Does anybody else feel like crap due to the heat?

I'm a very pale person and don't bode well when it's this hot. I'm in London where we've had absolutely roasting, humid weather.

My flat becomes sauna-like and no amount of having the fan on or opening window's makes a difference.

For days I've felt completely drained, weak and nauseous.

I'm not moaning, I'm glad people take joy from the sun, I'm just wondering if anybody else finds they've been feeling very bleugh too?

Yep pale ass pussy Celt over here, melting and cursing the damn heat.
If we don't get rain soon I'm going to perform a rain dance to Let It Rain by East 17 until we do
Had enough now.

Sat here with a Bud trying to cool down.I like dry heat but not sticky.

SerenityNowwwww · 11/08/2020 17:49

I was reading a piece in the Canterbury Wizard (in NZ) and how he was (jokingly) invited to an event in an area where they were baking with the heat and hadn’t had rain for ages. They asked him to make it rain and ‘after a few hours’ of doing whatever wizards do it began to rain (when he retired to a tent and got plastered as everyone bought him whisky.

We need The Wizard...

@SerenityNowwwww

Ummm - going to work, shops, walk the dog (because I’d have one), take kids out to play, mow the lawn, have a sit in the garden, have a picnic.... usual stuff. Why would I live somewhere just to stay inside all the time! I don’t mind bad weather, quite like the rain - I can sling on boots and a raincoat and go about my day...
Yes but you wouldn’t live there then. In hot places when it’s unbearably hot you would not choose to go outside to do those fun things because it would be less pleasant than being inside. And you’d walk your dog early in the morning and drive/take an aircon bus to an aircon shop. That said, if you know is you have an aircon home to come back to, being outside in the heat is bearable in short stints.

(This is presuming you are thinking about being a person with reasonable means in a developed country. People living in poverty in hot developing countries have no choice but to get on with life and just be hot)

I’m listening to three bleating families in hotter climes right now! They are definitely not enjoying the heat. We used to have family in Florida too and that sounds hellish (engineers and architects so out on site a lot of the time).

SerenityNowwwww · 11/08/2020 17:57

Oh - I guess 2 lots didn’t ‘choose’ where they lives - one was a naval posting and the other was a business purchase (so location was pretty fixed).

bibbitybobbitycats · 11/08/2020 18:00

I don't mind the heat so much, it's the humidity that is making it unbearable here in S Wales.

Vodkacranberryplease · 11/08/2020 18:06

I have a lot of hair. It doesn't look like that much but it covers every millimetre of my head. Hairdressers go pale once they start cutting it and realise.

So I have spent the last 10days (hols) with sweat pouring down my face and neck. Back now and still sweating. Not a good look.

SerenityNowwwww · 11/08/2020 18:06

You’re like DS - so thick you can barely see his scalp. Poor lad.

Vodkacranberryplease · 11/08/2020 18:14

@SerenityNowwwww I can tell you it's no joke in this weather! My whole family is the same - a sunburnt scalp is never going to happen!

SerenityNowwwww · 11/08/2020 19:23

He was always a sweaty little bundle when he was tiny - it those huge ringlets always managed to get him freebie ice creams and bottles of fruit juice when we used to go on holiday to Italy. And cake. And waitresses singing to him..., oh and security staff at the airport giving him a litre bottle of water to take into the plane... 🙄 did he ever get his manma a piece of cake...?

Itisbetter · 11/08/2020 20:19

I always think thick hair helps. Get it wet and it will keep you cool.

SerenityNowwwww · 11/08/2020 20:44

Until it gets to winter and you take your woolly mammoth swimming!

Itisbetter · 11/08/2020 20:48

Yes. I always laugh at the “I just let it dry naturally people”...THREE days!

SerenityNowwwww · 11/08/2020 20:50

😂

Vodkacranberryplease · 11/08/2020 21:29

Oh yes let it dry naturally! Of course 😁

I had a huge thick mop of jet black hair when I was a baby. Over the years it's got lighter, now blonde 😉

HeronLanyon · 11/08/2020 21:33

This is monstrous ! Just read it may be hotter tomorrow. Like Groundhog Day - I read that last night. Will this never end ?! Going to look long and hard at this.

Does anybody else feel like crap due to the heat?
SerenityNowwwww · 11/08/2020 21:39

Apparently is ‘feels like 32’ at the moment and we are supposed to be having rain. Tomorrow is meant to be 32/37 and thunder.

SerenityNowwwww · 11/08/2020 21:41

My local forecast 😂

Bobbi73 · 11/08/2020 21:46

I went to Aldi today and it was freezing cold. I could have stayed there all day!
I work outside and I had to knock it on the head early as I started to feel a bit odd. We are just not used to it. It won't be long before its damp and drizzley again xx

blueshoes · 11/08/2020 21:48

No fun to have to WFH all day. I am pretty busy at work too.

I grew up in the tropics but dislike heat (hence in the UK).

Tips are air conditioning and stay out of the sun. But if that is not available, then quick cool showers to cool off. Keep window shades down. Keep rooms dark. Do not even let the sun into the house in the first place. Have a fan to circulate the air (note: hot countries have fixed ceiling fans but a standing fan will do). Throw water over your face and arms and neck and stand in front of the fan. Lie on a cool floor (not carpet).

ALongHardWinter · 11/08/2020 21:49

Omg yes. I have felt awful today. I don't think it's actually been any hotter than the last 3 days but I have felt worse today. My poor cat doesn't know what to do with herself and keeps whingeing at me. I can't get on and do anything because I'm running with sweat after 5 minutes of moderate exertion. I'm spending most of my time flat out on my bed in front of the fan. The forecast says that it's going to be 24 on Friday. Please let it be true!
I find it incredible that there are people out there who actually enjoy this heat. I've come to the conclusion that people must have different perceptions of heat,in the same way they do pain. One persons (mine!) 22 degrees is just right and comfortable but someone else finds that chilly.

SerenityNowwwww · 11/08/2020 21:51

I find cats quite like it if you leave the bath cold tap doing a fast drip - they will happily sit there all day!

copperoliver · 11/08/2020 21:52

Yes and so tired cannot sleep. X

SerenityNowwwww · 11/08/2020 22:06

It’s like a sauna in our bedroom. Much hotter that previous nights.
