole in the roof?

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 02/10/2020 19:49

Also I will need details of the cake for breakfast italian hotel. Sounds like a hotel that knows how to do holiday excess properly!

AgentCooper · 02/10/2020 19:51

Oh I adore a hotel buffet breakfast. One of my greatest regrets is how hungover I was on the morning after BIL’s wedding because the breakfast was square slice, links, tattie scones, black pudding, hash browns, fried bread as far as the eye could see.

AgentCooper · 02/10/2020 19:52

Sorry, the regret part is that I felt extremely sick and couldn’t eat any of it.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 02/10/2020 19:58

Afternoon tea wedding sounds lovely! I do hope normal weddings are allowed again soon.

BogRollBOGOF · 02/10/2020 20:08

I think we've got a theme for our next thread "ADs crave hotel breakfasts garnished with phallic strawberries" Grin

In my head the departed intel talks like Rik from The Young Ones (If you’re under 45 google it!)

I really think these men don’t realise how utterly creepy they sound.

Anyway, I have been fortunate to stay at some very posh hotels and invariably the breakfasts aren’t as good as a decent B&B.

RobinHobb · 02/10/2020 20:15

I just love decadent breakfasts when I am not cooking them...
Blueberry pancakes with maple syrup and bacon.
I love ihop. The only reason I'd go back to the us is ihop.

JamSarnie · 02/10/2020 20:15

Premier inn breakfasts are great.

How I miss buffet breakfasts Sad

Oh that made me laugh Grin Wik, the People’s Poet. Accurate, though...

Oh my god save me from the hypocrites!
I have a friend who works in a care home. she is constantly on social media in her ppe and mask telling everyone to stick to the rules as people like her on the frontline have seen how terrible this virus is....
And now she is on hols in tyneside with no intention of quarantining when she gets back, she'll just get a test and see if it comes back negative.
So now she is potentially putting all these people at risk.
I'm pretty anti dementor and critical of the roolz (still comply though) but this makes me deeply uncomfortable.
Is it terrible that given the risk to the people she cares for and the bloody hypocrisy does it make me a bad person thinking "I hope she gets a bloody fine"?

Hypocrite indeed of the worst kind. One time I wouldn't blame anyone for snitching. The people in the care home can't see their own relatives and this carer is proving she doesn't give a toss.

@WouldBeGood

My favourite hotel breakfasts are premier inn buffets. Now deceased because of Covid

But I bring good news! I have it on good authority that Premier Inns are still doing the full range of breakfast items, but as table service. BUT you can have as many sausages/ hash browns etc etc as you want.

Mention of the fried egg sandwich in a paper bag would actually do for me.

I have to do some frivolous shopping tomorrow, for better socks. Winter is indeed coming.

Bollss · 02/10/2020 21:01

Is anyone trying to make the best of potentially being locked inside all winter?

I usually effing hate winter but I want to temporarily become one of those people who loves the cold weather and snuggling on the sofa and bla bla.

I hate all those things. I don't mind the occasional snuggle but only time I get one is when ds dictates what is on TV which is usually shite.

Tell me how to enjoy what is otherwise going to be a shit winter ads!

Taswama · 02/10/2020 21:01

Self catering these days but you have reminded me of some lovely buffets:
Ferry between Germany and Norway - lots of fish
Breakfast buffet at SAS hotel in Norway
Buffet in Mexico including scrambled eggs with chorizo

So lovely to eat stuff I don't usually get a chance to or kids don't like.

The plus point here is that the kids have now hit the age where they're developing a bit of an interest in "normal" telly (although Operation Ouch and Horrible Histories remain household viewing) so we tend to have an hour or so under a big weighted blanket on an evening watching recorded Bake Off, or Strictly, or Red Bull Soapbox Racing which they love. They like Robot Wars when it's repeated as well - although I'm beginning to fear they'll turn the toaster into some kind of psycho robot soapbox if they get any more ideas.

My student loan comes in on Monday so I'm spending the weekend mentally spending it. Think I might buy some pre-done flower planters from the flower guy on the market to make my view from my desk a bit prettier for endless fucking video calls. Have also bought yet more lovely pens and stationery - I have a LOT (DD1 has inherited my addiction) - despite the fact I tend to do all my notes on my flipping iPad with my apple pencil anyway!

Thanksitsgotpockets · 02/10/2020 21:10

I'm confused. I couldn't make sense of Larry's message and the point he was trying to make. After we supposed to be going on spa days/upset we can't go on spa days, or resentful of those going on spa days?

I stayed in a 5 start hotel once. It was a bit crap because they didn't have a kettle in the room. You were supposed to phone and order a hot drink at an extortionate price when you wanted one. Give me a premier inn any day. I'll make my own cuppa, thankyou very much.
