We’ve just had the mother of thunderstorms!

bloodyhell, haven’t experienced one that ferocious for years! Terribly loud thunder, the type that shakes your home. Flash flooding too in some areas.

But now we’ve got sunshine and warmth again🙂

Have you had a thunderstorm?

I've never seen a thunder/lightning storm that's lasted so long in the UK. Here in Fife it started before 9pm and is still rumbling on with lightning flashing ever 5 seconds or so. Just when I thought 2020 couldn't get any weirder. 🤪

Beebityboo · 12/08/2020 00:56

One been happening here for about an hour in the Midlands. No rain or thunder just constant bright lightning, very weird!

CheshireChav · 12/08/2020 00:56

Near Macclesfield in Cheshire and it's like something off a film here!!

Its gonna miss the east Midlands isn't it?
Pretty lightning show but no rain or thunder.

Crossincontinents · 12/08/2020 01:07

@CheshireChav I'm in Congleton. It's been going on over 2.5 hours. I don't think I've ever experienced as big a thunderstorm as this in this country.

SistemaAddict · 12/08/2020 01:19

It's like a Film set here. I've never seen anything like it in my life. Such huge forks of lightning. I woke up ds to watch as he'd be upset to miss out. We are between Manchester and Sheffield and I've been watching it approach on the map. Congleton and Stoke are lit up like Christmas!

exLtEveDallas · 12/08/2020 06:59

In Worcestershire, last night around 11pm we had lightning for an hour but barely any thunder, an no rain at all. Didn’t clear the air at all and sleeping last night was almost impossible. Got a couple of good photos though.

im in west lothian and it started here about 10ish and finally stopped about an hour ago,ive not slept all night

KatherineJaneway · 12/08/2020 08:08

Have done nothing today as I feel sick and headachy.

Know how you feel. I did get a few things done in the morning but the afternoon was so hot and humid.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 12/08/2020 08:13

The one here in East Lothian was epic. The worst here I've ever seen. Inevitable since the builders took the roof off our conservatory yesterday. We had to use the pond vac to pump the water out. Bit tired this morning.

babbi · 12/08/2020 08:16

I’ve just woken up in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland and apparently wild storms have been going on all night 🤷‍♀️
Who knew !
I slept through it all 😂

KoalasandRabbit · 12/08/2020 08:40

We are now due them this afternoon and so looking forward to a cooler temperature after as been feeling sick and headachy as well in heat. The thatchers have taken off the entire back half of our roof now but I'm presuming they've seen the forecast and have done this many times before as they work all year round.

MrsLangOnionsMcWeetabix · 12/08/2020 08:48

We had 6 solid hours of it last night in central Scotland. Never seen anything like it! Roads are closed, there’s bad flooding and it’s still really muggy.

funkyblackbird · 12/08/2020 08:50

We had the lightning last night as well but not a proper thunderstorm. The humidity and temperature this morning is already too much.

DGRossetti · 12/08/2020 09:50

@MadisonAvenue

I’m in the Midlands and we had an hour or so of constant lightning, without any thunder, which we could see in three directions (over Birmingham and Walsall from one window, Telford from another and Stafford from another), now we’ve got thunder, lightning and heavy rain. It’s still so hot and sticky though.
DW really feels the heat (having MS), so days like yesterday and today are hell.

However, last night between around 8pm and 10pm we had a beautiful lightning show - with muted or silent thunder. Proper forks of lightning that seemed to grow sideways and from the ground. Then as it passed, there was a residual flickering from the clouds for a good 40 minutes. Seemed to come from the NW of the city. Would have looked awesome from Barr Beacon or somewhere high. As it was we sat outside with a drink and watched it pass.

I'd say it was the best storm I've seen in the UK in years.

There was about a minute of rain with it.

Kinda makes up for not seeing the meteors.

Kinda makes up for not seeing the meteors

It did!

justasking111 · 12/08/2020 15:31

Oh joy, it is back in N Wales, rolling thunder from north to south looking at the lightning map. To be honest the humidity and heat this morning here was pretty grim.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 12/08/2020 15:46

We finally got some rain at 11 last night but it was pretty feeble and gave up after 15 minutes

Charles11 · 12/08/2020 15:58

Stupid weather forecast is driving me mad.
NE London storms expected at 1pm, then 2pm then 3pm now it’s saying 7pm. Still blazing sun. I’ve had enough. It’s so hot.

MarshaBradyo · 12/08/2020 16:02

London 33 here meant to rain, raining later now. Glad I did that wash after all

GinWithRosie · 12/08/2020 16:04

Seems like there are storms everywhere except over my garden 😂😂 (ok I'm exaggerating slightly!). But all week I've seen friends, the news and the weather forecast (and MN!) posting about lightening storms and rain, and it's cracking the flags in Lincs! 🥵 Not a sniff of a cloud and not been below 30 degrees all week (33 in my garden yesterday, I was dying...🥵)

Please...send it this way! 👍

GinWithRosie · 12/08/2020 16:06

Oh...and Alexa lies!! She's promised rain/thunderstorms EVERY BLOODY DAY!!! Liar liar, wires on fire! 🔥

BruceAndNosh · 12/08/2020 16:07

I was so busy watching the lightning map that I failed to notice that my washing was getting rained on!

DGRossetti · 12/08/2020 16:07

We had rain forecast for 4pm-6pm ... right up to 3:30.

Not a drop. 33 outside now, and 29 inside.
