Sometimes when you need a good cry, you can always guarantee these films would make you cry.

What are yours?

Marley and me
War horse
(In fact most sad animal films)

And I’ve literally just watched Deep Impact and I cried again!

Karate kid 🤦‍♀️. Watched it tonight with the kids, hadn't seen it for 20 years +

Tatapie · 06/09/2020 00:33

@NeutralJanet

Mamma Mia, when they sing Slipping Through My Fingers.
Came on to say this! Just have to head the music.. Was a bit embarrassing in the theatre though, bawling my eyes out!
Tatapie · 06/09/2020 00:36

@MostIneptThatEverStepped

The Railway Children 😭
Oh Lordy other one! I went to theatre and so sobbed loudly one of the actor s made eye contact and smiled sympathetically! Shouldn't have wine at the interval!
Tatapie · 06/09/2020 00:37

Last film I cried at was Military Wives

FurryGiraffe · 06/09/2020 00:41

And Brassed Off. The bit where Phil loses it at the harvest festival and then tries to hang himself still in his clown costume. Crying and laughing at the same time!

I start crying when Tara Fitzgerald picks up a trumpet, and I stop after the credits. But Phil at the harvest festival and Danny's speech at the end just break me.

nearlynermal · 06/09/2020 00:42

Up.

When the old man lost his soulmate I just started sobbing, couldn't care less that he'd befriended some random kid.

Vinotinto78 · 06/09/2020 00:44

I read War Horse to my youngest during lockdown (I’d never read it before). He kept asking me why I was sobbing. The film was alright but didn’t affect me half as much as the book. It didn’t do justice to Topthorn‘s death 😭.

daisychain1620 · 06/09/2020 00:45

@flametrees Love Actually, yes her devastation but utter drive to keep a happy front for her kids kills me😢
@Poshjock Mr Bing Bong, how they sing their song before he fades😭
Why do I keep coming back here lol I clearly love a good cry!
Anything one else blub at Bohemian Rhapsody?

simpson · 06/09/2020 00:53

My Girl
Steel Magnolias
Beaches
The colour Purple (every time)
Million dollar baby
Boys don’t cry

Inthebackoftheimpala · 06/09/2020 01:02

So many. It was so bad as a child dad banned me from watching The Littlest Hobo 😭.

Off the top of my head though

Imitation of Life
Riding in Cars with Boys
Peggy Sue got married

BrandyandBabycham · 06/09/2020 01:23

Oh my goodness The Railway Children - “ Daddy oh my Daddy”. If you don’t cry at that you have a heart of stone!

BrandyandBabycham · 06/09/2020 01:24

And absolutely yes at Bohemian Rhapsody!

BrandyandBabycham · 06/09/2020 01:25

Wishingwell75 · 06/09/2020 01:56

Always cry at Its A Wonderful Life, it gets me every time as does Shawshank - "get busy living or get busy dying." But then I also cry at Mr Bloody Bo Jangles - the line where he sings "you see son I drinks a bit" yes I know it was a film question not songs but just thought I'd mention it.Grin

EyeSeeWhatYouDidThere · 06/09/2020 02:12

Agree with Beaches, saw that as a cold hearted teen and that managed to melt the ice a bit.

The Greatest Showman, not helped by the fact I picked an instrumental version of "A Million Dreams" to be played during our wedding so I cry if I even hear the song!

Hacksaw Ridge: I found really moving, and that made me cry. I was pregnant at the time though so not sure if that was a factor. I cry at all sorts now Grin

Inarightpickleandpreserve · 06/09/2020 02:22

Thelma and Louise, every time I’m a wreck

Graphista · 06/09/2020 02:47

Up Close & Personal

Omg yes, when she sees the shoe!

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 06/09/2020 03:40

Pretty much every film already mentioned. Actually pretty much every film ever. But NOT P.S I love you (the book was amazing. The film was wank). And NOT The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (the book and the film were wank)

I'm going to add Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, when Harry brings Cedric's body back and then Amos realises he's dead and runs down shouting "my boy my boy". I've got a lump in my throat just thinking about it.

Also Big Hero 6 when they teach him to fist bump.

Bohemian Rhapsody - I proper ugly-cried for the whole of the last twenty minutes. Took me completely unawares. It was like Freddie - and my childhood - had come back to life.

LunaNorth · 06/09/2020 08:12

Oh god, I’ve remembered another. Million Dollar Baby. What a devastating film.
