Does anybody else feel like crap due to the heat?

I'm a very pale person and don't bode well when it's this hot. I'm in London where we've had absolutely roasting, humid weather.

My flat becomes sauna-like and no amount of having the fan on or opening window's makes a difference.

For days I've felt completely drained, weak and nauseous.

I'm not moaning, I'm glad people take joy from the sun, I'm just wondering if anybody else finds they've been feeling very bleugh too?

I'm East Mids, no thunder/lightning/rain yet. Wish the heat would break.

Willowmartha1 · 12/08/2020 23:36

Storm seems to have bypassed us, I'm so sick of waking up with a thumping headache each morning and seeing my dd's little hot, wet cherry tomato face where she is boiling too ! I'd go as far as to say this heat depresses me is that wrong ??!

YgritteSnow · 12/08/2020 23:52

It's cooling here - London. Not by much but the air has not got the steady increasing hot intensity it has had all this week. I don't need to be next to the fan every moment though prefer it and don't start sweating the moment I stand up. It's been up to 36 here all week - going down to 28 tomorrow. Thank goodness, I am so done with it!

YgritteSnow · 12/08/2020 23:53

No. A few of us said earlier in the thread it's actually increasing our anxiety to the point of panic attacks.

TweetUsOnFacebook · 13/08/2020 08:26

No storms for us and not much rain overnight. It's a relief to feel a bit cooler today. It's cloudy for now but it'll be about 28 later when the cloud clears.

The house is still boiling though. There is quite a decent breeze so I've got all windows and doors open to try and get the house a bit cooler.

Tomorrow looks wonderful. 24 and maybe some rain!

SerenityNowwwww · 13/08/2020 09:43

Hottest night so far I think. I feel like one of those chubby wee hamsters you see when they sit down and flump down into a puddle of fur.

On the upside - we saw DSs predicted gcse grades and they were not too bad at all (relief). And it says it’s going to rain today!!!!! This is all down to me (you may thank me) because I snapped and ordered a fan last night.

TweetUsOnFacebook · 13/08/2020 10:36

I feel like a hippo SerenityNowwwww. Terrible bloating and swollen feet Sad

I was looking at air conditioners last night, although this heatwave is dying out (yay!) I thought I'd look for next year. They're either cheap and crap or very expensive and a bit less crap! It's the reviews that say they're noisy that puts me off.

We've been looking at other ways to cool the house but apart from making the walls a foot thick, the windows smaller (we have massive windows!) raising the ceilings and tiling all floors there's not a lot we can do. We are definitely thinking about ditching carpets apart from bedrooms as they're manky anyway.

Moving to a cave would be good. Or Scotland. Dh dreams of retiring to Spain ... he can fuck right off on his own! Wink

SerenityNowwwww · 13/08/2020 10:39

DH keeps saying ‘I want to live somewhere hot!’. I point out that he is suited to stinking hot weather - whereas I am suited to cold rain. I don’t think there is a compromise. Reminds me of the proverb ‘a bird may fall in love with a fish but where would they live?’

BooseysMom · 13/08/2020 10:59

@SerenityNowwwww.. yes that's a very true saying. I'm the same as you, suited to cool rain. I don't know how anyone would want to live with heat like this! I would like to live in a Scandinavian country.

SerenityNowwwww · 13/08/2020 11:00

Maybe it would be too cold! I was speaking to someone who spent some time in Siberia - minus 40!!!!!!!

Sierramike · 13/08/2020 11:27

It's cooler today. I find the heat affects my stomach and skin.

YgritteSnow · 13/08/2020 11:44

All windows open and a lovely breeze blowing through the entire house. Fans not needed! I genuinely feel so much better. Have booked my car in for MOT and made a list of admin tasks that I have let slide all this week as I felt so ill. Kids have agreed to do holiday school work later. I'm going to buy an air con unit for next year. I honestly can't deal with this again.

