Does anybody else feel like crap due to the heat?

I'm a very pale person and don't bode well when it's this hot. I'm in London where we've had absolutely roasting, humid weather.

My flat becomes sauna-like and no amount of having the fan on or opening window's makes a difference.

For days I've felt completely drained, weak and nauseous.

I'm not moaning, I'm glad people take joy from the sun, I'm just wondering if anybody else finds they've been feeling very bleugh too?

I live in London and when the temperature is like this it is truly vile! I'm just glad I don't have to contend with commuting on the central line now too, as I'm WFH due to covid. In previous summers I have literally had sweat dripping off me on there.

I'm lucky in that my flat seems to stay reasonable cool. But generally this weather makes me irritable, grumpy and sweaty.

The80sweregreat · 10/08/2020 16:59

Yep, dodgy stomach and feel really hot and uncomfortable!
Hate this heat

SerenityNowwwww · 10/08/2020 17:42

I don’t feel like eating - too hot. I wake up stiff and feeling like a big blob. My face is red and greasy, my fingers like sausages. My hands constantly feel grimy. I have to change a few times a day as I am sweating like a pig. I’m grumpy and look forward to cooler evenings.

Minai · 10/08/2020 18:57

🙋🏼‍♀️ Fellow pasty person here and find the heat hard to bear. My 1 and 3 year olds seem to be of a similar disposition to me and we are all fed up and grumpy here. In South London and it’s going to be in the mid thirties till Thursday by the looks of it. Argh!!

Boopeedoop · 10/08/2020 19:41

I'm really struggling.

Domiciliary carer, loads of PPE, Crohn's disease, diabetes and fibromyalgia.

I am not ok!

Plus my idiot husband keeps opening the back doors at home. We get full sun at the back, and we have thermal glass designed to keep the heat out!

SerenityNowwwww · 10/08/2020 21:35

Melting into a blob watching crap action film on tv. The question is - do I have my ovaltine it is that just crazy?

Wishihadanalgorithm · 10/08/2020 21:57

I have found my tribe!

Running cold water over wrists helps to cool you down that is the only suggestion I have other than emigrating to Antarctica.

As I was cooking dinner tonight it went really humid and the air felt so heavy and pressured. There was lots of rumbling of thunder but no rain. I was so fed up. I really think a storm would help to clear up the air.

I am just relieved I haven’t come out in a prickly heat rash like I often do.

Roll on autumn!

MrsT1405 · 10/08/2020 22:41

Come on , its just warm. A lot of the world is a LOT hotter than this all the time. We live ne Spain and 35 degrees is pretty normal. We're quite a long way north of the equator. We have air con , you have heating . Maybe you need to change .

SerenityNowwwww · 10/08/2020 22:49

It’s all relative though isn’t it? How cold does it get in NE Spain - Jesus I remember the -17 winter temperature!

People aren’t going to get aircon installed for the few weeks it gets very hot - and it’s a nasty sticky heat.

chloxhunt · 10/08/2020 22:49

@MrsT1405 England warm is different too any other counties type of warm

The80sweregreat · 11/08/2020 06:54

You can cool off on holiday in pools and rooms have air con etc or make yourself warm in winter but you can't make yourself cold!
When will this weather break in the U K?
Soon I hope!

Tinsellball · 11/08/2020 07:08

I think it's going to be hot again today.

Just makes me feel tired and sticky.

I have chilled water in the fridge and plenty of ice.

Ginfordinner · 11/08/2020 07:10

I've kept the fridge stocked with bottled water and replace whenever I finish one.

Are they filled with tap water?

Imissmoominmama · 11/08/2020 07:13

I felt really sick when I got home from work yesterday. I’d been soaking wet with sweat all day (I work alone, but it’s physical and in small spaces).

I lay with an ice block, wrapped in a tea towel, on my neck, and I drank a dioralyte. Felt better after that, but still not 100%. I’m itchy with a heat rash and still feeling a bit crap this morning.

QuestionableMouse · 11/08/2020 07:34

@Ginfordinner

What's wrong with tap water?

Swelteringmeltering · 11/08/2020 07:35

Really struggling now, will have to invest in air con unit.

HeronLanyon · 11/08/2020 07:38

Where I am - London - the forecast shows hotter than yesterday !
Support all.

lifeafter50 · 11/08/2020 07:40

I am feeling terrible also at the moment. Am an outdoor person and it is just too hot to be outdoors so my house is actually cooler but I am surrounded by all the things I haven't done (tidying cleaning de cluttering as am rarely in the house.
I normally spend a lot of time by the river but it is full of screaming teenagers being so dangerous (to themselves - eg jumping off high bridges into shallow water full of rusty submerged debris - that I am staying away. Looking forward to the thunderstorms that are supposed to arrive- although they recede every day -so hope they don't miss us!

silentpool · 11/08/2020 07:42

I'm in London and my flat is like a sauna. I am just sweltering and the fan is not really helping. I just hope the weather breaks soon as this will not be a productive week.

Ginfordinner · 11/08/2020 07:42

What's wrong with tap water?

Absolutely nothing @QuestionableMouse. I was wondering if the OP was adding to the plastic bottle mountain or refilling the bottles she already has with tap water.

In hot weather we just put bottles of tap water in the fridge, we don't buy bottled water.

Swelteringmeltering · 11/08/2020 07:45

Bully for you, gin 😏.
I don't like the taste of tap water.

Op, 38 in London tomorrow!!

Oldraver · 11/08/2020 07:46

Our bedroom is like a sauna as well, it is in the loft space wasn't originally insulated enough so more was out in. It's like the bedroom has a giant duvet round it and a puddle little window

We lay on the bed roasting, I'm not one for being uncovered but couldn't stand the sheet on me

atvh · 11/08/2020 07:53

I’m with you OP! Thankfully it looks like today is the last full day of the 30-plus heat. Thunderstorms are predicted in London from tomorrow evening - hurrah!

Ginfordinner · 11/08/2020 07:54

I don't like the taste of tap water.

There is no need to be so defensive Swelteringmeltering. The plastic bottle mountain is an environmental disaster.

If the water is heavily chlorinated you can put some in a jug in the fridge. After a while the chlorine dissipates. I used to live in London and remember how heavily chlorinated the water tastes.

Swelteringmeltering · 11/08/2020 08:10

Gin, I just generally find the assumption odd that everyone should like the taste of tap water.

I really don't, and I don't like volvic water either. I totally agree re plastic and wish they used different receptacles.
But I don't like the taste of tap water.
