Does anybody else feel like crap due to the heat?

I'm a very pale person and don't bode well when it's this hot. I'm in London where we've had absolutely roasting, humid weather.

My flat becomes sauna-like and no amount of having the fan on or opening window's makes a difference.

For days I've felt completely drained, weak and nauseous.

I'm not moaning, I'm glad people take joy from the sun, I'm just wondering if anybody else finds they've been feeling very bleugh too?
@ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia your apt sounds lovely. But is it you who doesn’t want to turn on the aircon, or your building management?
We are "having issues" with property management and concierge. Long story and complex. But all resident owners are not happy with Covid mitigation measures imposed. We also have many absent overseas owners as a typical buy to leave "investment" grade residential complexes. Basically to any potential investors and owner occupiers do extra due diligence on property management (as well as performance of facilities) as although on site uniformed staff are suited and booted as if in a luxury hotel lobby - they are essentially just super expensive and no value and not much more than 352 24 7 security and post box for logistical management of large delivery items. The air conditioning and Covid research is coming out of hot overseas nations as potential source and vector for Covid air recirculation and so without new high tech HEPA filters retrofit we are keeping things switched off despite the current heat in our own individual dwellings bout obviously interior common parts and lifts etc are still air conditioned.

We’ve had rumbling thunder and a few flashes of lightning. No rain. It’s toying with me...

CheetasOnFajitas · 12/08/2020 16:41

Thanks @ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia. If your brand spanking new block doesn’t have the right filters I am thinking that the majority of commercial/office premises won’t either. What a nightmare.

rainatnightlove · 12/08/2020 16:54

It's still baking here (south east) supposed to start cooling off this evening but still forecast 25 tomorrow! I feel horrendous, nauseas, headache, no energy.

news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2020/06/air-conditioning-may-be-factor-in-covid-19-spread-in-the-south/

There is increasing research and evidence analysing Covid and air conditioning. I am not a virologist nor building engineer but if I am unsure I rather be precautionary and so suffer the inconvenience rather than risk it! In many recently built (and buildings under construction) there are inevitably a lot of untoward over promise and under delivery or as some of my neighbours would say usual expected cheating and cover ups cutting corners etc. So unless there is an issue like Covid or enhanced building material fire testing etc and you are not an expert or indeed have access to the working bits within buildings you will never know as to absolute safety.

Covid and air conditioning in buildings and air transportation etc will be a big potential Covid risk issue!

Please don’t make me go into my kitchen. Our water pipes run under the floor so whilst it’s lovely in winter, the floor is like bloody hot irons when I’m cooking.

TheSunIsStillShining · 12/08/2020 17:37

I am more on the creole side of white (according to husband: gypsy), and grew up in an arab country.
BUT: we always had some form of air movement... even if the wind was hot, it was moving. And the humidity levels were never close to this.
So yes, I am roasting, feeling grrrr... and in general can't sleep, don't have an appetite ...
On the bright side: I've lost 2 kilos in only a few days.
I know it's mostly water and it'll come back, but until then I'm going to enjoy it :)

SerenityNowwwww · 12/08/2020 17:38

Did you sleep on the roof on summer?

TheSunIsStillShining · 12/08/2020 17:51

@SerenityNowwwww

Did you sleep on the roof on summer?
If this was for me: yes. from april to nov :)
Strawberrycreamsundae · 12/08/2020 18:02

I’m literally just about surviving, I have severe heart failure and get breathless easily, in this weather it’s greatly exacerbated.
I used to love the sun and heat but now it dread it!

mogloveseggs · 12/08/2020 18:05

Anything over 19 and I wilt.
Working for the last two days has been awful, praying it cools down tomorrow

SerenityNowwwww · 12/08/2020 18:36

Yes sun - I have family out that way and love stories of them sleeping on the large roof terrace watching the stars...

BinkyBoinky · 12/08/2020 18:54

I've had a horrible migraine all yesterday and today. Had to take today off because I feel so ill. I've had not much sleep and feel like a sledgehammer is hitting my head. Been trying to drink water but it's making me queasy and my usual migraine tablets aren't working.

PLEASE RAIN TONIGHT!!!

SerenityNowwwww · 12/08/2020 18:56

Do you think the heat can cause dizziness and palpitations? Does that sound like blood pressure problems?

TweetUsOnFacebook · 12/08/2020 19:13

I'm coming here for a good old moan because most of my friends seem to think we shouldn't complain about 'nice' weather. It's like one big endurance test. There's nothing nice about it at all.

We are in the South East here. It's been pushing 35 most days since last Friday but it feels hotter. We've all had enough now. We're supposedly getting some rain tomorrow and slightly lower temps but I'll believe it when it see it.

Everything in the house is hot. The bread went clammy and gross in 2 days. I opened a packet of digestives earlier and they were warm and limp Sad. We've shoved as much as we can in the fridge. The freezer is full of bottles of ice to get us through the night.

Even basic things like doing the washing up or hanging out the washing feels like hard work. The house is filthy and there are dead insects in all the window sills Sad

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 12/08/2020 20:37

@SerenityNowwwww

I have threatened to stand outside naked as soon as the storm hits. DH is scared...
Just had a fabulous shower in mid Wales, stood outside but not naked, would scare the neighbours Grin dying off now but still feel better than I have in days, I’ll try sending it your way...

Same!

Same again! Thank you for this post. I feel like an utter slob this week. The housework just isn't getting done due to this weather.

We lived in a flat roofed house and had proper second set of beds on the roof. Only problem was when the military helos came and the guys had a field day staring at my very blond/white skinned mum :D She wasn't amused....
SillyUnMurphy · 12/08/2020 20:48

I’m just outside London and I felt really unwell this morning too. I had a pounding headache, stomachache and backache. I had to take my mum to the supermarket and juggle my 6 and 8 year old - my temper was on a knife edge. I’ve noticed DH is really grumpy too as he is stuck in the sweltering spare bedroom working most of the day.

When the weather is like this I seem to exist in a permanent state of exhaustion. I actually look forward to going to work because it is fully air conditioned but obviously I’m WFH at the moment so I feel like there is no respite; as you say, the fan doesn’t cut it.

Our house is currently 30C and I’m dreading going to bed. I’ve been draping myself in a damp towel in bed and putting the ceiling fan on. It does make it a bit more bearable to sleep.

BooseysMom · 12/08/2020 21:26

Unbearable heat. 🥵 30.5 upstairs. Just before the sky turned yellow and the wind got strong and there was a bit of thunder and lightning then it rained but not much and the temp is now 29.

Reluctantcavedweller · 12/08/2020 21:33

Where is the rain?

Tinsellball · 12/08/2020 21:39

It's lovely and cool here now, just went for an evening stroll.

Next step is to wash away today's sticky hair.

PhoneLock · 12/08/2020 21:41

We've had rain. DH wasn't happy as he was doing stuff outside.

shinynewapple2020 · 12/08/2020 21:48

We had rain and thunder last night but it was still as hot again today . Raining now but still not in the house. Am sitting on my bed with my feet up as my ankles and feet have swollen up .

IndieTara · 12/08/2020 22:00

I'm Midlands, we had the storm and rain a couple of hrs ago. But it's still 26 degrees now and forecast hotter tomorrow. I lived and worked in Egypt but it wasn't humid so much easier to cope with.