Lottapianos · 13/08/2020 12:54

Its divine in East London today- warm sun with intermittent cloud and a lovely cool breeze. I have about 1000 times more energy than I have had all week

SerenityNowwwww · 13/08/2020 12:56

Still too chuffing hot in west London. Argggggggg.

TweetUsOnFacebook · 13/08/2020 13:08

It's a bit warm and muggy this afternoon and my back is sweaty and I'm getting the odd trickle in between my boobs BUT it's a hell of a lot better than yesterday so I'm trying not to complain Halo

I can't wait to get a better sleep tonight.

threesecrets · 13/08/2020 13:09

I'm the same. What saved me was buying and air con unit (about £250)

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 13/08/2020 13:27

I hate the heat. I have craniofacial hyperhidrosis so my hair has looked like I've just stepped out of a puddle since the weekend, it's awful. I've got the carry around microfibre square of towel to mop up the sweat. DP has said he's never seen it has bad, his words were 'it looks like there's a waterfall down the back of your neck' while we we're walking the dog on Tuesday evening. Luckily it's cooled off a bit here today and there is MUCH needed rain. I can feel a cool(er) breeze coming in. I hope you all get some relief soon

Decoupage112 · 13/08/2020 14:21

South London here, feeling much better than the past few days but still a bit nauseous. It's cooler outside than inside at the minute, I've vowed to buy air con ready for next year.

I've managed to get out and see my osteopath today, we're all going to the park shortly so hopefully the storm (if it's even coming) holds out until we get back.

Defenbaker · 13/08/2020 15:03

We had an air con unit which was quite powerful, but we donated it to charity last year as it was very noisy. It was impossible to hear the TV if it was in the living room, impossible to sleep if it was in a bedroom, and couldn't go in the hall as there was no window to pass the hose through. If only they could invent a silent air con unit. The built in ones are slightly quieter, but cost serious money to install.

I hope these tropical nights don't become a regular feature in England, I've really struggled this week. Also, the insects have driven me mad. I've managed to covered a couple of small windows with mosquito/weighted nets, but need to sort something out for the larger windows and patio doors. Trying to air the place without being eaten alive by mosquitoes is a challenge. We've had some rain this afternoon, and there is a slight breeze, with temp currently 21C, which feels much better.

threesecrets · 13/08/2020 16:31

I didn't mind the sound of the ac in the bedroom as I quite like white noise and sleep better with it. It is so effective! Just no idea where to store it in the winter

SerenityNowwwww · 13/08/2020 19:11

I’ve been promised thunder and rain all bloody day but we’ve had a tiny trickle of rain (which I missed when I was emptying the dishwasher). It’s stringing me along!

I’m too tired to cook tonight to. They can forage for themselves...

The80sweregreat · 14/08/2020 09:11

Nick Ferrari on lbc yesterday was talking about his air conditioning unit and how fab it was , but nothing about the noise it no doubt must make! You need it near a window too for the pipe to ventilate as well , so i couldn't have one in any of my bedrooms as they are all quite small! I am guessing a proper system plumbed in would be a lot of money and loads to run as well and still be noisy too I suppose?
( If I win the lottery this week a house with air con already done would be top of the list and maybe some decent ear plugs! )
It would be heaven , especially as the summers are going to get hotter each year :(

Mimilamore · 14/08/2020 09:31

Total lack of energy, actually vomited, low mood.... love sunshine and warm breezes but the humidity just no
AND all the bins stink everywhere....

TweetUsOnFacebook · 14/08/2020 09:56

It was a horrible humid night. I was awake 2am-4am feeling ill.

It's much better this morning. The house feels like it's nearly lost the residual heat now and there's a cooling breeze flowing through. If I was going out today I would totally take a cardie Grin

I really hope this is the last of the heatwaves although Sept/Oct usually throws us some horrible heat at some point Angry

Deathraystare · 14/08/2020 13:44

A few days ago i could not even get a bra on! I had to go out to the GP so just put a maxi dress on but as the norks are rather large I felt very self conscious and reminded my self not to walk too fast!!!
