Films that always make you cry

Sometimes when you need a good cry, you can always guarantee these films would make you cry.

What are yours?

Marley and me
War horse
(In fact most sad animal films)

And I’ve literally just watched Deep Impact and I cried again!

The end of A Star is Born 😭😭

alula · 05/09/2020 15:31

Yes, A Star is Born. I've only seen the Lady Gaga version and didn't know anything about it before watching it. I was absolutely sobbing.

Forrest Gump. When he's talking to Jenny's grave.

Toy Story 3, when they're all holding hands heading towards the furnace.

Harry Potter...
"After all this time?"
"Always"

I cry at everything.

MMM2 · 05/09/2020 15:49

Forrest Gump
Any disney film.
A star is born.
P.s. I love you.

piefacedClique · 05/09/2020 15:52

The impossible. We use it in school and every time I end up a blithering mess in front of year 8!

CaffeineInfusion · 05/09/2020 15:59

I suddenly found myself crying yesterday at Sense and Sensibility.

I had the sudden realisation that I had my very own Willoughby.

Tosser.

Sarahbeans · 05/09/2020 16:00

I cry and literally every film going. Trouble is I love the true movies, so I'm always blubbering.

The most recent one for me was Philomena. But others include Cider House Rules, I know my first name is Steven, and practically every Holocaust movie going.

NastyBlouse · 05/09/2020 16:07

Moonlight. Pretty much all the way through. Just so much self-repression, fear and loss.

Pinkstars2501 · 05/09/2020 16:11

Ghost
A monster calls
P.s I Love You
A Star is Born
Steel Magnolias

I'm sure there are MANY more!

Graphista · 05/09/2020 16:11

You’re all amateurs 😂

For a really good tearjerker try

Who will love my children
Madam x
Imitation of life
Blackboard jungle
What dreams may come (haven’t been able to watch this since Robin Williams passing)
Kramer vs Kramer

Agree with

stepmom
Beaches
Marley and me
Terms of endearment
Steel magnolias
Good will hunting
The impossible
The fault in our stars (dd dragged me along and I was sceptical but it was good)

It’s when the mum is tucking her children into bed and the old couple are laid in bed together with the water rushing in

Yep I agree with this too, not least because these elements were based upon what explorers of the titanic really found, I believe they found bodies/skeletons in certain places positions that relate to this.

About time - excellent call, great film

Sittin · 05/09/2020 16:23

Needhelp - I cried so much in Paddington 2 that my jumper was wet. I had a quick glance around the cinema & it was full of blubbing grownups 🤣 (actually 😭). DH once cried at an episode of catchphrase because the contestant was ‘just so happy and she’s never taken her mum on holiday before’.

Skingaling · 05/09/2020 16:24

I have no interest in watching films that make me cry!

Girlyracer · 05/09/2020 16:26

Out of Africa
Cinema Paradiso
Somewhere in Time

Willow2017 · 05/09/2020 16:30

LOVE Deep Impact. The two moments that always get me are when Jenny snatches Kerry Weavers daughter from her and runs up the stairs to the helicopter pad - and on the beach, clinging to her Daddy
And when the mum gives her daughter the baby so take on the bike with them as they know the car won't be going anywhere.😢
Steel Magnolias when SF runs out the hospital to get her grandson and picks him up and hugs him.
Dead Poets Society "captain my Captain"
Railway children the end every sodding time!
E.T.
Phillidelphia. In the courtroom and the end.
Signs when his wife dies.

But then I cry easily, too much imagination!

Quirrelsotherface · 05/09/2020 16:33

Beaches
Ghost
Titanic

With all of them it's the music I think!

Bakedbeanhead · 05/09/2020 16:39

The Gladiator film every time, the bit at the end where he dies and goes back to his family through the wheat field. Gets me every time, I think it’s the music. Can feel my eyes welling up now!

johnstownflood · 05/09/2020 16:46

Planes, trains and automobiles, I loved John Candy and the last ten minutes gets me every time.

Aardvarkitsabloodyaardvark · 05/09/2020 16:50

Edward Scissorhands
Harry Potter (the always bit and when Snape dies)
Peggy Sue got married

I cry a lot to be fair 😂

thefourgp · 05/09/2020 16:52

Dumbo
Last of the Mohicans
Steel Magnolias

Aardvarkitsabloodyaardvark · 05/09/2020 16:53

The part with Peggy Sue is when she goes back and sees her sister, Mum and Grandparents. Just makes me miss mine more.

Mummykins54 · 05/09/2020 16:55

'Who will love my children?' sounds vaguely familiar. I think I may have seen it and wiped it from my memory!

SolitudeIsHighlyOverrated · 05/09/2020 17:03

Mask with Cher and Eric Stoltz
Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe
