Does anybody else feel like crap due to the heat?

I'm a very pale person and don't bode well when it's this hot. I'm in London where we've had absolutely roasting, humid weather.

My flat becomes sauna-like and no amount of having the fan on or opening window's makes a difference.

For days I've felt completely drained, weak and nauseous.

I'm not moaning, I'm glad people take joy from the sun, I'm just wondering if anybody else finds they've been feeling very bleugh too?

When it is this hot I can't sleep. Then I feel tired and drained the next day. I have stayed in until late evening to walk dog but even hot then. I am drinking loads of iced water. Thank goodness for the fridge that has this.

The plastic bottle mountain is an environmental disaster.

So is the increase in air con use. Hmm

MiniMum97 · 11/08/2020 23:16

Found a amazing thing this evening. I have been roasting all day sweating and feeling exhausted and awful. Headache all day yesterday and today.

This evening, stuck my feet in a bowl of cold water. Totally sorted me out. My husband did as well. He says he's working with his feet in a bowl of cold water tomorrow!

Von1986 · 11/08/2020 23:20

I don't know how many more days of this I can handle. It really does feel like groundhog day Sad

Because of how unwell the heat makes me feel I just can't function properly, it's starting to affect my mental health - as ridiculous as that sounds.

Other than forcing myself out for a meal yesterday I haven't left the house properly in days. I'm WFH at the moment and I don't know if that's a blessing or a curse.

Our sofa is leather and I'm sticking to it because I simply can't wear anything other than shorts in this heat, so we have towels down on the seats because we're sweating endlessly Blush

My son has hair as described by PP and he's struggling, poor little thing.

DH has air con at work and I'm very jealous.

Hope everybody else is coping as best they can, lawd can you imagine the grilling I would have got if I started this in AIBU Grin

Going to try the feet in a bowl of cold water immediately!

Evenstar · 11/08/2020 23:41

It’s 30° C in our bedroom tonight, I have had a cool shower and decamped to the sofa with the dogs giant cool mat under a sheet and the biggest fan in the house. I am really feeling I will actually be very ill unless this heat breaks ☹️

Emmy2020 · 12/08/2020 01:28

Please will it just rain! I’m pregnant and can not cope with this heat anymore. Decided to go and sleep downstairs as cooler than upstairs. Have a fan on and still too hot. I can’t get comfortable so just sat on the floor, wish I could go to sleep.

Nutellalovesme · 12/08/2020 02:30

I always feel completely drained in this weather.

Roll on the heavy rain and thunder! Smile

wheretogothisyear · 12/08/2020 02:33

Oh I hate this weather too, between 20-23
IS nice but anymore Is unbearable. I'm in London too, I've been at home
With my 4 children for days. Everyone is getting irritated because if the heat. I really really hope it cools down. On the plus side I'm off to Scotland on Monday l, really wish I was there this week though.

Tinsellball · 12/08/2020 07:15

I felt unwell with the heat yesterday.

It's starting to heat up already :(

MadameBrioche · 12/08/2020 08:02

I was on a work Zoom call yesterday and could feel sweat literally dripping off me in big drops. It was horrific and I must have looked a state. Going to try having my feet in a bowl of cold water for the next one.

stripeyplant · 12/08/2020 08:34

Since yesterday I've had this massive pressure in my head, but it's not like a headache as it doesn't hurt. Very unpleasant and making my anxiety ramp up.

The heat makes me not go out and makes me anxious, I don't like thunderstorms either they make me panic. I cannot WAIT until this is all over and it gets cooler.

SerenityNowwwww · 12/08/2020 14:20

Oh yes, it’s hoooooooooot

Does anybody else feel like crap due to the heat?
SerenityNowwwww · 12/08/2020 14:20

I have threatened to stand outside naked as soon as the storm hits. DH is scared...

Reluctantcavedweller · 12/08/2020 14:42

Bring on the rain! Seriously can't wait...

Soubriquet · 12/08/2020 14:46

Still no rain..

And the storm tracker says there isn’t one anywhere near me either

2beautifulbabs · 12/08/2020 14:52

I hate this weather don't get me wrong I love sunny days but I hate this kind of hot humid weather where you can't think properly have no energy to move don't sleep at all.
And when you have two toddlers to try and run around after it's miserable.

I always get to August and wish the summer away and can't wait for autumn months when it's cooler weather and more enjoyable.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 12/08/2020 14:55

It's smoking hot in central London but I rather this customary week or two annual heat wave than the cold windy wet dark miserable stuff starting in Autumn and through winter to Spring. Ideally slightly lower summer heat would be ideal along with real snow and cold during the festive season would be nice!

However this is UK and us Brits love nothing more than a moan about the weather hot or cold. Oh and me included by the way! Must keep cool air conditioning off as apparently mine don't have the very latest Covid safer HEPA filters? It will be (in a few weeks) time for heating soon so I will stick with current gas mark roast for now!

Are you in an office or other workplace? You wouldn’t worry about non Covid-safe filters in your own home would you?
user127819 · 12/08/2020 15:08

I'm in the South East and the promised thunderstorms haven't happened yet. Unless I've missed one. I keep hearing rumblings, even saw some lightning last night, and my knee hurts (always hurts before a summer storm), but so far, nothing. The heat is miserable...

SamsMumsCateracts · 12/08/2020 15:15

Can I please join you? I like warm weather, but this is just unpleasant. It's not so much the heat, just the close, sticky, humidity. I woke up with an awful headache, I'm tired, I'm PMSing and generally feeling gross. I can't even cool off in a cold shower because the DC are here and DS1 has ADHD and is a Velcro child who never, never stops talking. I feel like a horrible mum on days like today because I just want to be left on my own in a dark room with a cold drink and a fan aimed straight at me.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 12/08/2020 15:19

@CheetasOnFajitas

I am in my apartment right now supposedly wfh and awaiting next video conferencing meeting. But both my private residential complex and office are relatively new and so complete with comfort interior climate control for both summer cool air conditioning and heating. Many of the central London new riverside residential towers have air conditioning as standard along with other amenities like roof top oasis which are excellent if not for Covid as my veranda is now my temporary office as young child needs to stay indoors for safety reasons being high up. Air conditioning for cool air in homes are not new in the UK. You can also buy portable though bulky home cool air conditioning units.
Personally I would look for air conditioning in a residential property as summers in southern England are I think getting a touch hotter with more frequent heat waves. Lots of amazing English wine is apparently due to climate change. Yes I know this will merit a bash from the eco warriors but I am only pointing out one of the very few advantages of a very undesirable and bad climate change. I drive a new green car and fly much less now plus I don't wear disposable fast fashion! Enjoy the summer perfect for picnic and barbecue garden party etc.

Decoupage112 · 12/08/2020 15:22

Cool showers are my saving grace at the minute. Where is this rain?!

LizB62A · 12/08/2020 15:27

I think my brain is boiling.....

CheetasOnFajitas · 12/08/2020 15:32

@ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia your apt sounds lovely. But is it you who doesn’t want to turn on the aircon, or your building management?
